It's his & he can do with it what he wants..... oh but this makes me sick. It's like watching a helpless dog suffer. :(

I've been hunting on some land about an hour south of here this past month & have been driving past an early Chevy II everytime I go. Thought I'd stop in today & see if it might be for sale. My little boy says he wants a Nova four door someday & that's about all the excuse I need to buy a car. Plus, I've wanted to do a Corvette powered Chevy II for several years. Big power, big wheels, ground hugging stance...

Anyway, I pulled in & what I ***umed would be a four door sedan was a two door hardtop. White with red guts. It was straight, complete, & not very rusty at all. It is sitting in the bushes beside a house trailer. The guy at the trailer said it belonged to his father-in-law who lived up the road.

Off I go in search of Henry's Tractor, Menonite Buggy, Goat, & Pumpkin Emporium - which is also his home & wife's beauty shop.

Turns out Henry's mom bought it new & he has plans to restore it. No way in hell it's for sale. Not now, not ever. He has barns all over the place but chooses to let this family "heirloom" sit out in the weather.

How long has it been sitting you ask? Since 1990.

I'll waste countless hours & $400 in gas before I give up though.

    Harrison,

How old is your son? If you are up for a challenge there is a Nova Conv. in an old yard near here.

That kills me too. I have hot rod buddies that are the same way though, these guys have 30 or more cars and will not sell, its a shame to watch cars die like that.

2 door Chevy II's are getting a bit pricey. how much did you offer him?

bring about $4,000.00 in cash next time you go. otherwise you are just another person bothering him about a car that is not for sale.

I've had them come by when my 49 chevy was in the backyard for 10 years. the lips move but no money comes out.

When I was in high school (78-82) there was a 64 corvette sitting on jackstands in a guys driveway. At that point it has been sitting for at least a dozen years or more. You know the story, it was his kid's car and he went off to Vietnam and got killed. The car was still sitting there in the late 80s before he finally got sick of people bugging him and moved it in to the garage. For all I know it's still in that garage. When there is sentimental attachment like that you can never tell when the car will actually sell. It rarely is the guy that goes back year after year, rather some lucky dude that stumbles on to the scene at precisely the right time.

Was the corvette in Framingham M*** by any chance?

The guy probably really does intend to do something with it some day, he just hasn't figured which day yet!

Had to look at the posters location to make sure he wasn't where I live here in TX. There is a white on red 64 Nova SS here thats been sitting in some old farts acreage since at least 1989 when I moved here. Same story. Not for sale. Not no how, not no way... Whatya do?

You've got a solid '32 Fordor, why waste time on a Chevy II? Snap out of it!!!!!!!!!

  11. Good luck. I hope you get it. There is too much stuff sitting that "is gonna get fixed one of these days".

Well,..... I don't know if you guys will find this funny or not,....... I posted this a few years ago, I had picked up some junk 32 Ford parts over the years, that just ac***ulated and a rough gl*** Deuce body, In a playful mood I put the parts together and put this in the back yard for two or three years,... just so you could see it from the highway,....... this was a source of a lot of fun for me.

  15. I've got cars that I've owned for 30+ years and have never touched. there have been times that I would have given them away. the only times that I get asked is when "I'm gonna restore them some day." I've had as many as 27 at one time. now I'm down to "4 keepers and 3 maybe some dayers" the rest are just field cars that come in handy when I need to cut some sheet metal or find a bracket or something
not every one is into flipping cars. I find something that I like. It's mine and regardless of what you want! or would like to do. I found it first! go find your own.

there's a '70 fastback mustang that's been sitting in this driveway for at least 10 years and looks like longer.. It's on a major road, so I don't even bother to ask.. Either it's $35k dollars or it's not for sale.. Either way I'm sure a million people have tried to buy it already.. When I was in college there was a '69 or '70 Mach I, faded yellowish orange color, and everything on it. faded, dusty and flat tires too. Before I had a chance to go ask about it.. it was gone..

Interesting - I totally know where you're coming from Harrison, but I find it a bit ironic that I post a thread complaining about people not wanting to sell their yard art (because they'd rather watch it rot than give it a better home, like you would leave a dog out in the cold) and everyone jumps in my **** about being an ***hole for having the audacity to be upset that I can't buy something that is clearly not for sale. Hmm. Go figure.
All right, rant over. Good luck picking that up. It would be an awesome project to work on with your son - I hope he realizes what a kick *** dad he's got.

  18. OK, someone broker me a dollar for every story like that, that I have, and i'll split it with you. Right down the middle, 60-40, my favor

I have a list of a half dozen cars I'd like to build in the future. That number is realistic enough that I actually can & will do it. Four of them would definately be keepers. If can buy one from "the list" now, I'll sidetrack the current project to get it bought. None of these things are getting any cheaper.

Three from my list are in the garage now.

My '38 & '32 aren't for sale so I understand where the guy is coming from. I understand why he is attached to this little '64 too. More than I hate that it can't be bought, I hate what's happening to it as it sits there.

The four door $$ I had in my pocket today wouldn't have gotten me anywhere so I never even offered. Next time I go back to check on this car, I'll be loaded for bear.

Same story with 55 nomad a few blocks from me. Been sitting since 95. And it looks like it's being used as a shed. Same lame *** excuse from the owners wife "he's going to restore it".

What a bunch of winers! The guy doesn't want to sell it, ever, and he has told you so. Get off his ***. Go find one for yourself.

My 39 Plymouth coupe sits outside, sat in the snow all last winter! Will again this year too. I have a 2 1/2 car garage 20 feet away. I make my living out of that garage, if the car is in it, I can't make any money. The car is not for sale, but people ask me all the time. They get upset when I tell them its not for sale and many have commented on me not doing anything with it. Should see the look on their faces when I tell them I drive it every summer. Really doesn't matter to me if they get mad or not. Its my car and I will do with it what I want, including leaving it sit outside in the snow. I point to my 50 pickup with the snow plow mounted on it, truck = winter, coupe + summer, now go away. Gene

Uhhh....I think that's what he's trying to do, since Chevrolet doesn't sell them anymore.

There's a house near me with a nice 37 Packard in the front driveway. It's been there over a year and sat out all last winter in the snow and weather. The Chrome is starting to show some rust already. There's no garage that I can see from the road.

Every time I drive by, I wonder what the deal is. I figure they must have inherited it...nobody that paid for it or actually worked on restoring it would treat it so poorly. I haven't stopped to ask whether it's for sale yet mainly because I have neither the space nor the money for another antique car. Curiosity may get the best of me eventually though.

It's on a main road, so I'm certain if it were available cheap, it would be gone by now. Maybe they won't part with it because it was "grand dad's" or something...or maybe they've read about the crazy prices that some old cars are bringing and think they can hold out for big bucks.

It is sad though...obviously the car was either really well cared for over the past 70 years, or it was restored. Now it is going downhill and chances are it won't get back into the hands of somebody that appreciates it until its fine condition deteriorates to a level that warrants a cheap price or motivates the owner to "clean-up" his property.

I think he is too lazy to "beat the bushes" looking for one and is out for an easy score, just like the many before him. It amazes me how some people think that because they have a whim to get a car they see sitting at someones place, that car owner is suppose to sell it to them. Most expect a "deal" on their "find" too. True, Chevrolet is not making them anymore, but I suspect that one is not the only one left in existance either. Go find one for yourself, that one is his and he wants to keep it. Doesn't hurt to check back time to time to see if he changed his mind, but don't be an ***. Gene
