Bid Dad,I live for this stuff!A/FX Mopars are my passion. The fact that I have whats left of one out in the yard doesn't hurt ether.
After studying the four pictures you posted i see what you meen. I never noticed before but the picture of the car doing the wheelie does not have a straight axle and the front is all the way forward. That is Mr Norm driving the car at Union Grove and from what he has told me, that picture was taken early on. And I see the two different Rams and the lettering on the car/cars veries in position. Maybe there is some truth to the story of there being two sedans!?
The article that goes with this picture appears in December 65 Super Stock and they state that as of this writing that Mr Norm has puchased the Color Me Gone car, which is right because Dyer set the 8.63 record in early November of 65 at Lions. But look at the Autolite and Holley decals on the front fender. It looks to be the same fender as the car doing the wheelie!? And again, you can see the different shapesof the ram horns and legs.
Finally there is someone else that See's what I'm saying!Straight axle how far north are you?If you ever get down south in Co. we will have to get together for a couple of beers and a b.s. season.Or if I get up your way.Dean
Correct me if i'm wrong but i believe Stricklers car had a 66/67 charger roof graphed on to it in the late 60s and this is how it was when Steve Atwell found the car and restored it a few years back. Do you have any pictures of that?
Something else to throw in the mix: From a car show in Kansas City circa 1980. I don't remember a single thing about it (shoot, I've slept since then), but maybe the quad headlights are a clue. However, it did have the "required" pro-stock-style scoop!
This is believe it or not the Ramchargers 64 2% Hemi!It was sold and became the West Virginia Hemi see photos, it's being restored back to it's 64 Ramchargers version.
Holy smoke, I'm going to have to find some more obscure cars to throw you guys off! Unfortunately, I have billions of flopper pics, but not that many A/FX shots.
My parents lived on allen road in southgate for 25 years about a mile south of ramchargers taylor mi . They widened the road in 1968 and the manieaks in the evenings would run the cars. door slammers mostly occasoinaly funny cars on the road , sounds crazy dosent it , but it happened . Detroit drag way was 2 miles south . It was quite the place to grow up. A friend of mine Wally has one of their inclosed traylors and a Ramchargers funny car tied in the cealing of his building. In the old days a lot of fuel racers hung out there when they were in town. oh yes and chysler engineers and designers. Thanks for helping me recall these memories . Me being a Ford guy I almost forgot to mention the chrysler guys. Dan
And finally "out there". Dragon, do you remember seeing/hearing this one? BTW, this was the August, 1966 issue.
That looks a lot nicer than I remember them. I love this shot (seen it before). Looks like the timer's shade wing is on the race car
I 'am trying to find the Picture of the A.W.B Charlie Allen Car racing Dick Landy. When I find it I will Post it!
Y'all know what happened with the Petty car, don'cha? I've been on a site recently that had the single most unbelievable collects of photos of this era cars I've ever seen. It's some guy who uses them just for reference building models. He got in trouble for it a couple of years back, got that taken care of, but now I've lost the site address. He has hundreds, if not thousands, of these type photos. I have some previously unseen shots of the "Yankee Peddler" '66 cuda, Faubel's '66 Dart, and a bunch more, including the '67 Chi Town Hustler cuda, with Austin Coils back side in the shot.
