MAN WHAT A BUNCH OF BS!
I waisted my vacation time for Cruisin the Coast so I could watch the Biloxi storm troopers ticket one person after another all day and night for any little minor chirping of the tires and I'm not exaggerating even a little bit.
I feel like demanding my money back this isn't my idea of a good time. You spend $2,000+ to come down here and they give you tickets for bull ****.
I was on the way home last night and this *** hole motor cycle cop sneakes out and tries to get on my quarter where I can't see him and ride waiting for me to do any little thing. I was so pissed off I stuck my hand out the window and gave him the finger as I slowed down and followed him accross the bridge into D' Iberville exit where he turned to return to Biloxi and did a burn out up the ramp back on I-110 in the other direction. I'm calling the vendor that won't sell them racing seat today and telling him why. I won't support this show ever again! End of rant Im taking my pills now.

Sounds like the cop deserved it to me...****ing tax collectors are all they are now. Guess they are all about increasing revenue any way they can.
Guess Dr J has been right all these years about the Government being the biggest MOB in town....and cops have just become there enforcers....hell a warning from a cop can do just as much to slow people down and stop most BS just as good as a real ticket.

I've heard a lot of negative stuff about this show now. Ever since Katrina hit, they are ruthless down there. Like making a reservation and when you get there they raise the price $200/night.

Yep, make sure you inform the vendor that you didn't appreicate the local law enforcment trying to keep alittle order while THOUSANDS of hot rods, customs, street rods, street machines, mini trucks, and daily drivers converge on the area for a week. Yep, heaven forbid the police should have a presence there.

Ya need some water to wash that pill down with??

Judd, Ocean springs is the place to be during the day. For the record Biloxi WAS being EXTREMELY ****, I watched someone ticketed last night for revving their engine, no burnout, no mouthing the cop, and it happened right in front of me. In contrast, Ocean Springs cops had an area just north of the train crossing (before you pull out on US 90) where they had the crowd well back and actually encouraged burnouts, unusual because O.S. cops have a tradition of being extra strict. Today I witness the cops lined up on both sides being asked several times "is it okay?" and they'd give the thumbs up. Also bear in mind there were no fools burying the trottle, holding it and spraying nitrous to do it. Just a little extended chirp, and well away from the crowd. I don't have a problem with that.

To be fair with biloxi, the problem began last year with "spectators" in diesel trucks, ricers and even 4 door late model crown vics and the like doing the unsafe stuff, so I guess they have OVER compensated.

  10. Ya know, any more, I just cruise the HAMB to see what Denise has to say. It's a very entertaining activity !

BTW Denise, how's the recuperating coming ?

Sounds like they have had a bad time in the past and are determined to put a stop to it. They did the same thing a few years back in St Ignace, they were being taken over by idiots and had enough. Back then they even had people camping in the median of the xway getting up in the morning stepping outside the tent and taking a piss. Towns people will only stand for so much, piss em off and trouble comes. You may not like it but it's their town, you're only a visitor not a taxpayer there. There is a popular place just north of me where people come from all over the midwest to run their dune buggies and 4X4's in the sand dunes. Back in the mid 70's things got wild for a couple of years. The area residents had enough and for a while every summer holiday not one cop in the area had time off. State, county, and local cops were all ***igned duty in the vicinity of the dunes that week-end and they ticketed for anything and everything. It wasn't long and the hellraisers learned to behave or stay away. Sounds like you've decided to stay away and I don't imagine the town will miss what you would've spent there

Didn't say Burn out I said chirping the tires thats chirp not squeal just chirp. If they were doing big burn out more than what Ocean Springs cops lined up I wouldn't have a problem. I'm talking stone stock 64 Falcon 289 2 barrel auto chirp the thing couldn't get out of line if he tried. and I'm talking about watching this hundreds of times a day.
If they were interested in public safety they woud have parked up and down highway 90 and any real problem would have been eliminated, but they hid and ticketed for rediculous **** it was nothing but revenue generation.
I'm local I was talking about the people that come here from a distance and have hotel and gas for the drive as well as food and vendor sales, I only spent about $750 over the week with out the race seats I didn't buy.
The cop wasn't there to admire my car he was there to find any reason to blood **** some more money. I've had cops do a circle around and pull me over to check my car out this wasn't any thing like that and I wouldn't have had any problem with a cop pacing me if it wasn't for the history of the day.
I didn't get a ticket myself but my idea of a good time isn't watching a cop stopping somebody every three minutes for ****. I'm betting they wrote a thousand tickets a day Thursday to Saturay. None of the street rodders I hang with (all in their 60's and none of whom I've ever seen do a burn out) thought it was right.

man...and I thought it was just the west coast that was having problems with the car shows.

My dad is a cop and I have plenty of friends that are cops and yeah all that most city cops are these days are tickiting machines. That is where the money is. There is no money in arresting people and storing them in jail.

between cops giving tickets and the traffic light automatic tickets...tickets are big revenue.

I don’t normally chime in on things like this but being a cop with nothing to do right now why not.
I see people frustrated with the system on a regular basis but not supporting a show because some cops may have been ***'s is ridiculous. I'll be the first to admit some cops are jerks and some are out there to make money for the city but most laws have a good purpose and if you are acting within the law then you’ll have no problems the cops.
On a side note I hope to meet Denise some day so I can thank her for the down to earth opinions and realism.

    No, its not...

If going to a show stops being fun, for any kind of reason, you can choose to stay away.

Exactly. If it werent for new model cars flying down the strip and spewing black smoke on the cops, it wouldn't be like that. I thought it was BS as well, as it is no where NEAR that strict at S****in' the Coast where the minis drag and all. I think they knew most of these street rod guys have deep pockets and took advantage of it. I don't expect the show to be big at all anymore, not like it has been. Last year it wasn't this bad. The coast needs leniency in my opinion, the revenue the show brings to ALL the coastal Mississippi towns is amazing. 4+ million last year I believe.

And to add to the whole doing stupid **** on the roads, the majority, by majority I mean 95% of people down there were doing 30 miles an hour on Hwy 90. The people know what to do, it's cruisin the coast, it's people sitting in lawn chairs looking at your car as you drive by......not fly by. If a little rubber on the road kills this show, the coast will be hurting in October from now on IMO. It's not a big bad *** hill billy from the woods trying to be cool show. It's nice rods, kustoms, and street cars wanting to play for a while. Most of the problems were Friday and Saturday....the 2 last full days of the show. And Saturday night wasn't even bad....yet I say 20+ people get pulled over for things like blinkers not being used, slowing down too much in the road, and stopping in the turn lane.

The original poster can always go to the shows where the PRO MOD cars are doing full throttle burnouts into the spectators. Of course he would probably be on here complaining about his broken leg he would get when it careens into the crowd.

I re-read the OP. He said "minor chirping of the tires," not "full throttle burnouts." The reading comprehension of some people defies belief.

Driving a truck for a living I have seen more then my share of the country and southern lousyanna is one place I will not return to soon. A lot of the same issues with the cops concerning trucks as with rods. Out of state drivers are nothing but a source of revenue.

Don't ya think maybe the serious car show accidents this summer that killed and injured so many people might have the locals a bit edgy about car related events? Don't be a jerk and no problem.
