Not really rare but a 1967 435hp, 427, 4 spd Corvette coupe was about the most fun non-race car I've owned. After blueprinting the engine with aluminum OC heads,500cfm carbs (3), L-88 pistons and 3rd design cam, lowered factory springs, sway bars, Koni shocks, and headers into outside exhaust it was the only car we've owned that "scared" my wife when she drove it. She sold it to pay bills while I was hospitalized in 1988 and still regrets it to this day. It was the only car we've owned that wouldn't blow her hair out of place with the windows down no matter how fast you were driving.:)

    My Dad owns two 1953 Corvette's #18 and #207 out of 300 produced. Payed $300 for #18 in 1963 and $700 for #207 in 1961. Still has em" !

  3. Had a 1933 Delahaye coupe and a 1930 Amilcar over here. Both basket cases.
At the other end of the scale In 1978 i imported a brand new T/A 6.6 Trans-Am with a Muncie 4speed into Australia. I was told it was the first '77 / '78
manual gearbox Trans-Am to go to Australia as the dealers only imported Automatics.

Well since there's others from this time frame, my personal "most rare" was a 1969 Boss 302. It's the only car I ever owned that I truely miss. With just under 1700 units produced I guess that's the one for me. It had no options other than an FM stereo. Everything about that car was just right, seating position, 4.30 locker, modded to Ford Motorsport autocross specs and a blue printed motor. I routinely shifted the lil small block well over 7K. I'd estimate ETs in the low 13s to high 12s. I sold it to buy a house. Pic not mine, but quite similar. And to you "Stutz guys", the roadster's for sale.

I had a '67 Pontiac Beaumont SD 396/375hp. The Canadian equivalent of a Chevelle SS. Driving it in Detroit once and a guy pulled beside me and yelled "What kind of Shee-vell is that?"

Actually, production numbers for the 4 dr hdtp in '57 are as follows:

    210 4 dr hdtp 16,178
    Bel-Air 4 dr hdtp 137,672
    Corvette 6,246
    Nomad 6,103

In '57, the Nomad was the lowest production passenger car in the Chevrolet line. In '55 and '56, the Nomads had the second lowest passenger car production numbers, second only to the Corvette.

Honest Not to pick a fight....... but options and paint codes don't make "rare" unique perhaps but not rare. Production #'s are still production #'s
I you have a 4 door whathis with the only dealer installed ''Grabber stripes'' it's still just one of 400,000 produced

Just curious since I owned one each and don't know the stats.
How many '65 Sunbeam Alpines were built?
    '57 TR-3's?
    Probably more than '60 ElCaminos?

no but owning a car sponsored by some of the soon to be greatest mass exterminators on the planet does. ;)

  11. In 1968 I bought a 64 Olds Jetstar I, they were a Starfire with the trim removed, looked much cleaner almost like a Grand Prix. This one had a FACTORY 3 speed on the tree. Dark green with lighter green interior, chambered pipes and factoory Walker Continentals made for a great sound. Great hiway car, would be awesome on power tour. Sold it a year later.

  12. Back in the 1970s had this 1951 DeSoto first year two door hardtop with the air conditioner unit in the trunk, and the clear plastic tubes in the back window. Don't know how many of this model they made.

Also had (never got it running) a 1950 Dodge Wayfarer one seater convertible.

And for a while had a 1955 Chrysler New Yorker Saratoga two door hardtop with a continental kit, wire wheels and a hemi. Kept the wheels which are
still on my 47 Plym convert.

They only made a little over 15,000 of these ragtops in 46, 47, 48 and first few months of 49.....a little over 5000 per year.

In the spring of 1968 I bought of a new car lot a new 1967 Barracuda fastback for nearly used car price.
When I took it in for service they told me I hade modified the car ? ( I had not ).
Here it had W2 heads on a 273 with a Holly carb, and a dual coil dual point dizzy. latter after I had sold it, I found out it was a pre production mule car, whick explains why it was 1-1/2 years old on a new car lot. It probably was or is worth a lot of money now.

I also had a 1969 Z28 Gt1 road race car that was a documented race car from the factory. It even came with all log books and documents from day 1. I bought it for $1500 and sold it off the trailer for $2500 to fund my 58 Bug eye sprite build. 3 months latter it was for sale in Victory lane for $40,000 because of its history. I should have learn't to do my homework first?????

Started my own buisness after that and have not had anything interesting since????

I am the original owner of the last altered roadster drag car built by the LOGGHE STAMPING CO. If that isn't rare enough consider that it is powered by an inline Ford 300cid six with a factory experimental one-piece crossflow cylinder head.

such a common place collection ;):D

does the Arnolt still have it's supercharger? and how is it to drive compared to an average, mundane TD? you know you could also post this over on that "other" thread and tell us all about a real "hopped up" TD. :)

Don't shoot, but when I was 19 and drunk I bought a 1982 Lada 1500 S. Russian car. I think I know what the "S" stood for. Bought it from my ex-boss on a Friday and the fun began by Sunday. Long story short... I paid $3500 for it (yeah, he saw me coming) and sold it two and a half years later for $100. I was damn glad to get it. Six wiper motors, seven voltage regulators and an engine later someone dumber and drunker than me bought it for parts. Last I saw of it I was taking a wizz behind a shop one rainy day and it was sitting next to a big pile of dirt. Two weeks later I ran into the guy who owned the shop. He said the big pile of dirt was no longer there and neither was the car. I'll give you three guesses where the car is. It's been about 20 years now..... wonder how big that sinkhole is where the car used to be .... ?

If you'll look at the bottom of my post, I gave two sources for my information, which agreed with each other. The same information is available elsewhere, such as the Super Chevy magazine website, etc.

In 1955, Corvette production was 674, and Nomad production was 8,386. In 1956, Corvette production was 3,388 and Nomad production was 7,886.

1924 REO sedan shitbox. fully restored in 1979, in a warehouse fire in 1981 and sat.

  25. I still have a few that are uncommon, but not rare by any means:
55 Chev Cameo half ton ( bought it in 1969 )
    65 Comet Caleinte convertible ( 289 4spd )
67 Comet Caliente Convertible ( big block car ) total run ~1250 of which 316 were big block cars.

This made me think of all the beautiful cars I sold and I am going to have to take something for the emotional pain.

I asked a buddy of mine once why so few 55 vetts were made

He told me the T-bird came out and no one knew how bad they were, and made of metal! "No one want our plastic pig" He said

Which brings up the point that sometimes things are rare cause no one wantd one when they were new............

One reason they sold so few Nomads and Safaris. They were more expensive than any other full-size Chevy, they are hard to get in and out of the back seat (I can't tell you how many of my friends have gotten wedged between the front seat back and the B-pillar trying to get out of the backseat), the lift-gates leaked even when they were new, and it's hard, with that forward tilting rear, to reach over the tail-gate and put things in the back.
