or how about the star drive in cruise nights, anyone know when that is? every weds or thurs? i went to the cruise at sams club about 7 years ago

I don't know if this counts as an intro, but im new to the HAMB. Grew up in East Bridgewater, and now live in Carver.

I'm holed up here in my garage high atop Mount Pisgah in Winchester.
Trying hard to make my grease flow downhill into the sterile Mystic Vally so they too can see the light!

I worked in Waltham for over 25 ++ years as a kid.
I worked in a car lot on Linden St., 859 Main St. and worked at 110 Lexington St. next to where Moe Blacks used to be and worked at West End Chevrolet in the late 60's too.
I had Z28's and Impala SS427's for my dealer demos back then.
If I wanted a Corvette for a demo They told me I'd have to buy that on my own.
I did that more than once.
OOH the memories !
I loved that town, really miss it and all my friends and co-workers I had there. The French Canadian community was the nicest group of families you'ed ever want to know. Hard working folks with great ethics. They were my best friends and most loyal customers in the car biz.
The girls were fantastic too in Waltham.
The street machines, the hot rods and muscle cars were outta sight back in the day.
I too remember the shop on Moody Street.
We used to call it the D.B.S. (Dirty Book Store).

 

Berlin.............that's where I found my '36 Ford coupe about 12 years ago.
It was stored in a barn that some guy named O'Brien whos mother stored it there for him.
Inside were about 2 dozen collectible horse drawn sleighs and lots of horsey gear and a beautiful '32 Chevy sedan.
The Chevy was not for sale, the Ford was available and after two days of disscusions it finally went home on a flat bed to my house.
The late spring's rains had washed the earth away from the barn doors and we used many 2x8's and 2'10's to extricate it from "Barn Purgatory"
Everytime I drive near Berlin I think of that exciting barn find I made.

Did you know Mike Hewins from E. Bridgewater or Wayne Hannula from Carver?
Wayne's family used to own Federal Furnace Cranberry Bog and Mikes dad owned Harry's Garage , a used car lot in town.

I used to waste a lot of lunch money at that dump!

 

Lenny........ I never took any pictures when it was extricated from the Berlin barn.
I do have some pictures taken of the '36 when it was first street rodded by a guy from Minn. / Iowa area.
They are color photos from the mid 70's.
It was all original black paint then with a Washington blue drivers door
with a Mustang/Pinto style shifter and an ugly home brewed dash.
It ran a blower under the hood in those days.
The thing looked funny then. Stock outside, tacky velour interior and monster motor.
It's been told to me it was silly fast in the 70's and 80's and traveled all over the mid west every summer.
A while later the car suffered a blower backfire and the front of the car caught fire.
Later it got repainted it, but never really correctly reassembled.
It was undriveable but it was all complete.
Thats when I came along to infuse lots of money and labor into it.
My tool box in those days was the size of a tin lunch box.
The garage, my tool boxes and level of skill (or non-skill) all grew thanks to that car.

Ashburnham...........They got a good school there down the road from the school boy statue.
I served a couple of years there.
Learned how to speak French there and polished up on my skiing techniqes.
Nobody there dug cars too much though.

 

Waltham is cool.
Resonable rent, good people and convenient to anywhere.

My pals and I used to waste Friday's pay check there in the 70's.
If we had any money left after browsing thru there we'd blow the remainder at the speed shop across the street on Saturday morning.
Ahhh, more great memories of Waltham.

 

Berlin..........You gotta open up a few barn doors in Berlin.
There still some neat tin hidden behind the walls of the barns up there.
I found my 5 window coupe in a Berlin barn 10 years ago.
I only had to ask the right people where to look.
