    Hey Bondo,

I'm liken' that you're buildin' your own Merc, and not a "me too -
mobile" Yeah, the headlamp detail won't win converts around here,
but it's your build. The purple top coat with the grey roof should
work well! Just run some wide whites to break up the mass of
    colour.

Opinion? A custom should be an improvement on the original. The huge ass carson top destroys the well flowing Merc lines making it look like an ugly step-sister Dodge of the same era. I've always thought of a Carson top as a compensation for poor metal-fab skills anyway..

The headlights are gay to the nth degree.

A lack of fabrication skills, I don't think so! After spending the day stretching some Merc doors yesterday I can confirm that as a load of crap, try it for yourself and a Carson top being the easy way out think again, the amount of work getting one to fit is mind boggling.. P.S change the headlamps they're fucking awfull

HAHA...build a real carson top and do the metal work on the car to make it actually fit and flow....you will wish you had just chopped the damn thing.
I built one 3 times to get it right...probably had more time in the top that the whole chassis build (including the bag setup and step notch)
+1 on the headlights...they just don't scream cool.

  21. Lugo...you're too funny,LOL!

  22. Carson top destroys the flow? WAKE UP!!! Obviously NOT a real Merc lover...

It's my opinion that the head lights work on this ride. The hood has been layed back and peeked. The front edge has a chain that matches the hood latch panel. The grill has also been peeked to match the hood. It's hard to make a 4 door not look so boxy. You know what thay say about opinions -- everyone has one.

how about a pic of the VW bus in the background..

you have done lots of work.. like the others I think the headlights ruin the car if you are going for a nostalgic looking merc (50's style) but from the colors I am guess that was not your intentions you mention.. what are you plans for wheels and tires... (big billet or more traditional ???)
Keep plugging along and share with us the final look...

  25. Sure...and 20's look great on a Hotrod...just not here!

forgot to ask, did you build the top or is it something that is available..? just curious.. are you going to paint or pad it... will you keep it permanently on or make it so it will lift off

carson styled tops have always been a mystic for me (wondering how they are built and attached or whether most come off or not)

Its a nice change coming from a 4 dr. Would I cut up a 2dr to do this? Hell no. But I can respect the time and skill it took to stretch the doors and convert it. Aside from the world's ugliest headlights, I think it looks pretty damn good.

    Aren't those like 50's Porsche?
