I have the opportunity to buy one of two vehicles--a 1930 Model A truck or a 1930 Model A Roadster. The truck is more "modern" with a Mustang C4 drivetrain, disc brakes, steel wheels, no top, low stance, etc. The roadster is more traditional with a flathead motor, drum brakes, original wire wheels, "bigs and littles" tires, traditional rake, etc. Both are approximately the same price. My questions are: Which is worth more now? Later? Sorry for the dumb questions--sometimes it's so difficult to pick a new toy!
Pick what you want. I would pick the roadster but that is what I would want. New stuff doesn't excite me and roadsters come at the top of my list. Neal
I've always said, "if you can only have one hotrod it should be a roadster", but that's just me. That sounds like a good roadster.
Roadsters have been worth more than pickups for the last 75 years or so, probably won't change. But in a decision like this, personally I'm driven by what I want, not future value. For me this would come down to whether I want to drive the truck or the roadster.
Hey Guys, Thanks for the quick replies! The price on either one is about $9500. Both are "finished" and running. Both are painted a suede/semi-gloss black. The truck was recently built and is claimed to be a "daily driver". The roadster was built a while ago and was built using parts no newer than 1955. And, to anwer 36-3window's question, no, unfortunately, I can't afford both. Fred
Yeah, I agree with you. But, since both are topless vehicles, I figure the experience will be similar. Except, the truck has more horsepower...But, that can be remedied in the roadster.... I really appreciate everyone's feedback. Fred
Both r cool....buy the black one... Seriously, drive both and get the one that feels like you! Everytime I buy a car...I know I gotta have it!
Kinda seems like a no brainer to me, but then again I dont have the spendoolies reddied up and a choice of cars! Id go the roadster, only time I would avois a 30 roadster is when a 30 coupe is on offer.
Did I hear you say the truck is a Roadster pickup? If so I would go for it. Otherwise everyone should have a roadster at least once in his life.
get both...put the drive train from the roadster in the pickup, and then sell the roadster with the pickups guts
I'd go for the black topless one. I think i would go with the roadster just because that's what i want after i'm done with my tudors.
Buy both for the $19k pull all the stuff out of the pick-up and put it in the roadster then sale it for $20/$25k. Then you'd have a free roadster pick-up with a flathead. Or Not!
Traditional is traditional. Buy the roadster with the flatty. Then let me know where I can retrive up the RPU.
Thank you for everyone's replies! Yeah, I've been leanin' more towards the roadster for all the stated reasons. The only reason I have been considering the truck is that it would be easier to get replacement parts at the local AutoKragenPepZone. Just for clarification, does RPU stand for roadster pickup? If so, then the answer is, yes, it is an RPU. If not, then the guy did an awesome job of rolling/finishing the rear of the cab to look stock. I wish I could buy both! Fred P.S. Anybody wanna buy my '54 Ford Customline? It's listed in the classifieds....
