I have been plugging away for a few months now trying to get my new magazine up and running online, and I think I am close to releasing the very first issue. SWOON MAG will online, quarterly, for you to enjoy by the middle of December. It will go into print by the 3rd or 4th issue depending on the response to the online version. I created this magazine because the 2 magazines I shoot freelance for some times does not necessarily want to run everything I shoot, so this will be my outlet for the things I like to shoot. It will not always be the same as far as content is concerned. I shoot everything from hot rods to old styled lowriders. This is going out on my own dime, so the print run will be limited to around 2000 or so. The premiere issue will include a shoot that I am doing this Saturday with the some of the guys from the Los Boulevardos c.c. and four beautiful pinups. This issue will also run a fellow HAMBer's house.... Royal Shifter. He will be given about 12 pages on his place alone..(if you ever saw it, you would know why). There will be pinups running crazy around his house on the 1st of December. I will also have some old stuff I shot over the years. We will also feature bikes and some builders from over on the JJ side of things. We will run a couple of different bikes I shot at Four Aces Cycle not too long ago, some feature photographers, a few bands every now and then, and whatever I think might interest you. We will take one or two submisssions per issue. I won't run tech stuff because you can get that from TRKI...they do a good job of it there. The magazine is called Swoon because there will be a lot of girls used in the issues and I will feature about 3 girls per issue. I hope you enjoy it because I know I will enjoy putting this out for you. Here are a few samples for you...let me know what you think:
Nice work Dave, I'm glad you decided against your original idea "bare chested grease monkey boys".... does this mean I get the pictures back or what?!?!?
I dunno, Dave, whenever I take my time, the gals ALWAYS have a big smile. Something about the little man in the boat...
I do have shots of them smiling....I promise. Those were shot in Vegas at the Rod Reunion, and I had to shoot them looking into the sun to get a clean background. Thanks for the input, and I will remember this when laying out for the final issue
Are you offering to edit? (Nice job above). I was typing last night after work when my brain was about three steps ahead of my hands.
I would like to thank all of the guys from Los Boulevardos c.c. for bringing out their cars for the shoot this past saturday. You are some patient guys for waiting on the inside shots to be done first. I will post up a few pics later today for the HAMBers. We will also go through a name change for the magazine because of some copyright and TM issues. Evidently, even if you buy the TM for the name, you still can't use it if someone has been using it longer. I am looking at a January release for the hard copy, and the online version will go up in December. It will run about 10 to 15 pages more than the print version. Damn print prices have to keep my page count down to around 70 pgs. per issue. Have a good one HAMBers
Did you say "used girls"...or "girls used"... ...??? Now that I think of it, what's the difference...??? Good luck with that enterprise...and make sure you get a GOOD editor...nothing worse than a mag (or online) with copy that isn't spelled correctly...and follow up on the punctuation too... R-
