Are there any fenderwell headers that fit a 53 Chevy that i can buy and bolt in..??

Or do i need to get a set from a 55-57 and chop and cut,, or do these fit??

    Or start from scratch??

    Thanks..

I hope somebody jumps in hear with an answer to that. I bought a 52 deluxe last week at the Arlington Tx swap meet and plan on making a gasser out of it.

  3. cwatson1953 runs a gasser style '53 mordor w/fenderwells on it.

I have 66-67 nova fenderwells in mine. Had to do a 1/8" pie cut in one tube and pull it in away from the firewall. Otherwise a good fit.

I just got a new set of Hooker Super Comp, drag tubes. Slip on end, no collectors,, this way i can add to the length then put on a collector and cut a 3" hole in the back side to run a nice hidden exhaust system.

I figure i only paid $$250.00 for them at a swap meet last week, so i can afford to modify them if needed.. Which i sure they will need.. But they look to be fairly close..

The only sad part it, i won't know till over the winter when i get started on my toy,, i have others to build for some buddys, and family. Then mine..

I bought a set a long time ago from
    Tubular Automotive in Rockland, Mass.
I have no idea if he's still in business. It wasn't a real big operation, but he did nice work and the headers fit.
I had them on a 53 Sedan Delivery.

    You got it
get a set from a 55-57 and chop and cut
Its way less time consuming. I took a total of 4 inches out of mine and I like it. Made new short collectors too.

Speedwaymotors.com has them for 1935-1948 chevy cars with a small block, I have a '49 that is the same as your '53 and they fit perfect!!

murder city devil.> Don't sweat the hi-jack, no problem..

S.T.P.> I'm glad to hear the 55-57 headers will work, i just got a real nice set with the slip on ends.. I just need to chop and add the collector,.

And Fastchevy49>> Your car looks great, do you have any other pics of the front suspention.. I'm going to do a single leaf, model A set-up,, just to be alittle different.. But i would love to see how you did yours,, I had a 64 Chevy II i sold on here a few years ago that had the truck set-up. Man, i miss that car.. But my 53 should be pretty cool when i'm done..

Marty, steering is a stock column, shortened and re-angled. The rest of it is DD steering shaft with DD u-joints from Flaming River. They fit nice around the headers, and weigh half of what the uni-steer ones do... and for $10 more at my parts store... If you want to see some more pics, I'll start another thread for ya...

55project- How many pieces did your headers come in? I ended up having a 3 piece header on the pass side with a 4 piece on the drivers, and I still have to pull the inner fenders to get them off..!!

Thats a nice looking setup. I have a corvair box I may try to use in the same manner. Planning on using the vair buckets too.

Yep, i second that, look great. How do the springs sit, i know the frames are of a little from front to back in these Chevys? Do they angle in a little?

And i have a Corvair reverse, steering box, it sits on top and i'm going to try to use some of the factory steering into the process. We'll see:) My only worry is the box looks really small for a heavy car..

I went out and measured the 52 frame and the 38 front end and the 52 frame angles in more than the 38 frames does. The mounting points for the 38 springs are wider on both ends than the 52 frame.
