Well here is my final project. LOL. I swear it is. I picked this thing up about 2 weeks ago. Seen it through trees in some guys yard. It's a 1956 DKW Auto Union Schnellaster. Basically an old Audi Van from Germany. The guy who I got it from said his father imported 9 of them back in the 60's and doesn't know where the other 8 went. With some research on this odd ball, even in Germany, this van is extremely rare to be in this good of shape and was told never to customize it. YA RIGHT!!! Besides it being unique, I love the potential cause it is ugly and ugly in my book in top notch. Instead of explaining my plans for this beast, I have a photochop pic of the direction it will be going. My main goal is to make this into a hauler that I can tow either my car hauler or camping trailer when needed. Best part is, I even traded a 1986 Astro Van with no engine and ****** for this Van. The guy just wanted his shed replaced. LOL. Hope you like.

Here is the motor that was in it. A 3 cylinder 2 stroke that isn't seased.

That looks like a fun project to build as an early "surfer" wagon.

That thing looks like a barn door bus with Dodge panel wheel arches, wild!
Do it up! I'd wallpaper the whole "panel" area with your logo though. From above the rear wheel arch, over the beltline up to, almost, the drip rail. I'd leave the whitewalls off too and do orange steelies with little caps, but that's just me I 'spose.....

  7. I think it would look nice if you moved the rear axle forward a bit, and removed the mirrors. Oh, and iron crosses are SO five minitues ago.

Wouldn't surprise me, being an Audi, that those are Volkswagen headlight bezels...

LOL, I know what you mean about the Iron Cross, but it has more meaning cause of the red baron cause the van is German. The red baron flew a Tri-Plane Fokker, so thats the theme I'm going for as a Fokker Repair Van. Plus you can't beat using the word Fokker and being legit with it.

I'm working on getting the original mirrors as shown in this pic. Where those big ugly ones came from, who knows, but the are GOING!!!

As for the headlights, I'm checking in on the VW end of it. If they are the same, then sweet cause I need the lenses that mount to the hood.

  17. So ugly it's cool. Some 2" chrome lake pipes might look cool running down along the sides.

Maybe turn it into a pie wagon:

    Mother Fokker's would work. Hahahaha.

Ya, the window van version isn't as cool and the pickup is even uglier. If it has a proper bed, then I can see fixing one of them up.

Correct me if I'm wrong, wasn't Fokker actually Dutch? "Albatross Repair" might be better. Although by 1956 I'm pretty sure the Luftwaffe was probably using F-86s.

I love those "don't ever customize it" types. I have an uncle who basically hates me because I "destroy" so many of what he thinks are beautiful cars, once he found out I had a model A sedan that I was going to hot rod he made sure to tell me to just sell it to somebody that actually cares about the car and not to destroy it like model A sedans are rare or something.

Not sure on the Dutch thing, so I won't correct ya on that, but since day one, all Germany planes where Fokkers til the second world war I believe.

As for the motor, it's not seized. Turns over very easily. Planning on ebaying it to the highest bidder cause I don't know what it is worth.

LOL, hey why not. I'll admit, I don't know all the history, so don't quote me on any of this German stuff. I'm learning as I go and today is another day.

Neat van, swoopy front end. It'd be pretty cool with a little camping or tailgating setup in back.

Personally think it's wheelbase is all wrong to build for towing or hauling. And I also think the audi guys are only a few footsteps behind the porsche guys. If they're saying keep it stock, it's value in 10 years might make ya weep for cutting it up. Not advocating either way, just pointing that out. Good luck with it.
