The 57 will be ready in the spring. After 11 years of service it needs a LOT of work, not to mention strengthening everything to hold the SCJ motor. I may not catch yours, but I'll be on the street, too. I really dig the the early AMC's more now that I've spent some time on a couple, but still can't shake the feeling that the owners spend a lot of their weekends at Star Trek conventions. There's your **** Don, heh, heh.
No, that's not that same car, I don't think my buddies car ever made it to the track, it was never completed by the former owner, and still had original (badly faded) paint. He is from Apollo Pa.
Hey, I'm actually on the H.A.M.B. !!! Kevin and I were just jokeing about this the other night. I'm glad you guys like the car. It will be ready for the first nice day of spring. I've changed my mind and am going to put a set of cast iron heads on the car that Weber Racing did a bunch of porting and extra head bolts in. Anyone from our area should really give those guys a look, they have done quite a few AMC's over the years. I've had alot of help from really good freinds on the car, My buddy Chris with the ch***is, Bill Hewitt with the motor, and of course Kevin with the lettering. Kevin you really are much better than you give yourself credit for. I basically just let Kevin do what he thought would look good and period. Any way, the motor(390) will be a stronger version than the time it was in my SC 360. 727 With a trans brake 4.11's and so on. The aluminum heads I decided to save for my stroker 401 for my Pro Street AMX.
My dad bought a 69 s/c new and just sold it two years ago, The other day I was talking to a guy about them and he told me where there is one at that has never been lic. they turned it into a g***er right from the factory I have left a message for the owner to call me back,
Ahhh. This one was built from a new car and spent its whole life in Buffalo-Rochester area. -Bigchief.
hey Jim, welcome to the hamb! Your life is forever changed.....Bill Hewitt is still around! It would be nice to see him at the track! I am hoping you will be at the G***er Reunion next spring/summer. Car looks great, it will be fun to play, but I think martin will be beating both of us when he gets some kind of motor in that opel! Don
Hey Don. I talked with you and Martin out at the Rock and Race gig at 42 in July. That Opel is bad ***. This car is mainly going to be a street car. I had thought about putting the 434 ci. motor in it that I've been working on for awhile but then I'd have to start all over again on a motor for my AMX. So I decided to put my 390 out of my old Hornet in it. That motor was a great street/strip motor. The only changes I'm going to make in it are the heads Weber did for me. The 390 I'm putting in it is actually an engine Bill and I did years ago that he had in an AMX. That car went 10.70's right from the start. Then unfortunately the car caught fire and was lost,so we took the 390 out of it went over it and put it in my SC. I'll still be using the same 25 year plus grind cam,Torker,etc.. in it. I know there are much better grinds now but that one worked really well and I'm not looking to make a total drag car out of this one. This car I just want to be fun.
That amx is not gone, I know where it is and it can be purchased! Yep, your motor is similar to mine. I too am running an old cam with an old torquer. Martin hurt the junkyard engine at Rock & Race. Jim Smith may be playing with a stroked 360 for the opel next season. Don
Got any bigger pics of the 'Rumbler'? By the way, that names getting way too popular! My version... ...and this one that was on eBay earlier this year. ...and now that early girl. Very cool!
I know the names been used a bit, but my buddy that helped me with the ch***is and the whole car in general really liked the name so I used it. I've tried to post some pics but they dont' seem to work with the attachment manager.
A bit off topic, but... Interesting video of a '77 AMC from the Iola show posted at: http://www.oldcarsweekly.com/videos/OCW/ocw_tv.asp?showid=378448 Did you guys know that these things came with tents?
hey jim, evil kenny here. i got a ****** guy for ya if you dont already have one. he did dons new trans and also jim smiths stuff (black gremlin) back in the day. his name is mike karas.he has been running his car(poison dart)and building ******s for 40+ years. he says he can knock a gauranteed 3 to 4 tenths off your car with one of his trick 904s with a brake or he can build you a 727 w/brake for 275 + parts, he did eddie kochias ****** too. he just did my trans. definitely the cheapest game in town, bang for buck.
Hey Kenny Thanks for the info,I've got a ****** guy though. Ben at Enhanced Performance Transmission. As I said earlier, this car is a street car and I'm building it to have fun with. Don and Martin can kick my **** at the track but thats O.K. I just wanted to build an AMC that would be cool. Kevin really made the car come alive. If anyone needs work done you should get ahold of Kevin.
Don't want to bring the wrath of the mods with an egay link, but you might search there for "amx cross ram". I've been checking to see what STR 14s and 15s are going for... ran into that. Think you All Makes Combined guys will dig the auction. -bill
I've had a couple of people ask - here is a picture of the dealership Gremlin Wally Booth Drag poster:
I met Wally Booth at the dream cruise this summer. It was great talking to him in person. Just a very down to earth guy. He told me a story of one of the first times he was in a big event he matched up against Ronnie Sox. Well, Wally beat him. They were parked near each other and he could see and hear an animated Ronnie all pissed off screaming " Whats next, I'm gonna lose to a Henry J" Priceless....
nope. no g***ers with any of these... think i AM gonna do an "updated" clone of a sc/rambler with one of the hardtops, though...
Thanks Brootal! I'm tryin' to do computerin' but I can't make big pitchurs. One of these days I really have to learn how to do that. I have 2 Falcon g***ers in the shop right now getting the same lettering treatment. One is Littleman's old blue one with the hot small block. It's getting a straight axle next weekend, then lots of blue flake and letters. The other is a cool 63 with satin green metallic paint, cage, straight axle, and wicked fenderwell headers and a side by side dual quad small block. There are going to be a lot of g***ers coming out in Cleveland next year.
