We're going to try something a little different this time.. the first two art challenges were great successes.. so lets see if we can screw it up, right? This time it's not a specific car as much as it's a theme... TRANSPORTER Ryan has been writing a lot about vintage racers on the JalopyJournal recently.. so I had this idea. What do you do when you have to get that wild FED or vintage racecar or whatever non street legal thing to the track??? What's the coolest possible way? So this is a 2 part challenge.. what do you haul with.. and what do you haul?? I had a few comments that there wasn't enough time on the first 2 challenges.. and since this is a 2 part deal.. it'll go for 4 weeks instead of 2, so the deadline will be December 7, noon. a little inspiration: HAVE FUN!
You know it's funny, but I've been thinking about this very thing all morning ... looks like I'll have to participate this time.
Not mine, but I just took this picture last weekend. Just thought I'd throw it out there for more inspiration.
For a TON of inspiration try this link. And just a sampling of what is there.... http://forums.autosport.com/showthread.php?threadid=63980&perpage=40&display=&pagenumber=1 I am a particular fan of the Kieft transporter and the Lotus transporters. Not to mention the Mercedes and Ferodo, looks like a Dodge(?).
Does this qualify as a transporter? Here's the build site. Warning, not for dial-up. http://cardomain.com/ride/340096/5
sure! that's probably all the reference we need guys, I don't want this to turn into a "post a picture of a cool hauler" thread.. LETS DO SOME ART!
This seemed like a Challenge you could have some fun with, so I whipped this one up last night while watching TV! It's a sort of goofy take on a somewhat far-fetched mode of transporting an older funny car around, but it was a fun concept to illustrate, anyway! In the spirit of a Hot Wheels toy, I came up with a pretty generic looking 70s funny car from an era when they still carried creative names on their flanks instead of blatant corporate sponsorship. I dubbed mine the "Blue Tornado", after an obscure Dirk Benedict movie and a weather phenomenon known to pilots, and parked it inside of a matching gigantic flip-top van bodied transporter! What better way to haul your vintage disco-era flopper around than to hide it inside of a hulking "funny van"?! Sure the mechanics of it would be a nightmare...and it'd be a wide beast as well...but possibly a rear-engined design with a transaxle, a radiator mounted in the flip-up body with flex hoses at the rear and some sorta "fly-by wire" steering arrangement just MIGHT make this thing a reality?! Ha Ha..who knows? It was all in fun...and I wouldn't be shocked at all to see it in the small die-cast line-up from that giant toy company within a year or two now...alongside the "Dragtor" for 2008...Ha Ha...where have I heard THAT name before?!
Always thought these cabs were very cool but a bit out of proportion but then again, maybe that's what makes them so cool. Quick & very dirty photo-section...
oh, i was thinking about this.. and I don't want to add new rules.. but.. Barry posted that trailer poopin that little ragtop, and I said that idea would qualify.. but I think if you were going to do that you'd want to add whatever is pulling the trailer, so it can actually go.. if that makes sense.
I will apologize now for them being "VWs". Not exactly HAMB material I am fully aware -- but it's all I had.
cool stuff so far! remember.. this is for the art guys to exercise and it is a contest, please don't post pictures of cool haulers unless it's your own art. carry on! nate
Nothing too terribly unusual this time around...just a guy haulin' his kid's little racer to the local track for a little spirited Saturday afternoon competition! Keeps Junior off the streets in his crazy cart and gives him a little extra room to haul gas and tools to the fairgrounds and a trophy or two home in the back of dad's old shop truck!!
4 weeks? Right on Dude! (Wringing hands and smiling evilly) This one will be fun! This is going to require a huge prize! Say like...a left nut! I mean a left handed nut to fit my crescent wrench! I am going to pull the plug on my computer and dust off my #2 pencils! Good luck all!
Ha Ha...not that I'm worried about winning, but I'll pass on the prize currently being offered if I do!! Did another one just to help keep the ball rolling here, a modified 46 Ford motorcycle hauler! Had to modify the roof, rear quarter windows and a few other things, but she went together okay! A feller could have LOTSA fun with this Transporter theme we're working on this time around...can't wait to see some more posted up here!!
