was it lowered? i think the car still exist,,,,GERM smoked a JOINT or a CIGAR in it a couple years back and Brian Setzer got mad?????
I took some pic's of it at the Imperial Palace, when they had it. It is definatly lowered in the back. It was hard to tell if the front was lowered though. Back looked like it was lowered about4". I don't understand the Brian Setzer connection. Why would he get mad?
sorry to keep jacking the thread, but I just checked Germs Profile to go back and have a laugh with some of his old posts and he lurked on by here recently, about two weeks ago!?!
Hey, In the movie the Merc looked lowered in the rear, stock height in front. Probably the result of blocks or heated springs. S****ey Devils C.C.
That was pre-digital man. I'll have to find them and see if I can copy them with my digital,or something. I'll post them if I find them. I've tried to copy the same stance with my car.
yup,,best shot!... asking natalie for directions to the new school,,then the COOL crew pulls up in the 51(?) ford convertable!
Dean Merc is alive and well on display at the National Automobile Museum, here in Reno NV. It will be on display at the Ironwood Concours, Murphys, CA. The museum has extensive do***entation on the car and the dash board has the studio ***et serial #.
wow,,thanks Frenz,, inever realized it was nosed when watching the movie,, i need to find my VHS copy,
If you look closely, you can see that the rear skirts are about 1 1/2" up from the bottom of the rim. I asked the guy to measure the height of the skirt from the ground and it was 6". So the back was lowered around 4".
It was lowered. It had a fifties stance, not a current, mini trucker inspired stance. We are so used to looking at bagged cars that we forget that it wasn't how it was back then.
I went for the same stance. Mines lowered 2 1/2" in the front and 4" in the rear(might be 5"). I like that look too Phil.
Man oh MAn that car was cool! A chopped Merc ala Sam or done by Dean looks mighty, but that Mercury in Rebel Without a Cause still is the style I want. Low nosed and decked.
Here are a few more shots to help clear up the ride height issue with the Dean car. I measured the car today and there are 12 inches from the bottom of each bumper to the ground. Nine inches from the rocker panels to the ground and 10 1/4 inches from the skirt edge. The car rides on Dunlop G78 15s. The car is nosed and decked as others have noted. The front suspension pic ain't hot but the rear spring picture is pretty clear on how the ride height was achieved. Although the car appears lower in the rear in the movie, it currently sits level.
One of my favorite Mercs period..and i love them chopped besides.. I had read about the mods a while back in some book..I can't remember what the hell the book was though.. It said it was nosed, decked, lowered and had "pencil tip" dual exhaust.. Basically everything that's been said, and shown.. Way cool pics by the way, thanks It really is so understated when you look at it.. It's a perfect example of how just doing a little can make such a big difference. There's a local guy here who has one VERY close to the Dean Merc in the look, but has been upgraded drivability wise. The car is unreal..
thanks for the great info. i just went thru reno a few weeks back..if i had known it was there i would have stopped to see it DAMN..
O T but, they also have a Westergard coupe out on the street scene between gallery 3 and 4. That's an amazing car!
It's definatly lower in the rear,in the movie. Thanks for the pic's!!!IT"S LIKE SEEING ELVIS(sob, sob),LOL!
