If you do the cop car theme, you HAVE to wear a black suit, skinny black tie, fedora and dark sungl***es at ALL times when driving the car..... If it were mine, I'd lose the skirts, paint the car, paint match the wheels and get a set of poverty caps. Just a nice, clean simple driver.

OMG ........ that car is so you !!!! If your gonna change the wheels and use ford rims ( same bolt pattern as mopar ) I think you run into trouble in the front cause the center hubs are bigger. Drive the **** out of it, them 318 wide blocks are good motors. Gary

The 318 poly and LA 318 block are the same size. the poly heads are wider.

I'd say if you're driving a solid car that old a lot, then it's not a turd. Drive it, enjoy it... and put your money into getting your Chevy running... but I know I'm no fun :D

OK, let's say I had the car, and I had one weekend and a budget of $20 to customize it. What would I do?

First, I'd buy some junkyard steel wheels so I could do away with the honeycomb wheels. Reuse the tires if I have to (maybe they are skinny whitewalls but turned inside out? We can hope). I could s**** out the aluminum wheels for probably $60 and use that in my customizing budget.

Paint the wheels shiney black, mount the tires, maybe get a set of trim rings or some chrome lug nuts to set it off. I like the Supremes way better but we're working on the ultra-budget here.

2" lowering blocks in the back and a couple turns of the torsion bars in front will get it a bit lower. Nothing drastic.

Sand the roof down and paint it white, with Wal-Mart 98 cent spray cans if I have to. Two tone will help break it up a lot.

Then shave the trim. If I'm not going to paint it right away, just unbolt the trim, take it off. Especially the stuff on the front fenders. Sell it on eBay for a couple more bucks toward the budget. I'd remove all the emblems, but keep the side trim spear and probably the door handles since they'll look stupid if I don't weld them shut.

Dual rear quarter panel mounted antennas would be my last mod. I bought a pair of 80's Caravan antennas new from Fleet Farm for $12 and they mount at an angle so they were perfect.

Then I'd just keep it that way until I was ready to paint the body all one color and buy wheels.

Hell, if you Do paint it flat black, mask of what you want, and let your KIDS paint it. Its flat black, remember? They can't mess it up. There are many plusses to this. You get to have a hotrod project with the young-ins that they'll never forget, and if anyone gives you any ****, you can just say what do you exepect, my kids painted it. :D

    hi,

i don't usually reply to threads like this, so anyway, here are my three cents

it's a neat driver, but don't lose sense of what it is. a mid-60's luxury 4-door. you'd be foolish to dump a ton of money into it. enjoy it for what it is: a neat old cruiser with "patina".

were it mine (and trust me, I'm jealous), i'd be itchy to replace those rims with stockers and the coolest mid-60's hubcaps you can find. the suspension on those cars is so easy to fiddle with; i'd put some 3" blocks in the back and loosen up the torsion bars to level it out. that's it. just those two things and drive.

    thanks for listening,
    ed

yeah, the thread is more for fun then anything...i have way kooler things to spend my money onthen this ...but now that ive seen it in the pshop's,,,,im thinkin toooo much:D ill nab a cheap set of wheel/tires one day for her...till then, imma just tune it, fix a couple lil things.....then ill fart with the bad bondo work in the rear quaters....then most likely take it to the boys and we can shoot it cheap...you know, beer buyin kinna paint job!:D id like to shave a few thing on it, lower it...and shoot it with some cheap *** paint...then wheels one day for the hell of it....thats about it....make it kinna fun to drive!

i don't think that car would look right with custom paint or fancy wheels. it's just not the right car for it. the mindset to approach this from is to build what should have and could have rolled out of the factory.. mild tweaks and an overall factory appearance.

for now that would simply be wheels and stance. the stance is easy: blocks and torsion bar adjustment. replace the wheels with some junkyard steel wheels and a set of 60's factory hubcaps. nothing fancy, just simple. while you're waiting for the the right caps, paint your new junkyard rims shiny black and see if that look grows on you. regarding the issue of whitewalls vs. not, i'd run them if i had them, but if the current tires have good tread and hold air, i wouldn't replace them.

i like these '65 dodge caps... simple, clean:

if you're going to repaint it (and i probably wouldn't), i like the factory color with the roof painted a creamy off-white... nothing fancy, just a clean two-tone combination that could have been stock. you could make it cleaner by removing the emblems and that silly trim on the front fenders. keep the side spears though.

This gets my vote, get the cop car wheels and tires if nothing else.
Some good sounding dual exhaust would give it more at***ude also.

please do not paint it. Original paint has character.

I, too, just picked up a four door. steel wheels, lowering blocks, cut coil, used headers with exhaust. leaving the original paint, interior, and cruising. simple. (and cheap).

Any 5 spoke's w/ thin white wall's will improve it's look. Supreem's are not required. JD Blitz Black the body, silver 'flake the top. Blanket the seat's. 1 week-end under the hood detailing / tune-up ect. Done. Drive it and focus on the g***er. Bueno? Si.........

well, this p job is do...not that i dont dig the patina, but theres some real ****ed b work on the lower rear qrts. and on the fender that have to be fixed..well, dont hafta be, but imma rig it back to close, if imma fart with it...theres no way to rematch the patina, so,,, a 60 pk o beer, some farm supply paint, and a way we go!>>>>:D
nothing fancy , just okayish....then lower, wheels,[if i can score some cheap] and pnt the top and off shade to be diff....other then that, not much...a radio, for rockin the rumblejetts, and a sack of condoms, and im golden!!!!:D

Here is a photshop of my plan for my '66. Two-tone paint, lowered, shaved rear handles, different wheels (the ones in the pic arent right) and shave all the trim including the hood orniment. Also I filled the middle section of the grill

I really hope all the flat black talk is a joke. That car would look like *** in flat black... try some 5 spokes and skinny whites to start... take her down a couple inches ... nice dual exhaust with gl*** packs.... roll
