There is an abandoned farm not fifteen minutes from my house. Old tractors, a steam shovel and two old sedans dot the property. There's no house, just an old outbuilding. One of the sedans happens to be a 31 tudor just like mine. It also has two pieces I really need. I've talked to neighbors, left notes on the outbuilding but no luck. I actually walked up to it and had one of the parts in my hand. Nobody around for a half mile but I put it back and walked away. I didn't want any bad karma attached to my car. I guess I was a little cavalier in my last post. The only reason to take the cars would be if you've exhausted all avenues and you knew for certain the bulldozers were coming tomorrow to doze everything into the ground. If you don't know who owns the property then you haven't done all your homework. What if the VIN #'s were all doc***ented as government property with the Air Force connection? The chances are slim, but what if? I know I'd hate to explain that to the DMV.

Man, this is divided between saints and sinners I guess, little devil HAMBer on one shoulder, little angel on taother...I have done my homework, I made friends with the trucker/siteworker (whose employees probably made off with the 37 delivery) He said the lady/owner told him he could have the cars and he told me he wasn't all that interested, so I tells him to get back on the phone and tell the owner lady you do want the cars and I'll hustle on over there. He calls me back and said now her brother is involved and may want the cars, this is a year ago..the cars are still there, the land has been sold, along with mine, and is awaiting development..mind you these cars have been sitting there since the Big War and the property has changed hands several times..I'm tellin ya I'm goin in, I know how to ***le old cars, I ain't scared...well there is this BF beehive nearby I gotta watch out for....

Seems like it's not a black and white situation...kinda gray. So, i guess you should look deep in your soul and make a choice.

But...whatever you do, don't go posting a thread on an easily traceable computer board or some such, saying you intend on stealing something from someones property. Doh!

    ;)

I'd be tracing the new owner and offering to 'clean up' the s**** metal lying around the place for her for free. Can't have stuff getting buried that might injure someone who'll sue her now can she?

Can't your local real estate office or the county tell you who the current owner is? I'm a real estate agent on the Gold Coast and I can access government files that tell me who the owner of every property in the area is, where they live, their phone number (if not silent) when they bought the place and how much they paid for it. Nothing's secret any more, let me tell you!

    Good luck, Glen.

  11. It would appear to me that you had permission at one time to take them. The lady property owner said the guy could have them,he said he didn,t want them to "YOU".....I would be just taking what I was offered.

**** it... I'd be on this like white on rice on a paper plate in a snowstorm!

Do it for the cars, sit on 'em for awhile - just to make sure nothing goes goofy with them, chase the ***les, and then move forward.

Given the situation, and RixRex's research and efforts so far, he's done most of his homework, and if I were closer, I'd be helping!

Soon it will be a crime to own and drive old cars,
and then we'll all be criminals,
even the ones who prosthelytize on high.

Mistake #1: When that dozer guy said he wasn't interested your response should have been... "I'm on it." You let the guy know there was value where before, all he saw was junk. Man, you got to step up when it's your turn at bat.

The fact that you STILL have not gotten them tells me you're still not sure. Dude, the balls in your court. Oh that dozer guy, I wonder how many other people he told. I have a weird feeling SOMEONE is going to miss that stuff and you're suspect #1 at that point. THINK!

dont do it that way..also with you living so close ..where do you think they will look?..research first..show interest second...take apropreate action last..note to self..keep all my projects close to my house and clean shot gun daily on the back porch in clear view of anyone watching..

Without trying to sound like your mother, I think you already know what the right thing is. Do your homework. Chances are the people that own the land could care less. You don't want to spend your time looking over your shoulder when the police drive by. Enjoy working on them without the worry.

Stealing is stealing, no matter how you talk yourself or justify yourself into it. You WILL have to answer for it one day. I have old cars sitting in a pasture right now. There is no buildings or anybody living there. That means they are fair game????? I DON'T THINK SO! Just because I don't have anywhere else to put them?

If the things were rotting in peace-no problem.

Getting wadded up is a different story though.

  20. Thing is the lady who owned the property said SHE didn,t want them and said the DOZER driver could have them,he declined to take them. To me that would make them imminent domain and up for grabs. If you could find the dozer driver make a deal with him after all the property owner said he could have them IE ,gave them to him.

I say stop talking about it ('cause that's probably a crime too); don't video it; don't take any still photos; make up a story about where you got 'em.

    And get 'em!

    Good luck.

Make a sign, a GOOD sign and post it where the dozer guy can see it. Put your contact info on it. When he calls, go get them. FAST.

However (yea, you knew it was coming) "she said, he said", is a VERY weak defense in a court house or the DMV.

I cannot believe so many people on here are OK with theft. Even if they are going to get bulldozered that does not make it right to steal them. Its a ***** but that is reality.Thieves are s***.....do you really want to be in that group.

How long is it before the rule applies to my neighbors carrying off my stuff? I've had some cars and equipment sitting around here at least 20 years. Find the owner pay her or get permission get a receipt or leave the stuff alone.

I can't believe there is even a discussion about this, it's THEFT pure and simple. I've got an old John Deere B that has been stored at a buddy's property in Illinois for the last ten years. It's been outside the whole time so I'm sure someone would probably think it was abandoned, but it's not. I AM going to go back and get it, but things haven't worked out for me to travel there with a trailer, so you can imagine how pissed I'll be if it's gone when I get there because of some petty thief. Even if this 32 you're talking about is just sitting there, it's sitting on someone else's property, not yours.

I'm getting down from my soapbox now.......
