we own a 1940 willys coupe that is a look a like of the charlie hills filthy forty. We purchased the car about 4 years ago after it had been in storage for about 20 years. It was an older racer back in the 60's but we are not able to trace the history due to the death of one of the previous owners. We very much liked the look of the filthy forty so we contacted pork zartman so see if it would be alright if we used the same paint job. One thing led to another and now the car is painted and lettered up like the original filthy. We have been on tour with the S&S race team this summer and have had a great time. We put pork in the car at the hot rod reunion in columbus ohio when the car went out on the track. Boy did he have a smile on his face. He also had a picture of charlie hill in the passangers seat. It was a great time for all. Great thread that you have going here.
    Gasser girl.

  2. The front end was all warped and cracked... it was an old Kellison front end, a real piece of shit, even when it was new!

I cut it up... saved the fropnt section as a wall hanger...

    Thanks for the nice words!

    Sam.

Does anyone have any pictures of early Chevy II's with straight front axles and the slicks hanging out of the cut open rear quarter panels?

This is a few photo's of my Gasser 57 chevy.Built as a show car in 1977 and featured on the cover of UK Custom Car magazine in June 1978.The car vanished in 1980 and reappeared for sale in 1996.The car had been pro streeted but luckily all the original parts had been kept.Rebuilt the car back to as close to original show car and ran it for a couple of years on the street.Started drag racing the car in 1998,now run in a series called The Gasser Circus. We run about 5 times a year as demo cars at two strips in the UK.Hopefully next year with a 12 car field. The car runs a 461 BB chevy,671 blower, turbo 400,9" rear. The car is all steel, metaflake gold seats, real show and go.Runs 10.4@129MPH.
PS Was on the reliabilty run posted on this website by Mrs Hippy.Took the 32 out for a trip,220 miles in one day storming run.

I plan on running a 383 with a 727 trans with a manual valve body and ford 9" with 370 gears.
The color will be flat black with green tinted windows. Finishing up rear shock mounts then I'm going to start cleaning and repairing the floor boards and work my way

    Thanks

  13. Sounds cool. What wheels will u have? Will there be a scoop on your hood or a bugcatcher tru it? Any lettering on the sides or just plain flat black??

Meet Black Betty. It ran an Olds and a Hydro in the early 60's in Oregon - had a Dairy Queen logo on it, then went to Washington and ran as the 'Mikes 19C Hamburger car with a small block and 4 speed - carbed first then injected. I have some good footage of it racing in C/gas over a few year period, was a few colors - gray, blue, black, maybe red once. It then became a street car in the 70's, got crunched and parked in '75, and was resurrected this year. Runs a really wicked small block from an outlaw car with a 4 speed. Likes RPMs...... Ran a 12.95 at 107 first time out, with old 7 inchers out back, and soft shoeing it, kept wanting to walk sideways. Needs a tougher rear end, instead of the '57, and some good axles, but it will run a street exhaust too, should make a fun 'town cruiser'! She'll run a hood with no side aprons most likely, haven't decided wether to run a scoop, or poke somethin' up through a hole, or.......? "Black Betty had a child, the damn thing gone wild......." Tim:)

Here's a buddy's Blair's Speed Shop built (in the 60's), X-Lion's Dragstrip record holder '55 gasser. It was found on the side of guys house after he parked it in Dec. '72 after running in the last race at Lions. It had 30+ years of debris on it. After alot of work (5 years!) it is finally done. 301 SBC, M-22, 4.11 Pontiac/Olds rear, Blair's front axle, and rear traction bars, and more. The seat was originally done by Tony Nancy. I lettered it for the CHHR at Fomoso this past October.

The details on the car can be seen on the website:

I couldn't resist posting this shot. I was able to pose my coupe with the restored SWC car at the NHRR back in June. When Joe Triolo was doing the restoration he and I were in touch. I supplied him with a lot of detail photos (taken off of my car) of the rear wheel housings, tailpan, spot welds, etc. because he had some fabrication work to do back there. It was really neat to finally see the finished car and pose my heap next to it. That car was one of the main reasons why I got into gassers (as a kid). I built countless models of it back then, and I'm still messing around with them now!

Maybe somebody knows this car from another topic, but a few more pitures won't hurt.
It's my '55 "Gomad". A Nomad turned into a El Camino with a '65 Vette 350 and a Muncie M21. Original old custom from late 60's early 70's with old crackling paint.

  30. Sold my '56 and replaced it with this '64 Nova. Taking out the old dropped straight axle and going to replace it with a Speedway setup.
