Thanks, I was into the engines long before I discovered the cars.

Some really nice Hudsons in this thread of all stripes. Fantastic cars any way you take them.

I'm holding out for a 32/34 Terraplane coupe for the Weberized stroker. If the McCulloch works out well for the '49, I just may huff n' stuff the Webers too. I have an extra bracket!

Nice showing of the Hudson's. Rode in a lot of these Babies

I like the mod's some of the guys did

  4. Right on.

I'm hoping to find a 308 to run in my 32 Ford. It'll make a few people turn their noses for sure, but it's just a 32 4door anyhow. I'll run it under a hood. I LOVE the way a hot 308 sounds. There's really nothing like it.

I wish my Hudson had a Hudson motor in it, but unfortunately, all I got when i bought the car was a body. So, hopefully someday, I'll have a Hudson in my Ford, and a Ford in my Hudson. ha ha.

I've posted these pics before but what the hey.
    49 Commodore 8 with a later(55-56) 308. Clifford head&header,
full flow oil filter,3sp stick and OD. Looking for a 4.11 rear axle to replace the current 4.56 but even the 4.56's have no problem
keeping up with traffic,OD knocks it down to a 3.28.

Thought I'd get this one up top again since I was now able to get some pics of the 51 Hornet I picked up in So. Dakota..... Going to put in an olds 455 W/ 400 tranny and a rear out of a Lincoln Versilles (spelling ? )........ I think I might just leave the exterior as is and drive it just as it is to terrorize the neiborhood :D Big Dan

I don't have a Hudson, but I learned to drive in '62 in a '49 Commodore 6, three on the tree. Yes, it was an old man's car..my old man's car. He also had two convertible's back in the 50's. Every time he asks me why I got rid of my '57 Chevy hardtop, I ask him why he ditched his '52 convertible. That shuts him up. Those cars could take an incredible punishment, I do remember that.

    Here's my 52 Hornet.
Unfortunately this stayed in Detroit and I ended up in SoCal.

  10. big dan, you could use an hydramatic to make the swap to an olds motor easy- hudsons had hydras too. rather than bother with trying to make a lincoln diff work, id look for the later 52-54 bolt on cover axle, it uses a dana 44 centre which you can still easily get parts for today. there are hub and axle upgrades available, disc brakes too.

    From Brisbane Australia.
1948 Hudson Commodore. We only got 4 door cars here and that is where this started.Paul Kelly built this for me.We converted to a 2 door using coupe doors and rear flanks from Bill Albright(is he still alive?),chopped 3 inches.
    It rides on a Holden(GM) chassis,air bags,454 Chev/700R.

  13. Hudsons to cars are like Hughes' was to airplanes. A beautiful car! Its almost like the Merc copied it for success. I hope to have a 52-53 Hornet (2 door) some day. :)

Here's my '49. It has a '77 Firebird subframe and 400/400 combo. The chop isn't low enough for me so I'm gonna chop it a couple more inches or chop and stretch a '60s/'70s GM convert top to fit - as soon as the garage is finished.

How about "the Boilermaker" (aka the HotRod Hudson)? A 1938 Pro-Mod Hudson.

  16. Dig the project. Any chance you've got more pics? I'm in the process of chopping mine. Also, it looks like you've got 54 rockers and rear wheel openings on the car????

Here is a friends car. Not sure year, but I think it's a 49. It was built after the owner saw a Harry Bentley Bradley drawing of the first car she learned how to drive in. It was a Rick Dore build.

I can snap a few pics. What kind of shots do you want? The rockers and rear wheel openings were hand formed using '70s sheetmetal (I can't recall what car was the donor).

I might buy a 37 Hudson Essex Terraplane like this green one in the pic for $ 3,000 this weekend.
Going to go look at it again.
It ran up until last year when he blew a head gasket.
The car has the standard clutch system and also has an electric shift on column if you want to shift there . More less converts it to an automatic instead of stick.
