Here is what I shot yesterday @ Famoso. It was warm, but not hot. Bakersfield has dry heat anyway. Right? ENJOY here is the link: http://www.flickr.com/photos/smokindave/sets/72157600470992619/
Thanks for the pics. Could not make it. ..... Get to see what I missed .My buddy said there was lots of cars.
Great pics. I can never understand why they build their cages that way, all square and new style. If it's a nostalgia car, why not make it look as original as physically possible?
I don't mean they should run a 3 point cage, but they could make it look a whole lot better by using a cage with a continuous radius, and put some angle in the front hoop. That would make them look a thousand times better. Plus, I understand that they want to see over the motors, but the chassis are way too tall out back. I'm stoked to see front engine cars in any form (there was one out at our track last night that was back halved and ugly, but it was still cool to watch it run), I'd just like to see a little more effort in making them look better.
Take a look at this car. It's a legal top fuel car (it certify's to top fuel), and look how close to original it is. The cage is new and legal, but totally bitchin lookin. And look how low it is in the rear
I was just guessing. Most the nostalgia stuff is so unimpressive(modernized), i don't pay too close attention. At the reunion/march meets in Bakersfield, i enjoy seeing the old cars on display more than in motion for much the same reasons you mentioned. The display/museum stuff's more "true" to their memory (or mine?). Besides, every other pass one of those heaps blows up, oils the track, and it's 45 minutes of cleanup. PS-great lookin car
The Sterling built cars are the ones that look like a lawn chair. The Tuttle cars look just right. my2¢
I hear yah man, I don't understand why they build 'em that way. I'd rather see an old car sit than a new one run.
Everything for ATF is still for sale, the last official offer for both rails was 90,000 last week. We turned it down...ya never know....
I'll tell you what Rooman, both those cars have much better lookin cages then most of the nostalgia cars, and the tuttle car sits good in the back (not all tall). And Tim, I have the perfect solution to your problem. Send both cars to me in NY. I'll run them like they are meant to be run, hard as hell. That way you can free up some space in your shop. (I had to try, you did say ya never know!)
now that this thread that got back up to the top...is anyone heading to the fuel altered classic this saturday?
Tim, your cars sit low about like a Uyehara chassis. Or a Patty Foster creation. What;s the skinny? Dave, I'm gonna try like hell to make it. There might be a really "Special" treat running there.
smokingdave, Wow, lots of cool pictures, thanks for posting them. Going back for a second look at the pictures. Cruiser
I don't think I've ever seen an Airflow run. Is that metal or glass? Nice shots. I like that little Opel.
Okay Independant, you send me 75 grand for each car and you can run 'em as hard as you want! (Love ya Bro') Meanwhile, I'll take good care of 'em. These 2 chassis' were built by Pete Ogden (he built Pure Hell, among others) using the 2000 NHRA top fuel rulebook and the Miliani-Gotelli #19 car from 1965 as a model. Pete built Miliani's car in '64, and finished mine in 2000. Hoops are designed to fit inside a swept back 'chute tail. They're 165", motors out 28", @6 degrees of dump. Direct drive, Titan pedal clutches....they were built to be unlimited, NHRA legal tire smokers. We call 'em "Super '65s". Thanks for the interest, if you want to know more about them go to my website http://www.condercustom.com and click on "armageddon top fuel" -Fuelers forever
That's definitely fair, but I think I may have come up with a better scenario. I'll take one car (with a trailer, tow vehicle, etc), come out to Cali, and I'll sweep your shop floor to pay off the 75 grand. Unfortunately, I'll need a place to stay while I work it off, and I'll also need some food and shit. So if you can put me up in your crib with a bed and all access to your fridge, I think we have a deal. I'll have my lawyer draw up the paperwork, I'm gonna need you to send me a plane ticket (both ways, I figure in order to pay off the 75 g's I'll need to work for you for about a month (I am the shit when it comes to a broom, I am to sweeping what Jesse James is to welding), I'll also need the car, tow vehicle and trailer transported back to NY. If you can arrange for that, I'll gladly give you (or something like that) your asking price. So, do we have a deal homie?
