just got my 38th TRJ and it was tagged "your last issue" and the price went up on the cover 2 bucks to $14.95 Hey I'm just like one of the cigarette smokers (haven't smoked since they went up to .25 a pack june 6 1960) I don't care what it costs I'm in. I was raised in Pasadena and Blairs Speed Shop was a daily stop. his used parts were the best deal in town. there no swap meets, computers. hell L.A. only had one T.V. station KTLA and it only came on after 5 p.m for about 4 hours. had to get there every day and check the prices on new old ****. still pissed that John Carlson beat me to those Ardun Heads. it was a good read, the only thing that jumped out was "the same location since 1945" that was really Don's third location, he started on arroyo parkway. then down the street on foothill, then daisy and foothill in the mid 1950's. but thats nit picking a great Hot Rodder, Racer, Mentor and Friend. TRJ thanks for the memories, I'm now in Portland And Tindlle's Orange Crate are good Memories also Checks in the Mail keep them coming. it's the subscription I'm renewing..........Jim
I hope my first subscribed issue is in the mail today...while I may not have any stories from back in the day, and I never had any speedshops to hang out at as a kid, the Orange Crate and TRJ still affect me the same, straight down to my core...I wouldn't trade this addiction we have for anything...TRJ guys, keep the flame bright.
Good issue. The Orange Crate will always be my favorite from the 60's. I remember seeing it at the Winternationals Car Show with my Dad. I think it was at the LA Sports Arena, maybe in '62 or '63. Had the model, too. I drive by Blair's almost everyday and never ignore it as I go by. I still look at it with respect. I used to buy alcohol fuel there as a teenager for a four-banger Crosley dragster in '64-'65. It's a bright spot in my day to see Phil's A roadster pickup parked out front everyday...
How can you not be a big fan of TRJ. I was pretty excited to see a car that my dad built in the 60's made it in the magazine, the '29 Model A pickup in front of Blair's that he sold to Phil, but was a little disappointed to see that the article said Pete Eastwood helped build it from LA Roadster Show swap meet parts. Maybe they altered it a little with swap meet parts. This is what it looked like when my dad owned it.
TRJ is a special book done up by special people... Big news coming from them either this week or next.
I have every issue. They are great. Every time I go through one of the older issues you find out what timeless means.
I just love TRJ, even thou they just raised the price for non US Customers from $119 up to $135 for a 2 year subscription !! I ordered it anyway, what the heck
Still waiting for this issue....anxious to see the Orange Crate feature......which is funny, since I'm in the same CC as the owner Ted, yet haven't seen it in person. TRJ has it's issues with their delivery times of the mag and it's merchandise, but the features in the mag are second to none......
I just renewed my sub last night for two years = $75. Get it while you can before your sub expires and you have to pay full price.
TRJ is the BEST ... I have one of every issue ... and a few spares of the " MUST HAVE " issues. Just renewed my subscription @ the NSRA Nationals in 2007 .. plus I was the high bidder on the TRJ auction on the HAMB ... a little while back. I would imagine that the cost of printing has driven the cost of the magazine up. .
In 12 years- you know it has! I just paid 6 bucks for the latest Hot Rod- what does that make one issue of TRJ worth?
I quit buying Hot Rod a few years back ... and let my subscription lapse for Rod & Custom when you left ...
Still waiting on mine....Can't wait....Barnes had yet to get them here, but it takes forever to get stuff here....Love the mag...very special and worth it.
I have them all too. I bought the first five or so from Mooneyes. Then I had a subscription for the next dozen or two until shiipping irregularities scared me off from re-subscribing. Now I buy them from a local newsstand. Wouldn't miss it.
greastest magazine on the plannet....however...I have to watch for it because my mail woman will fold the thing in half and put it in my mailbox...I stopped her from doing that and asked for her to put it on my porch....she now puts it on my stairs instead....and the last two issues were caught in the pouring rain.....I bought the "other covers" at barnes and noble....pissed I did, but still bought them.....I'd love to see TRJ put these in plastic first, then in the cardboard envelope....also....It always seems that the mag is on the stands before it hits my "stairs"..... sometimes by 5-7 days (working days)... oh well, good things come to those who wait
The last issue I got was in plastic inside the cardboard envelope... seems I heard this was gonna be standard practice from now on? Reminds me I need to re-up.
really?????? maybe they had half plastic, half not.....looks like I got the short end of the stick ("again")
You have NOTHING to complain about. The Rodder's Journal has been $19.95 in Canada for a number of years now and it still is even with the Canadian dollar being worth more than the US dollar.
Back when my issue #1 fell apart at the seams, the gang at TRJ sent me a fresh copy....it's still in the package, and my "reader" is "loose leaf" I'd buy TRJ every week, even if it was fifty bucks a copy.
Borders ,Barnes&Noble are the same chain. I found this out While visiting relatives in New Hampshire. While getting my money the cashier noticed my Barnes&Noble membership card and gave me the members discount price. On returning home I checked on my next trip to Barnes&Noble and they also honor the Borders cardholders price.OH ya they both carry TRJits what I was after in New Hampshire!
Yes,but the US price just increased, but not the Canadian price.THANK YOU,RODDERS JOURNAL.Price difference is in shipping and tariffs, according to Zombie from Rod and Kulture.
