My advice is to pick a base of your choice and use a flattened clear coat. Depending on how you mix the clear, you can achieve flat, satin, or semi-gloss. Plus you have the option of a million bases to choose from.

Search Clark's posts for his paint techniques and the brand of clear he used on his trucks (it's been rehashed several times)--his cars glow w/o gloss.

The guy with the green truck says he did not clear it. I am wondering why not?. Wont the paint fade faster and not hold up? I am no ainter by trade but I have done a couple of cars in the past a 41 Plymouth Coupe Low Gloss black and a IH but it was single stage Blue ish Green..But I never done any base coat clear coat . I am going to borrow my friends booth for the weekend when i finish the body work.

We've done it a lot of ways and basecoat with PPG flex and flat clear is the best. The other trick is the color. Pick one with lots of pearl.

Go with 2 coats of clear. 1 is not enough...will leave streaks. 3 is a waste of material.

This is the truck I had seen down at Hershey this Fall. It is what made up my mind to do a nice suede green on my 39 Ford

I did this. Green base with regular ol clear. used lacquer thinner instead of reducer and shot it real dry.Sorry about the pic, all I had was the magazine it was in. I did the same with the gold on the tudor. it works real well as long as you are careful to spray it dry.

The blue truck is mine. The green car was Fatabone's (Jr).

The clear I use holds up to wether good. My truck is a daily driver and stays outside all year. It's starting to show it's wear with scratches, rust and etc. But the paint is holding well for the abuse I put it through.

"Flex and Flat" is the name of the clear. You should be able to tell any PPG rep that and they'll know what you want. They may think you're crazy but they'll know what it is. :)

This was done with paint from TCP global. My next one I think I will go with PPG products though

Can't tell you a thing about my car except Clark built it. The paint and the overall look is what took my breath ( and a Certificate of Deposit  ) away. In low light and street lights, the car lights up..love it...here you go !!
