I have been collecting parts for the last 11 years to build a post war 29 on deuce rails. I am pretty much cloning Bruce Donelans car, which is a clone of Jack's car, which is a loose clone of his dad's car! I have most of the parts, and pretty much know the direction to take, but would love to have additional details on these two cars. Thanks!!! Brian
The Jack Underwood car is my FAVORITE roadster......ever! There was a feature on the Underwood car in CKD a few years ago.....I have the issue somewhere....I *think* it's the issue with the Woodie wagon and Sabina on the cover..... When I get around to building my 'perfect' roadster, it'll be based off these same cars.... Do you have wheels???? What details in particular do you need????
you certainly picked good ones to model your car after Sellers makes the best hallock repro windsheild I'd say my car "was" heading that direction....and will probably still get a hallock but i'm not cloning anything any pictures of what you've got so far good luck Zach
I have a Rob Miller Hallock and it fits the cowl nice! i do need to machine the grove in it... I have the twin beach seats... I am running skinny 40 ford wheels Like Donelans car in the Street Rodder feature, but would love to get a set of big accessory wheels... There was a similar Car in the Strokers Club during the late 40's the gentlemans name escapes me but I can look it up. I am an East Coast guy, and you do not see Hallock! Butch Seaholm in the Pacific Northwest gave me some good hints on mounting the windshield, so thanx again Butch!
Bruce's car always runs the 18" Divco's. Except the one weekend we went to the GG show. Go figure, got in SR mag and P.vincent calender from that weekend. Bruce was on here as F-head,but no computer on the dairy farm now. See the little pic by my name? Who's doing burnouts in the dirt in Bruce's car !? PM me,I was there when the car was built.. So was Just Dug..
Thanks! Just the info I was looking for. I don't plan on straying too far from Bruces Car. So would really appreciate the details... hope to have the metal work done on the body soon, then the chassis next summer. I'll post some pix soon. There was a farm near me that had a field full of divcos... I went there one day and they were all scrapped, ugh!
"divco" wheels didn't actually come on Divco's. You need to look for Ford truck accessory wheels....and good luck finding them.
I believe Divco Wheels andFord Accessory wheels are two different things. The Divcos were a "cheap alternative" a few years ago, but that's change too...
Thanks! I will down load some pix of myu car soon, honestly it is just a somewhat restored boddy with a Hallock at the moment. Though i did blow the body apart and restore it from the ground up 9as the subrails were shot). It is very motivating to sit in it with the Hallock and Twin Beacgh seats,That road shot must have been a blast!
Dale Seaholm, is now Butch Seaholm ? He must have put Eddie down for a dirt napp. Butch must be the new Arizona alter-ego ! ha ha ha !
Thanks Rob! How did he come up with Butch. That's funny! Must be due to my new flattop haircut that I'm sporting. Anyways, Here's my pile with the Rob Miller windshield. Hello to all my Northwest friends! Tucson is treating me great.
I guess you can add Tony and Joseph Scro now. Who??? I'm in the middle of writing a feature on this roadster for the next Street Machine Hot Rod Annual and in talking to the owners, they mentioned that the inspiration for the car was Bruce Donelan's roadster that was featured in Street Rodder, Feb '02. As is usually the case, I spend way too much time doing 'research' when I hear this little tidbits of information, and invariably (if it's do with a trad-style rod) I end up here on the HAMB. Gotta love this place. Anyways. Apologies for dragging up a three year old thread, but I think these pics (and the car) are well worth it. Yes, the steering wheel is on the 'wrong' side because the car is in Sydney, Australia. When I started on mine, I was thinking of the Courtney roadsters, but soon saw other examples in the Montgomery books, and saw Jack Underwood's car at the Outriders picnic also, I asked him about his Hallock and he said something to the effect of "Kid, you're never going to get one of these, forget about it-" A few months later I had one of Rob Miller's castings and was off and running- Mike Parti milled the groove in it for me. I wanted my cowl to roll back into a '40 dash, so I shaped that with a lip to go underneath and fit flush.
