I beg to differ. There's a chick in my neighborhood that push-mows her lawn in a bikini...

ALthough I deny I have it, my inner man-pig exists, and becomes hard to choke down during this spectacle. :)

  3. Be careful talking about choking something while watching bikini girl mowing. That's a word picture that scares me.

    Me, too.

The old man I passed yesterday whackin' it through his trousers on a bench in the entrance to Wal-Mart comes to mind... OMFG.

Seriously. He was just sittin' there, whackin' it, and looking all around at everybody. WTF?

First photo, grinding the washer, please move that gasoline can out from under the grinder. I know, its old, empty, sparks probably wouldn't ignite it anyway but this whole thing you are doing here is very cool and I want to see you live to finish the movie.
Be careful, there aren't that many hot chicks who work on their own car, have a beautiful '32 roadster, "get it", can make a movie and take such stunningly beautiful photos, so take care.:)

I've read *most* of this thread - again - but I just realized I didn't see when you plan (hope?) to get this complete? And did you ever decide to allow us to buy pre-release dvd's in exchange for first off the press? I saw cafepress - not so much on that design. But I'd send money now for the dvd. Hell, what you have already in the can would be worth it...

The beauty about that store is that you can have unlimited versions / designs. What design would you guys like to see? Just the car? Just the title of movie? The girl? The K-Mart guy whacking? (Oh wait.. he isn't in the movie)... ;)

GIve me some ideas and I'll make it available.

    UPDATES

Sorry I didn't post the second photo yesterday but I had a little problem. I was driving on the freeway, after leaving my day job that afternoon, and was heading to a P2 clinic in Burbank. Suddenly I hear a loud POP! It took me a moment to realize what it was: MY HEAD HAD JUST EXPLODED  ... In retrospect, that's probably why it took me a moment to realize it had exploded: cause I no longer had a head! Now with no head, and having made a HUGE mess inside the truck, I managed to exit the freeway and drove to the nearest car wash. Well you should have seen the dude's face when I asked for a full detailing! How did I ask? Oh I am a ventriloc, didn't I mention that?

OK, so maybe I am exagerating a little, but just a LITTLE. My head has been feeling like it is ready to explode for the last 4 days due to the absurdly HUGE amount of technical information (most of which making no sense at all) that has been SHOVED in my poor little head.

How much shit can one learn and retain? So finally, my brain popped :D.

HAHAHA, that's funny, you have a good eye man! Never even noticed it, this was not at my garage, it was at Sean's house (that's the plymouth on the right - before it was done). Now I have my own grinder and no gasoline under it - Note that the can was empty more than likely and I believe it takes an open flame to ignite gasoline? At least that's what I was told...

    MORE CANDID SHOTS

From my other website I remembered I have tons of candid shots of the roadster and me, cruising, going to car meets, car shows etc... I will post some here too. It's kinda hard for me to see the roadster like it was back then when I bought it with radials, red hairpins and flat black color. It sure has evolved since!

Anywhoo here are a few shots: This is a candid shot taken at Bob's Big Boy which I then dressed up and made to look old.

This shot was taken by Allen Green, a great car photographer. What happened is he saw me pull in at the exotic car meet in Calabasas and asked if he could take some photos. I had no idea who he was and said sure, knock yourself out! A month later I was part of an art exhibit! THe print below is currently hanging at a Lamborghini / Ferrari dealer in Studio City (sorry if I mispelled above brands - oh well... as long as I can spell FORD ROADSTER I am Ok hehe)

MY FIRST TIME SITTING IN THE DEUCE OF SPADES

Cool, I just found this candid shot taken the day I drove to look at the roadster after I saw its for sale listing in the classic car trader magazine. Here I JUST came back from a little test drive around the block and already feel at home behind it's 54 chevy steering wheel...

You can see the radials, red hairpins and lack of paint job. Firewall used to be beige. Otherwise pretty much as is today.

Here a few days later as we do a last inspection before taking the lplunge - notice the beige firewall

Now the money has passed hands and so have the keys. I am in a daze! I still can't believe I now own a roadster... After looking for one for so long it seemed like it was NEVER going to happen. I drove it home that day and smiled the WHOLE way, smile so long and so hard that the next moring when I woke up I felt a strange pain in my face... "What the heck?" Then I realized it was from too much smiling, my muscle were SORE ( I KID YOU NOT)... I never had experienced this ever in my entire life. So I guess it is safe to say that driving my roadster for the first time WAS, in deed, the HAPPIEST day of my life.

It's the vapors you have to watch out for, IF you could get past the vapors you could extinguish a lit match in a bucket of gasoline. DON'T TRY IT! You won't get past the vapors......... A near empty can is just as dangerous, maybe more so because of the air/fuel ratio or concentration and all it takes is a spark or heat source to set it off in the right concentrations. I had a co-worker that started cutting on a car that had been sitting in a fence row for 10 years with no gas cap on it. You'd think there wouldn't be any vapors right? He got the gas tank hot but didn't actually cut through it with the torch and there was still enough vapor in there to ignite. It ignited and he got knocked on his keister and the hair singed off his face and arms. He had personally removed the cap 10 years prior when they parked the car because he needed it for something else and new they wouldn't be driving this one again.

    UPDATES:

OK I ADDED FRAMED PRINTS to the store. Setting it up took FOREVER, I was at it all day. But I was able to have quite a few prints available and I also updated the store's look so it easier to find stuff and navigate.

These prints are already framed and ready to hang. See them here:

What else would you guys like to see in the store? Any other photos you would like to see added to that section?

Yes, those are the photos :) Framed are a lot harder to sell and I prefer sticking on the wall in the garage anyway; did you consider selling unframed prints?

I find myself playing that trailer with the Puccini track to my kids during breakfast most mornings. Something so soothing but so cool with the roadster.
The kids love it! Me too!:)

Top job so far Faith. Can't wait to see the movie and buy the DVD.

  24. I've seen this thread a few times over the last few weeks, and thought "Great, someone wants to make a 'hot rod' movie. What castrated abomination is Hollywood going to put out now?"

I'm so sick of Hollywood movies, I almost catagorically refuse to watch anything filmed here in the US.

But, I read a post by HRG, and was hooked. So, I've read the whole thread.

I ain't gonna' jump on DoubleUc's bandwagon about Johnny Underpants being too 'pretty'. I was in the modelling club in high school (hard to believe looking at me today), but I also skipped school to scrounge parts for a '52 Ford, and spent every summer working in a machine shop. I just wish people thought I was too 'pretty' to be a mechanic anymore! I don't think I'd exactly stop any girls' hearts today...

    One thing you got wrong:
You're the one with a life. Of course, I've gone through and read seventeen pages of thread on this in one sitting... I'm not sure I have a life.

Reading the post about hotwiring DOS while it was gear... I think we must be related. S'pose it could be - my dad is from southern CA; outside LA.

In fact, he was into cars there in the '40's and '50's.

    One question:
    casting couch?

Hell, maybe I'dve had a shot.

Anyway, I'm putting a link on thecarfarm's website; it gets about a thousand visitors a month, and these people need to know about this movie.

Absolutely, I just ran out of time on Friday, I did all the framed prints first (and that took about 8 hours of set-up work) and ran out of time, had to go meet someone at BBB. The unprinted prints are a different size so I have to do the same process all over again, it will take me a good 6 hours to resample and upload the photos and set up the products. So I should have them ready early next week :D

    UPDATES

Didn't go to the SCTA meet this week end. I have had to make some very serious decisions about the film this week, about where I want it to go and how far I am willing to take it. Have talked to tech experts and producers who understand how it all works, meaning getting a film out there to the general public.

And it suddenly hit me that if I have a chance to take this film to the general public I really should. Because I want them to know about hotrods and about the way it used to be and about this way of life and the tradition behind it. And if, because of my film, a few people out there became inspired, went out and restored a few more cars, or became hooked on hotrods, or even if a young kids thought: "To hell with ricers, old roadsters are the shit" then I would have in deed achieved something.

I really really want this film to look as beautiful as I can make it look, within my meager means. So I decided to take a deep plunge and upgrade my camera, so to film High Definition with wide screen mode in 24p and a 35 mm adapter. This means the footage will look very close to film. This also means I am in the poor house. Hey, that's what retirement funds are for anyway, right?. What the heck I don't plan on living that old HAHA!

When I'm homeless and on the streets, will you guys let me crash on your couch? :D

The result of this upgrade? Amazing image and the possiblity to transfer to film and do a theatrical release. That is, if the film comes out good enough and someone is interested in releasing it. This means doors will be able to open for this hotrod film when it is completed.

So F#*&% it, I'm just gonna do it.

Hi there been scanning the posts on the movie, I'm sorry I did not see it earlier. I'd love to help on my days off. I have a bunch of Pro's that love cars after hearing me 12 hours a day everyday talking about cars. Check out th site and let me know if I can help. I have the steadicam here with me in Burbank. And yes I've shot with the P2 before. On Days of How much fun would it be to shoot some crazy cool steadicam shots on your film, Maybe even just crazy tracking shots throughout the dessert. See the site, Call me if you need anything.
