Amen Kirk! I too am getting a little tired of the cheap s.o.b.s that will spend more than $60 in one weekend on the cheapest/worst tasting beer and hang out with that bum! Maybe the bum can return the cans and use the money to build a awsome clapped out Schwinn!
Remember that the N.S.R.A., Goodguys and the other organizations that charge $60.00 entry fees spend the money to help support the legislation that allows you to drive your rod!
As for the "pushrod" comment, should all the rodders in 1955 have looked at that new orange contraption and shunned it? Some did! I ask everyone, what's in your ride for power? I'll bet it's one of those new fangled orange things, why? Because it's cheap!!!
No, the new stuff is not cheap. Neither was the s.b.c. in the early days but just try building a period correct '55 s.b.c. for your ride. If you can find one, the one with no oil filter. Because oil filters cost too much!
With that vented, if old days are what you crave? Unplug your p.c., ditch your cell phone and go hang out at your local hot rod club or drag strip! Build your next ride with only a torch and buzz box a.c. welder that cost three months pay! Oh, and no credit cards or 3-5 day shipping let alone next day! My bet is you come up short on the club members and the drag strip, I'll also wager that you loose interest quite quickly using 1950's technology!
Our hobby/passion is about cars, fun and personal expression! I do not agree with the unsafe shock value "art on wheels cars" or the million dollar never driven art cars. But, it's not my car! Please just use that thing on your shoulders for more than a hat rack, don't drive those unsafe rat's on the street. The "Man" (or woman) will hang us for it sooner than you think!

Kirk, tell em it's really a $200 entry fee but it'll be $60 for "your good friends." What a bunch of whiners, sheez.

Oh yeah, used to do a lot of autocrossing in college, I had to laugh at the first guy asking if those gate cones had been knocked down. I guess just like anything you have to have some exposue before you know what you're talking about. I suggest a bigger course though. Left-left-right-left in 13 seconds just aint enough! :)

Yeah, it would be cool to have long courses, but space, safety equipment (lack of) and insurance are the controlling factors. I'm sure one of the whiners will somehow associate the course length with greed or money.

This is great! I have autocrossed and road raced, but not with vintage cars. That would be a blast.

The guy that won the KC Goodguys had a kinda rusty '34 Ford sedan. I think it had an LS1 in it. Not sure about suspension. One front fender was holed by the headlight by the tinworms, but actually pretty solid car. I know I took pics, but can't find 'em. Don't know his name either, but it is probably on the Goodguys website.

Last year I drove my '32 Woodie around the oval track for 9 laps. It was fun for sure. I'm not sure how it'd do on the short curvy track, 18" skinnies don't stick too good.

This is the mentality that usually preceeds a change in employment status at goodguys.....:D
Just Call anyone who differs in opinion- whiners....
Ill be glad when all the"goodguys worshipin fuckers" go to the nursing home, where they belong....

A lot of other shows have much cooler entertainment than GG and more cool cars that are actually driven on their own wheels....

ust think how many more brain numbed particpants ya all could rip off if the trailers were banned.....

    Well,
you sure seem to be pissed of at the world. Just like everything in life some people like to one thing and others have different ideas. My brother takes his cars to GG events and we also took both of them to the HCP last year. He does not use them as everyday transport but he is on the road whenever he has time between the other things going on in his life.
Sure there are some trailer queens at GG events but you don't have to look at them. There are plenty of real hot rods too and lots of eye candy for those into the later stuff as well. I find the GG events more enjoyable that the NSRA stuff because of the variety of cars.
I loved the HCP but there was some pretentious crap there as well.
Don't get me started on cars that are patently unsafe because someone is pursuing "the look" with little regard to engineering or quality of construction. I find that stuff about as bad as the nearly undriveable trailer queens.
    Rant over,

You know, I was going to stay quiet on this but I just have to say that I'd be willing to bet that only 10%-20% of the cars at Goodguys events are trailered. With car counts in the 2,500 area average, that means that 2,000 cars drove there under their own power. They may not all be what turns you on but hey, that's how it goes, I have no problem walking past the coast-to-coast cars to check out the traditional stuff.

I think it's pretty funny that people bitch about having nothing to do at events after they pay entry, and then once the Goodguys Autocross gets rolling people bitch about that.

The drive to and from Goodguys events with buddies is fun, as well as trying out the Autocross course and checking out all of the other cars in attendance.

People can bitch about the price all they want, but just remember, attendance is VOLUNTARY. If you don't like it, don't go. Plain and simple.

Geez, are you serious? This is not Pro Stock drag racing. Its not tire heating burnouts, 7500 RPM launches, or gear crunching power shifts. For crying out loud its driving around some traffic cones in a parking lot!!! If someone does break something and can't get home, they have likely done something stupid, or drove a car that got there by sheer luck, and thats their problem. These are Hotrods! Sliding around is fun, and the chance to slide around in the safety of a parking lot is lots of fun!! Hell I ddin't even have a car, or a driver's license yet, but it was safe enough that the national club putting on the event, and a friend who loaned me a car, saw no problem, allowing me to run. I had a blast, and returned the car undamaged.
You drive your 32s all over and thats great. But they are more likely to get destroyed on the street than on a parking lot. Hotrods are a direct decendant of racecars, and ignoring that herritage misses a bunch of the fun of having one. If you never lay a little rubber, chirp 'em on a shift, or hang the tail out once in a while you may as well drive a Kia.
You are right, you are getting old!

Hmmm...if whiners is the wrong term, what would you use? That's what I call it when my 3-year old daughter complains without any real reason. I have yet to see a valid reason for people to try to convince others not to go to Goodguys events. Wanna see cool cars at Goodguys? Take your cool car. For what you get, the price is very fair. It doesn't mean everyone can afford it, but that also doesn't make Goodguys some evil entity because you don't have $60 for three days of entertainment.

For the 300th time, it's VERY simple. Don't like Goodguys? Then don't go. But I definitely call the guys who have to complain about not wanting to go whiners. Talk with your wallet not your whiney keyboards.

I'm just passing along information about something to do. If the activity is not for you, that's just fine.

Post a REAL reason that Goodguys sucks, today, not five years ago. Why they suck TODAY!

I have posted thousands of photos of cool cars from Goodguys events, and they are on MY dime. I pay for the hosting of the photos myself. Nothing I do or say on here is officially endorsed by Goodguys. I genuinely believe that Goodguys is a completely different company than it was even only 3 years ago, and I want guys like me to know that they can now come and be respected and have a good time. The same reason I kept Billetproof alive for 11 years...I love this hobby. There is no ulterior motive. I am one of the major players in the decisions of the company, and I take great pride in representing our end of the hobby at all times. I am listened to, and it shows, in every aspect of what Goodguys does.

I'm sure that the whiners will not want to listen to logic or the truth, but I guess I'm dumb enough to keep trying. But, actually I'm fine if you choose not to believe me. Those who go and actually can speak from recent experience know the reality, and they tell their friends, who come and have the same good time.

Thanks to those of you who trust me and what I continue to try to do for hot rodding as a whole.

    That's all I've ever said.

And the whole trailer thing kills me. Honestly there are maybe a couple hundred at a show of 2500 cars. The largest attended special parking areas are always Homebuit Heaven and Ya Gotta Drive 'Em...ALWAYS! Because someone else trailered their car to an event is a pretty pathetic reason not to go and have your own good time. I GUARANTEE you that there are cars trailered to EVERY "traditional only" event. If that's your criteria, you'll have to start only attending events in your driveway.

Debate me...please. Like I said, I still have yet to hear an intelligent reason why people think Goodguys sucks...today. The main reason I ask is that I may be able to do something about what you don't like about them. That's what I did when I took the job. And in my job interview that's what I told them I was going to do.

Sorry for the long-winded rant. The original point of this thread is to let you guys know about something that you may enjoy, the Autocross. Not your bag? Then move along and let those who may enjoy it have an intelligent conversation and gather information.

Also, if the whiners had real info they'd know that I consistently bash the trophy hunters and trailer queens in the Gazette, in writing! Those types puzzle the shit out of me and I make no bones about telling them, every chance I get. Just like I'll eternally question the naysayers, until I hear something tangible and current.

  21. I happen to dislike GG's shows and am open about that...its a right that I have...

You have your own soapbox here to promote GG,which seems to be a regular thing.... so I suppose we are even now -right?

I realize I am in the minority on this subject .
But unlike a few years ago ,when it was almost taboo to even mention going to the GG events it has sadly changed...
I personally think that this is not a good thing .... but that has changed along with the bandwagon jumpers that are newer members, it seems.

I Will not take up any more of Ryan's bandwith on this subject ,but if you wish- me and you can "debate" all you want via the PM system here..OK?

if you use the early registration before jan1 , you can go all 3 days ,2 adults, 2 kids under 12 for 35 bones at most shows, if you are a member. if not a member its another $30.to join which even gets you 12 issues of the gazette.
i never understand the bitching about the price, the early entry forms are there for the taking. just grab one at a show( in your goody bag, or ask your rodders rep ! )
and the autocross is a blast!

Yet again... Don't like it? Don't go. That's totally cool. PM me even one reason you don't like Goodguys events that is pertinent to them in the last 3 years. Like I said, if it's a good point I will do everything in my power to change it. Why wouldn't you want to act on the chance to change what you don't like? If you don't like the cars that go, that's great. It's just like not going to see a movie that doesn't interest you. I doubt you'd stand outside of the theater and complain to others about the movie that you don't want to see, and call them bandwagon jumpers for buying a ticket. You'd probably just go see another movie. I hope.

People bitched about Goodguys on here in the past, INCLUDING ME. In fact, I was one of the LOUDEST. Instead of continuing to complain, I did something about it, and it's not the same company it was before I started there. My biggest fault is how adamantly I stick to the things I believe in. People wanted change and Goodguys has listened. If they hadn't I'd have been gone from there long ago.

The HAMB is not my soapbox for Goodguys. The Gazette is my soapbox for Goodguys. The HAMB is my place to talk to my fellow like-minded rodders and pass on things that they may like.

So when I talk up other events like Paso, Greaserama and Primer Nationals, what's my secret evil agenda there?

I guess it's more punk rock to give whoever is successful the finger for no other reason than giving the finger. That's your right, and I support your right 100%.

I have done a TON to promote and CHANGE the hot rod hobby for the better in the last 15 years. What have you done?

Why is it "sad" that mentioning Goodguys on here is no longer taboo? Wouldn't that indicate that changes have been made by them for the better? To me a whiner is someone who doesn't act, doesn't try to improve things for themselves and others, they just complain.

I didn't start stirring the shit pot. Guys like you did. I'm just throwing facts on the table. Since when is defending with facts getting on a soapbox?

I'd suggest starting your own show if you don't like what's out there. That's what I did.

Once again, this thread was only passing along the information that there is something that might be fun to do if you are going to these Goodguys events. That's it.

Obviously you are a bandwagon jumper. Don't tell these guys that you can get three days of entertainment for $35. They like to think it's $85 for a couple hours of torture.

By the way, the check's in the mail for saying that you had a good time.

Can we PLEASE get back on track? Who wants to race their rod?

Wah wah wah... people broke parts.... wah wah wah :p
I can't wait for the chance to drive the ever loving shit out of my Buick down there... If I have to get it hauled back home so be it. I built this beast to drive not put around. It's not about destroying it, it's about getting all the performance I can out of it. In a straight line and in a corner. Maybe it's all the time I spent road racing motorcycles that makes me want my stuff to go fast around corners. Maybe it's the hot rodder in me that wants my stuff to be able to take some abuse. Until I break something I don't know what the weakest link is.

I love reading posts where whiners make asses of themselves...I think its a good use of bandwidth actually... :D I went to my first Goodguys event ever this year in Columbus and had more fun than I can even describe...No matter what type of hotrod you were into, there were more of 'em there than you could even see, let along whine about.... anyone who says that show wasn't a blast wasn't there.

KIRK! - do you think it will happen at Puyallup? Hopefully my '36 5W 'dragger will be done for next July. It would be fun to see if the back bumper will make sparks on the course! Can kids ride along? Sounds like good fun. F the F'rs if they dont like it. I am in. :)
