I've posted about some of the earlyer cars before, and how they tied in to the Detroit Concept Cars. But because of Ryan's post about the Rondine Corvette, I thought I'd post a couple of the later ones. For a while, the styles got really angular. Before the windtunnels rounded everything off again... Corvette ( Peninfarina ) Jaguar Etype Perana ( ( Bertone ) Lancia Stratos ( Bertone )
And my all time favorite. The Alfa Romeo Scarabeo ( Osi ) I might have to build something like that, someday...
Alex, you and my Dad seriously, need to shoot the shit someday. THIS car is right up his alley. He also had a couple of VW powered Fiats one of 'em used the Fiat trans.
Great of you to bring it up Alex. I myself am very interested in this kind of modification. It is nice to see coachworking being brought along the ride as automotive transportation evolves. Maybe some of you are sitting on pictures of similar era Zagato cars?
I have some pics of earlyer style Zagato's. The Alfa Romeo TZ1 ( to me, one of the most beautifull racecars ever built )
And the Fiat Abarth Double Bubble. The in progress pics are off a Abarth Zagato I'm restoring for a buddy right now... I'm still working on the Steel underside ( which is modified Fiat 600, so that part isn't really too interesting to post about on the HAMB But when I start shaping the aluminum panels for the body itself, I'll put up some pics...) The TZ1 and Abarth weren't really Concept Cars, though. They were racing Sports Cars, modified from production cars.
That is one beautiful machine. Can't help but notice and love the aesthetic beauty of a racecar. Reminicent of the work Zagato did for Abarth also. Here is a sketch of the car I took from the Zagato gallery
Cant think of which Maserati that is... Maybe the Ghibli? It kinda sorta looks like the Osi Ford 20M, though.
Talking about Osi... How about this one. The Osi Silverfox. Not the prettyest thing ever built, but pretty wild...
No... No... No.... Buy American (American Motors)! AMC AMX/3... American Designed, Italian Built. Hyfire
That AMX looks good, dig the quarter panel styling. Flows very well. What year was it first shown? Here are the Lamborghini pictures requested earlier.
Here are a couple more concepts. Some are new ones from Pininfarina, and Zagato. The little Alfa was a design study by one of the Italian car design schools. The 'flat' Maserari is the Birdcage concept, totally awful, but interesting. The older ones are the Lamborghini Prototype, Maserati Boomerang, and Serrinissima Jet. And another of that Vette.
The AMX/3 was 1970... Biscuit... I have always loved Teague's AMX/GT, which looked like a chopped Gremlin. He had a good eye (Amc guys will get that joke). Hyfire
Hey metalshapes, I beleve you'll find that Osi's main designer was none other than Mr. Tom Tjaarda, the same guy who penned the Corvette of Ryan's post. Zagoto's "double bubble" was though of as a styling touch by some, but was really used to inpart strength to very thin sheet- metal panels(thinner panels= less weight) in Zagoto built racing bodies. Swankey devils c.C. "The one thing all nations share is the fear that a member of the family will want to be an artist" -Robert Frost-
Pimpin Paint's post made me look around on Tom Tjaarda's site a bit more. It lists Francis Lombardi in Vercelli. Was this because he designed for him? I used to own a Lombardi Grand Prix ( funny thing, I didnt feel like digging through my albums to scan a pic, so I followed the Lombardi link, and found my old car... Still has my decal on the back...) I thought it was designed by Giorgetto Guigaro, but I never found enough info to be sure.
I've got a bunch of Italian car body industry magazines from the 60's & 70's called "Style Auto"with a bunch of this stuff in there. If I can get the time, I'll scan some of it. Pretty wild one offs in them.
