I have seen this Plymouth street freak on the site some where and am wondering if anyone has any additional info/pictures on it? I am not the best with computers so I hope the picture shows on this post. If not just think solid axle, steam rollers out back and a few inches on the biggest street freak you have seen.

Were they called "street freaks" back in the late 60s-early 70s when lots of them were built?
Used to see lots of early-mid 60s Novas done like that along with many Mopars, but not many Fords.

Ron you are awsome! You came through with some killer pics of the satellite. I cannot thank you enough. You see one of my best friends is building up a satellite. It is a 383 4-speed car and he is going the keep it stock route. I can respect the stock look but deep down know the g***er/street freak look honestly heats up my blood and makes me freak out. I am trying to gather enough pictures and info to sway my friend to the dark side of old school hot rodding. I attached this picture of his car on blocks in the garage because I joke around all the time with him that he already has the car in the right place and just needs to break out the welder and econoline straight axle to get it just right. So anyone else out there with info on this totally awsome Plymouth raise your hand and help infect my friend with g***er madness!

"Street Freaks" came about in the 70's, I think Car Craft magazine started calling them that, maybe they didn't create the term but they sure promoted it. I don't remember PHR using the term and Hot Rod was too busy with vans and mini-cars.:( I remember seeing a lot of Corvair and Mustang "street freaks" in the magazines back then as well.

PHR used the term also but not as much as Car Craft did.

I like seeing these cars again (you eather love em or hate em). I just hope the Lost Sheep crowd doesn't hitch there wagon to so called "street freaks" and make a mockery out of them lke they have traditional Hot Rods.

    We don't need Rat Freaks.......

Being a teenager in the late '70s, that was the look. Jacked up in the rear to clear the tires, ladder bars and a hood scoop. Ahhhhh... the strange old days.

I'm waiting to see what the Lost Sheep do with the current g***er craze. I'm predicting cars at least 6 feet off the ground and rear wheels moved forward into the door area for starters. Oh I can't wait.

Being a young kid in the '70s and seeing these types of cars all over town i Really dig on seeing them make a small come back.

My uncle & the other "OLDER" kids in town had '55~'57 Chevys, GTOs, & Falcons set up like this... Was Very cool when you were a kid & seeing this stuff.

ON THE OTHER HAND.... Reading this post makes me wonder.

Where do you think hot rodding would be if everything ever built was SAFE ?

I see people whinning about HANDLEING & STOPPING..

I see people talking about the SPRING MOUNTS.

Have any of you guys actually SEEN a real Drag car from the '50s or '60s or even the '70s ?

Yes i know, ive heard a 1000 times about TECHNOLOGY ADVANCEMENTs.

But it is what it is !!

Some say its a piece of ****.... looks like a nice car to me.

Not some worn out S/B Chevy powered **** box '39 Ford truck cab on a cobbled up 2x3 tube frame with 22" kick up & a 140 inch wheel base Rat Rod (yea, i said it) that you all think is safe cus it has a second hand set of disk brakes & an S~10 rear end with a dual master cylinder.

I think more people need to do some research on the history of Real Hot Rod before they open there Pie Hole to talk **** on a car that actually could have been Runnin around the streets on any given time frame.

Or just go back in the shop & keep working on that Rod that in 30 years some one will say ::
"" Man, them guys in the late '90s & early 2000's must have been on some good stuff... those Rat Rod things are Dangerous piles of **** .. Why would anyone use a truck cab & no fenders to make such a long Dune Buggy ?""

The biggest difference between then and now in one word

    LAWYERS !

  24. Regardless if you like it or hate it the builder accomplished one thing for sure....people noticed it. The fact that we are here talking about it means alot! Its like the show biz world, there is no such thing as bad advertising! I dig it in a weird finger pointing way although the second Mopar is more to my liking.

I think it is neat looking. I would not want to drive it but it does show a space in time where that was one way to build a car. I would not drive any of the g***ers I see either and I put this in about the same category. Neat to look at but not for the street.

My take on the safety aspect of a street freak / g***er or any modified vehicle for that matter is that it can be as safe as you build it. Sure g***ers have a wild ride height but if you parked it next to a truck it would not look so sky high except for the fact that it is a car. Solid axle suspension systems don't handle the best sure but they are not ticking time bombs. They still use em in some rigs and dumptrucks. That big yellow bus your kids ride to school has a solid front axle. It's all in how you install the modifications. If you put big meats out back and little skinnies out front you might wanna proportion your brakes correctly. As for welding in spring perches and all other welding build it beefy. Crawl under your old truck or look at how the parts were installed in the vehicle you ripped them out of and weld up a beefy copy.

All that jibber jabber of safe or not safe aside I think we all agree that these street freaks are wild to look at and get you thinking. I am thinking DAMN I NEED TO SEE SOME MORE OF THIS PLYMOUTH!
    -what axle did he use?
-what are the springs out of?
-is it a 4 speed car?
-Basically this is one of the top 3 coolest cars I have ever seen and need to know more about it because I cannot sleep

  29. Amen, this car is bad***.
