So, Really ?? You think i have deep pocket ?? :D

That my Friend is the under statment of the year !!!!! My pockets have Fuckin holes in them.... As do the soles of my shoes due to the fact i would rather spend my last few dollars on Hot Rod parts.

If you dont have the Ability to track down parts, Then yer in the wtong Hobby... You need to get a hobby you can do from the chair in front of yer Computer or couch Cus the Bitchen parts and Cool bodys dont just get dropped off at your front door while yer watching Reality shows or checkin out Paris Hiltons Web site.

Get off yer ass & go find REAL bodys & parts !!

    I own 4 early bodys/cars right now...
'30 Model A sport coupe :: Body cost me $400.00
'31 Steel top Model A truck body :: cost me $300.00
'27 T Roadster pick up :: Body cost me $100.00
'27 Nash Advanced 6 Roadster body :: cost me 2 trade & no money

    Went to a lil swap on monday... Got a 150 MPH POLICE SPECIAL Speed & a 8 g S/W Mid 60s Tach for $30.00...Few Hemi parts for $20.00 ....

What i am so Grumpily trying to say is that if you do a lil research (OLD MAGS & BOOKS ABOUT OLD HOT RODS)
Get up off the HAMB & go look for some nice parts for a good deal maybe thing wouldnt be so Upside Down in the Rod World.

I do know if EVERY TIME some new sloppy Rod pops up here and every one tells the guy
" DUUUUUDE, YER OL SKOOL ROD IS BITCHEN ""
Guys wont go the extra mile to actually build a car that will ALWAYS be cool, Not till the next shit box gets posted.

But it really dont matter, Whatever i say some Nube Hopped up on PBR or some wannabe Who just bought his own '36 International Truck cab is going to tell me i am a GRUMPY FUCKER !!

As for "ITS MY FIRST HOT ROD" That aint any excuse, DO SOME REASERCH & LEARN ABOUT PROPORTINS & WHEEL BASE BEFORE YOU START.

I agree, something needs to be done to that grill, but why be a dick about it? While we are on the topic of proportions, that car in your avatar is way out of proportion. The roof is too low, the car sits too high, the carbs are too high, and those pipes are ugly as f*ck... but who gives a shit? If we all built the same cars, the same way, we might as well be driving yuppie escalades with 24's...

I like Desoto's position. If it were not for him expressing his honest to God feelings about Hot Rods...what they are and where they came from, these hotrods would eventually end up being built out of a catalogue..oh wait I think they already are (myself included). I think of him as the advocate for not putting new parts on old hotrods which we need.

The fact that his car, which I saw at the CHRR, is built from..I'd say 100% original parts, says alot and I think we can all learn from it. He has put my thought about my build back in check. This would not have happened if I had not asked for an opinion.... which is why this thread started, someone wanted an opinion.

I dont think I have ever seen him give his opinion unless they asked for it...which this guy did. Reread the title of the thread for fuck sakes!!!

HAHAHA ... DID YA GET ME ?

HOW BOUT A PIC OF YER VAUXHALL ?

My roof is to low ? Its only a 6" chop

The carbs are to high ? They are just to the top of the cowl with no scoops

It sits to high ? its channeled the width of the frame..6", dropped crossmember & 4" axle and the '26 Chrysler frame is kicked up almost 10" with the spring behind

OHH WAIT.... You must be compareing it to the cars in yer OL STOOL RODZ Mag that are like 1/2" off the ground & have 2bbl carbs on a basically stock 350 Chevy.

Look at yer Old mags.. Circa '58~'61 and you will notice Drag or Drag inspired cars of that era Were Chopped & not overly low & had Radical Pipes

Got any ideas on how i can make my Hemi smaller ?

I got no problems with being brutally honest, but here in the midwest shit aint readily available like it must be in CA .It took me 3 monthes to find a decent 36 truck grill and then it cost me $400 for the grill shell plus shipping cause it was 2 states away!
Monday swap meet ?what the fuck is that? we are lucky to have 3-4 swap meets within 200 miles of here in a year. the best one I seen this year was the Pile Up and there was like 12,000 people there if there were any deals like De Soto speaks of they were gone before 95% of the people even got thru the gate. Now I Know why most of the cool shit is out west or down south.

Haha, dude, calm down, you're getting a little worked up, aren't you? I was just giving you a hard time for rippin' this guy a new asshole. It was a joke. I actually like your car, (aside from the pipes) and was just showing that everyone has different tastes in cars.

I agree the grill shell is too big and in the pic from the front she does look a bit long so mission acomplished. I like the bullet hole myself (as long as you didn't shoot it in the backyard or something,LOL) as far as fenders why the hell would you want to run fenders? I have a list of parts I need to get for my truck and fenders aren't anywhere on it.

the grill reminds me of a kid I knew in the second grade who lost two teeth in front, but I am jealous, the truck is righteous:)

  13. Here we are at 4 pages, kiddies. Generally, the newbs dig the "Rat rod bobber Truck". The guys with lots of posts mostly don't. Hmmmm. Does this portend a sea change on the HAMB? There are sure lots of opinionated new fellers. And they like the Ol' Stool rodz style. So, will the understated, traditional style cars become the minority on the HAMB? Will the new guys watch and learn or will the HAMB lose its soul? Will rusty dented poorly proportuned rat rods become acceptable here too? Will the new majority make fun of nicely finished cars now? Frankly, I don't think so. Many of us won't post to these type of threads because we think our ideas will fall on deaf ears.

I won't make comments about Primopro's truck. Not to my taste. And it's part of a fad that I don't care for.

  15. EXACTLY! I've always found being a straight shooter, but still positive, won't make someone get discouraged.Negative criticsm is "just wrong".

  16. You only get out, what you put in.

  17. Looks okay to me - except that front does not look like the right scale or maybe it's just the angle of the picture. But then you got to remember "it's what you like" - ENJOY!!!:D

My wife went to the grocery store the other night and surprised me with the latest copy of Car Culture Deluxe magazine. I breezed through it and found absolutely nothing different than OSR. Can anyone on here tell me why the same company makes two identical mag's but with different names ? Just wondering.

    Ok, back to the topic,

1935 on up cars shouldn't be fenderless. They didn't do it back in the old days...they shouldn't be built now.
Not trying to offend you but that truck would look much better with its fenders & running boards put back on.

Desoto, allthough harsh to some at times, does make a lot of sense. If one looks hard enough you will find what you're looking for. No one said Hot Rodding was easy...(unless you're part of certain groups who pay to have their stuff built) .... thats what sets you & your car apart from the rest....individuality....but so many people are indeed missing the boat, and buying the easy to get stuff thats still laying around at every junk yard.
I think spending a little more time in the building process, learning whats really traditional, and hitting the swapmeets before the sun comes up will pay off more.

    Just my opinion.

I agree with this guy--- get off your ass and quit building RRRRRRRRRRat Rods and calling them old Hot Rods....

Few people on this site actually take the time and energy to track down parts and stay away from the catalogs.

You wanted criticism---can you handle the truth??

  23. Are you serious? I was thinking this thing will look funny, but be good experience and practice for my next project.

To help keep this discussion constructive, I've attached a couple sketches. I've been trying to figure out which way to go on this truck, and drew up both ideas. Without getting into the traditional vs. Ratrod thing, I can't see what the big issue is with the fenderless version. With the fenderless design I would narrow the cab such that the cab would be back in line with a '34 cab width. I would like to hear comments on both designs. What you see is the same cab, the same box, the same grille. Unfortunately not the exact same view, but you get the idea. If the proportions are right (I agree whole heartedly that proportions are the biggest killers of these fenderless trucks) and one is not trying to build a traditional car, then what is the big deal - It's not covered in billet, and if the fit finish were as good as can be, is it not a hot rod?

  25. Blackie although I have no problems with fenderless trucks, if done well, for me the second one you posted is the best. It just looks right. I find the fenderless trucks more cartoon like (no offense intended) and the fendered versions more sinister looking. Thye just flow much better. Now I may be a bit biased as I am builing a full fendered truck but you asked.:D

Thank you Blackie!!!! All three versions are Killer and for any new guys wanting to build a truck for whatever reasons there is a perfect example to set as a goal.

Man, I love it....Id definetally be all over it at the drags, a show or would follow it around for a bit on the highway.... The only thing I'd do different (if it was mine) would to paint the headers white, and find some old cal custom scoop for the 4 barrell....(which are just simple personality changes) other than that....f-N-awesome....you should be real proud of your work!
