    A couple, sort of .......

Not really old, registered as a '57 (donor car) and returned to the street in present form in '98 (or so), but rare enough that I certainly didn't see myself going the other way anywhere, anytime.
First year Empi Sportster modified rather a bit now.

Driven daily (I do my projects rolling) for several years and recently sold to make room for a '62 Toad wagon eventually to be an SD (not rare at all, 'til then).

Traded into a '70 Torino Cobra with CJ429. Bench seat with 4 speed, few options. Never got it running and traded for a 350cc Honda. Later bought it back for $50 and stripped the car . Kept the 4 speed sold the nodular rear for $50, traded the car for a '47 International pickup that was pure rust.

1950 Crossley Hot Shot, like a Super Sport. Bought it 15 years ago, then traded a kid for the 41 Plymouth that I still have. Then 4 months later had a chance to buy it back for $500.00 bucks. Didn't have the extra cash. Another wish I hada.

1965 Mercury Cyclone. Black on black, hi-po 289 4 speed. Sold it to pay closing on the house like an ass. Think only 735 produced in that form

Oh Yeah - the Poor Boys were gonna have that one on the road for last years Billetproof.

  9. I have good luck with stuff with between 1000 and 2000 built -

'60 Chrysler New Yorker station wagon - found two, bought one, never was able to bring it home (1300 built)

'53 Buick Skylark - wrecked and upside down in a junkyard, I paid $150 for it. No motor or front frame stub. Sold it to a guy from Australia for $2600. They made about 1700 of these.

'58 DeSoto Firedome convertible. $500 out of a junkyard, complete except some trim. Sold it to a guy from Sweden for $3500 a few months later. About 500 of that model made, like 1200 total for all models that year.

I've got some other somewhat rare stuff - '40 Roadmaster coupe, '42 Hudson coupe, '40 Chevy convertible in pieces, and I've sold a number of ragtops that were originally a lot more common - '53 Chevy, 54 Chevy, '58 Dodge, '59 Plymouth, '59 Chevy, '60 Caddy, plus a '58 Chevy Sedan Delivery. I'm sure I'm leaving stuff out, too.

The first car I drove for myself was my dad's '70 Gran Prix manual trans car - one of 327 or so with a 4-speed. Wish I knew where that was, last rumored to be around Rochester somewhere, painted corvair yellow with some minor damage on the left front. I think the last time I saw it it had Cragar mags on it too.

OK, I'll throw my hat in here...
First car was a Jag XK 140 SE. The SE meant it had knockoff wheels and the "E" type cylinder head. Always loved the "V" windshield. My Pops had it sitting around....

Few years later, my daily was a 1970 Mercedes 280SE, and I get a chance to "acquire" an Alfa. Didn't know what type, but it was the Mom of a girl I dated in High School. They were filthy rich and she reminded me of Sofia Loren (MILF Alert!). She tells me-"I have this old wreck of a car, and I don't know what to do with it...Do you want it?" I figured, why turn down a cute little Alfa from a gorgeous woman? I go to have a look at it, and it's an Alfa Montreal. I got a little weak.....some TLC and I'm a 22 year old gulf war veteran driving an Alfa Romeo Montreal on the weekends.

I've been really lucky with cars.....
BTW-these are not photos of MY cars, just for illustration...

You mean you were a 22 year old Gulf War veteran driving around in a woman's car?:D

The Jag I'd love to have, but the Alfa you can keep.....or if you really loved me, you'd turn it into a cute lil pencil holder.:D

Well, I don't own this, but I'm dealing with it for a very long term and respected friend/customer.

1926 Stutz Model AA Vertical 8 Roadster. Rare wire wheels, OHC, twin ignition, juice brakes, and a "worm drive" rear axle. At Hershey this year the response and reverence toward this car was almost alarming. It's a real fun car with ostrich leather and a rumble seat. The international Stutz historian from England thought it was a "put together car" made of different years, but appologized once I let him climb all over/under/number check the thing. "Quite genuine..." in a hard brit accent. The owner is getting up there in years and wants something easier to drive. I can't seem to find a picture of another let alone the real thing. Check it out...

I bought a '80 something Yugo GVX, for $1.00, sold it for $100, 2 weeks later it was involved in a shooting....It was really rare because it had 165,000 miles, most didn't make it to 50,000. Actually I just got rid of a '64 Olds Ninety Eight 2 door, that was loaded, white, white and greenish interior, the front end was wasted though, i got the engine from it for a future project though.

Actually now that you mention that I remember that. There were 500 of the black and gold special editions made. Alot of them seem to have survived and you'll see them on ebay from time to time. Like you said though, the special edition was just a trim package and there was not that much different about them.

They guy who got the Montreal as an "old wreck" got a killer deal. I can't remember how many of these were made but it wasn't very many.

Also, I had a Yugo once. Somebody gave it to me and I got off a plane after a buisness trip in Dallas and drove it back to El Paso. By the time I got home, I decided I did not want to own a Yugo and sold it for $300.

The Stutz "vertical 8" was a very cool engine/chassis. It was incrementally updated until Stutz went under in 35/36. The final variation being the famous DV-32 head which was double overhead cam with 4 valves per cylinder. Overall very sturdy, dependable, and high performance for it's time. This Stutz Blower would look good hanging in front of that radiator. Good for a 40% boost in HP when engaged.
