Henry, nice getting to meet ya and talk for a few minutes. It was my first year as well and like the others I thougth it could have been better set up. There were way to many cars in the show area both days that had no business being there. I'm not even talking about the muscle cars Sunday, just people's personal cars. I had a really great time and I'll be back next year. Maybe next year more of the "wanabe" crowd will actually have cars to drive to the show and can leave their Toyotas, Mitsubishis and Mercedes at home.
Hey 50 I loved your Ford, and I really enjoyed talking to you. Good luck with your plans. Hope to see you again at the Moonshine Festival in late Oct. I'll be driving my Coupe to that one. Did I mention I love Georgia? 'specially them twisty back roads for the cars and that beautiful red clay for the dirtbikes.
Here are some more pictures of the show. They were taken early Saturday and early Sunday. I wansn't in picture taken mode by the afternoon either day. http://s134.photobucket.com/albums/q86/50fordtudor/Dixie%20Fried/?action=view¤t=DSCF0043.jpg
Will do, the rest of the Poor Boys missed you - Rooster was in rare form!!! We had a blast, sorry we didn't meet more of you guys. We got there later Saturday afternoon because one of our guys had mechanical problems, but we all made it. The bagged 46 Ford was mine a couple of years ago, I was happy to see it still looks exactly the same. We'll be there again next year for sure.
Just wanted to say thanks to all that made it to the show. I'm sure T-bone and Zaemo will chime in with some official numbers but it was the largest turn out we've had. We also managed to raise a decent Donation for Operation Sand Box. Check out http://theroadkings.com/ for more info and i think some pics of that plymouth will be there soon. Henry Floored, and 50 Ford sorry I didn't get to meet either of you but thanks for comming out Hotrodlady come on down but if it's not to much trouble bring some cookies please. In defense of the Road Kings this was the first year the show was held in the upper parking area, come back next year and tell us if we've improved. Also we want to thank people that drove several hundred miles to attend and they should know that they won't be turned away because we have different taste in wheels. The guy who trailers his car will be. The Road Kings taste in cars can be seen in the Cars that Win Awards on Saturday. We host the Car show on both days but the show on Sunday was expanded at the request of the Drive Inn, so if your Yenko anything wins best muscle car it's because it's probably a bad ass car that we liked. It's not based on any points system. Sorry to any trophy hounds that's just the way it is. Once again thanks to all that came out, and remember there is only 363 days until next years event so get to wrenchin' Troy
Great pictures, I really enjoyed this year, because grumpy ed's made it!! Good to see everyone one again, wish we could have meet everyone. Hope to see a few at the moonshine festival.
missed it for the first time in 4 years..... no replys from the sock gentelmen? wasn't there a 'sock display'? what about the sheep? goats? pigs? has everyone gone soft?
Thanks for the pics and coverage. I keep saying that I'm gonna make it over to the show, but something else always gets priority. I should have the new frame under the car by then(Won't start that project until winter). So, if Denise and Sparky can put it on their calender I'll get over there next year in the 46 or secret project G.
I go to alot of shows and this is the most entertaining. Bands were great, people were friendly. Everybody was doing what made them happy! Wish I had stayed for the movies. Jalepeno corndogs, doesn't get any better than than that.
O.K., I'll chime in and also say that there was way too much "non-show" type traffic driving through and around the "show" car area, but that can be worked on as the show adjusts to the new area. But really, the black primered 4 door Taurus with the red wheels was just over the top.... OTOH, there were a lot of really cool cars at this show, and there is nothing else like this in the southeast that I've heard of. Thanks to the Road Kings for putting this on, and for offering more larger shirt sizes (print them, and they will be bought). The improved and much cleaner restroom facilities were also a plus this year ( I manage a 7,000 seat arena facility, so I look at stuff like this) as were the variety of drink and food vendors. The bands could be heard easily all over the show area. The effort to allow club members to park together seemed to work well, as I noticed at least 3 or 4 clubs doing this. Thanks to the "Socks" for letting me hang out with you guys and for feeding me grilled brats - you guys are great company. Thanks for a great show! Kinky6
Well, me and my sidekick(my 5 year old daughter) tried to make the trip but the rain, with the balloon tires, and the burning of her eyes from the exhaust fumes made us turn around and head back to the homestead. She was really pissed so I had to take her to the local MUSTANG show instead. That wasn't the same thing but she still got to see some cars and got off my ass. You could have stepped on her lip when I told her we had to go back home. Sorry I didn't make the show but the floor pans still are not sealed up from when I slung it together for MOKAN. Josh get me an address and I'll send you the shirt.
My son and I had a great time visiting the show on Saturday. Music was good, folks real friendly, and lots of interesting rides to look at. We thought that the forecast weather might be a problem, but it turned out great. We had driven up from Orlando on a road trip to visit family and friends so we were in my Miata. Felt a little out of place, but we parked in an inconspicuous area and tried not to intrude on the cars that really should be there. My son is already planning a road trip for next year with all his friends, but next time we'll bring the Deuce and the Locost.

Did BigA get to make his last smokey run in the Shoebox? I don't see any burnout pictures either, what's up with that.
Well put Troy. The out of place rides provided entertainment too . It was definately THE BEST D.F. I've been to, the upper lots are way better. This was the first year I camped out, it was worth every minute of it . Jeff, we were pretty low-key this year, just cryin' in our beers missing you and Erin Where are all the PG13 pics? Tyler...Andrew and the moredoor made it. We missed ya. There were no "sanctioned" burnouts this year, but we had a blast anyway.
Hey Guys, Thanks for coming out this year. We want to thank you all for your support in coming out. did indeed experience some growing pains with the new lot and new layout. I personally made a point to talk to participants about the new area, and the show in general. I think the fact that we tried to accommodate clubs with some "reserved parking" was much appreciated, as well as the flatter parking area and the breeze! Some people were frustrated with the line in the morning and that's something we'll address with the Drive-In for next year. Please remember that we are only one part of the Drive-Invasion. We don't control the gates, bands or civilian cars. Now I'll address the squeakiest wheel on this thread, DeepSouthRick. We were told we would have that entire upper lot but that we needed to be flexible on the day of show. It wasn't more annoying to anyone else but me, that some people (who seemed to be with show cars) parked their civilian vehicles too close. As registration closed at 2 PM on Saturday, we had 100% compliant year model cars parked up. By this time, the other lot had filled and parking overall became too congested, therefore spilling into any parking space available. I (we) were not in charge of parking for the entire event, and some people who were there for music and movies needed to park somewhere. I certainly wasn't going to spend my whole weekend looking for the owner of a black Kia to tell them to move further from your car. Now that we have a better idea of how much room we would like, we will "close off" the back area to curb this problem. Can't promise other spectators won't drive their regular cars through our cones and tape and into the show area like a lost whale upstream, that goes with the territory. Oh Yeah, we never registered and parked a flat black Taurus with red wheels, and can't control who drives what to the Drive-Invasion. As far as a '55 Chevy ruining the weekend for you, I can't apologize. Maybe you should stick to the uptight shows on the West Coast. Be careful though, I hear they measure jean cuffs and check that you use the correct pomade in your pompadour. We bill the car show the way we do in order to ward off the onslaught of high dollar rides (and there are thousands) in North Georgia, and it's pretty effective. I personally don't feel the need to ruin one hot rodders weekend to make you feel special. 98% of the registered cars know what this show is about. The other 2% learn it. Sunday was a compromise with the organizers of the Drive-Invasion to include '74 and older. The Drive-In must consider ticket sales. Typically, Sunday is way more chill and relaxed. Just park 'em up and enjoy the day. This was evident by the light hearted "awards" on Sunday. I personally took the reigns on the parking this year(first year as a member of The Road Kings) and have made a lot of notes on how to improve the Dixie Fried part of the weekend for next year. If you couldn't have a good time this last weekend, DeepSouthRick, perhaps your "hopes" were too high. If anyone else has any suggestions to improve the experience, please PM me or e-mail the Road Kings. We couldn't be everywhere at all times, and may not have seen some problems that could be fixed. Otherwise we had a great time, and the car owners couldn't have been cooler and happy to be there. Chad
Thanks alot to the Road Kings. Putting on a show this large isn't as easy as it looks. I much rather prefer having the show up top. the show seemed to be well attended this year. I was glad to see all the other clubs show up. That was real cool. Our section we had was like the trailer park of dixie fried. Nothing beats waking up sunday morning to the sound of a harley being ridden around at 7 am, and all the beer can tumbleweeds rolling around. as far as the burnouts go, the rule sucked. i wished i couldh've had my 59 down there but that will happen soon. Thanks again to the Road Kings for all their work on putting on the show. Robby C.S.A. Road Devils
We had a great time this weekend! A Big Thanks to the Road Kings for putting on and their work on the show. Thanks to all the folks we got to meet and talk to. Will be back next year for sure.
We had a good time. Thanks Road Kings. ...p.s. Does anyone know the owner of this immaculate burgundy roadster? This thing was gorgeous!
Here are some of my pics with a link to the rest: A sheeet load more pics here http://s216.photobucket.com/albums/cc270/55DodgePu/Dixie Fried/
i was at d.f. in my sedan. i had a great time as usual, the road kings did a great job as usual, and the selection of cars was the best anywhere. it was good seeing all my old buddies and making new ones. all this griping about d.f. makes some of you guys seem like guys that go to regular car shows. see ya next year, dan
