When you google "vintique 1932 shell" the first 2 pages of returns are places selling them.

The search ****on on the board, as well as google and ebay would answer about 99% of your questions you ask as new posts.

Why don't you pick up some books or magazines and do a little research on your new hobby here?

there was and article in Street Rodder by Ron Covello on building one. His was cut down for a project, but the steps were well detailed.

It seems the Brookville unit is the best for the shell, and the Dale's Manufacturing unit is the best, USA made, for the grille.

Brookville is NOT a reproduction of an original shell since it has no holes for headlight and horn conduits, or cranking access hole, and no stock radiator filler cap opening on top.
However it is a nice smoothie version for non-original look.

    BUMP THREAD

Hey, anyone have a three dimensional CAD scan for a full size 1932 Ford Grille Shell ??

I want to play with some form building, in order to have a play on a Deuce shell track nosed.....so to speak. A CAD scan will help me immensely.....to CHEAT MY PATTERNS.

Please HELP. Being almost 2015....surely someone here has a CAD for this.

    Anyone ?

    Anyone ??

    ANYONE ?????

Lol I need a starting pattern for these hands. A scan would be easy for paper template dimensions. You can get the measure and cross-sections perfect. I am no craftsman. I need some plywood cheating wayyyy before bag and hammer. I'm talking screw gun/jigsaw type of ****.... :)

Someone out there has a computer ***isted design 3-D scan for one, I know.....this grille CAD here is on the HAMB
    [IMG]

Give it up !! Who has one for a Deuce grille and shell ?? Help !!!!

I don't want to copy a '32 design....I want to lay it back a bit, and that will alter a bit of everything. I want to model a track nosed inspired Deuce nose....or a Deuce inspired track nose. Maserati track car esque from the period.....but with the Deuce thumbprint.

Want to build a plywood form for a track nose inspiration of sorts please.....

    Sooooo.......

Here are some 1932 grille shells. Pines Winter front, and styled as :

[IMG][IMG][IMG] I like the Pine fronts because they seem to have a more aggressive taste then the normally more refined Deuce grille. They remind me of these.....

...same era FACTORY PREPPED RACERS - Compe***ion Talbot, Comp. DelaHaye, another Comp. Talbot, Comp. Maserati, and two different versions of Edsel Ford's speedster cars :

    Tnose25 talbot.jpg

    Tnose29delahaye type 135 comp-.jpg Tnose25 talbot7.jpg Tnose25 talbot5.jpg Tnose16.jpg Tnose26.jpg

WHAT DO I WANT HERE ??

A three dimensional CAD scan with original dimensions for a 1932 Ford Grille surround, and maybe....maybe the grille.

I want a starting point plywood form pattern/buck to scale MY VERSION of a HENRY FORD SPONSORED TRACK NOSE EFFORT IF, IF, Henry decided to build cars as racers.......and not just "transportation for the m***es".

MY NAME IS NOT RON COVELL. If it were...this is what I would look like :
    [IMG]....and I would be smiling because I wouldn't need a damn 3D CAD scan.

Found a grille tech with the Fibonacci sequencing discussed....some pictures are evidently missing for some reason....but no CAD for Deuce grille. You had me excited though !! :)

Thank you for sharing....I have typed all kinds of keywords for CAD '32 grille shell hunt....and that would be the first Italian hint. I like it.

    Alas....the search continues......

I measured up my Deuce shell and drew it in AutoCAD. Only 2D, though:

The Vintiques original shell (B-8200-OGS) is no longer in stock anywhere. I have been searching for one for weeks now. The Dales insert in a Vintiques grille is apparently one of the better combos.

Oh...and if you have a Vintiques original shell (has the crank hole etc) let me know.

This is an old thread but the Brookvilles takes some insert fitting. I think the Vintiques are better although they have their own problems and the Dales insert is no longer available.

Thanks Ned, that is a bit better....the 3D part maybe I should edit INTO my previous posts. It's the cross-sections and measures/exact curves that I want to get....to cut the exact shape to paper.....and cut that to my plywood....to build the form/buck. I guess this is like asking for the answers to a test....so to speak....not always immediately on hand.

I'm not a metal guy. This would be one of those posts.....from a HAMB'er's garage.....utilizing a Home Depot lumber supply and screw gun. Maybe wasting a month or two, and a pile of s**** metal to have something postable. I dunno'.

I do know that I can definitely build a furniture grade wood buck, and may turn it into a coffee table.....if my metal experiment gives me the shaft.

Well.....it's been a few weeks. I have looked into leasing scan equipment.....in lieu of buying. I still can't believe the dollars and cents involved in this stuff. Will probably have to purchase an excellent '32 grille as well....to scan in the first place. Maybe smarter to buy an already built grille buck from some dusty shop out there in sheet metal land??

    Bump for 3D scanning.

    P.S. Ned Ludd is awesome.

If you can't build a buck, from photos, in foam and plywood,
given the height and width, how are you going to make the rest of the design ?

Make one side that looks good, copy it for the other side.
    Forget the computer scan nonsense.
None of the prewar stuff, was originally created using any computer garbage.
Do it the same way they did, draw it and make it.

I looked for dimensioned drawings awhile back, I couldn't find any.

Carve what you want out of foam, from that you can measure and make a buck or a mold.
From the molds you can do all sorts of stuff, make paper patterns for steel, if you make it right you can beat the steel into the mold like a die. Or make the whole thing out of solid wood & a great hammer form.

You know there was no CAD or CNC for Mount Rushmore, look at what they did hanging off a rope. Chances are you'll **** up at least the first one, but so what :)

wex65: I tried the Dales website you posted about 2 weeks ago and got nowhere. I'll have to dig a little deeper, I usually use about a 1/2 dozen a year. I have the bars powder painted semi gloss black for my own builds.
