I went to the preview.....man that was some rough, rusty shit.

I'd be curious what some of it sells for. There were probably 200-300 people previewing it when I was there.

We have been planning the trip for a while now. I am planning to go after work. Dad is there now. His report is not good. There is really nothing in regards to loose parts. They took police tape and taped off between trees and that is considered a lot of parts. Yes there are some 32's, the worst part is they are far from the main drive and you would never be able to "drag" them the whole way through the forrest. These cars have been there for ALONG time. The trees are very large and very tightly spaced. Im sure some people will bring there chainsaws, but trees that size falling could be bad too. There will be a severe amount of work involved to rescue some very thin sheet metal. They do have a loader forklift on sight. Im not saying that its not worth it, There is alot of part availabe, but you might be there till next wednesday getting that K member that is 5" underground. To find out later that it was really a waste of time. Any of you guys going, LOOK at what you are bidding close. All bidding is done from a tent totally separate from the cars, they are just running down a list. C ya there

  24. anyone down there get a chance to take a few pics of the 32 chevy 4 door and the 31 roadster and parts cars, i'd like a few pics if possible, also if anyone could let me know what these sold for. I was supposed to be there, but things changed.

We just got back from the preview in Mitchell, and are not going back for the auction. It's a really sad sight. If any of you are planning to bring a car home, ya might as well forget it. There are only a few late model vehicles that could be pushed or pulled out. This stuff has been there for years and the narrow paths and trees would make salvage nearly impossible without cutting trees and damaging cars. Also, the condition of the cars is so bad that most will fall apart when moved, many of them are so badly rusted that they're falling apart where they sit. There are some salvageable parts, but most are going to be sold in lots. Very few of the cars have much if anything salvageable on them.
If you're close by, it might be fun to see what some of this junk sells for, but if you have to travel any distance, my opinion is stay home. I would be glad to answer any questions to help you decide whether or not to make the trip.
One good thing, I did meet several Hamber's there....

I agree with glenn33 I was very disappointed and I thought myself to be the keeper of lost causes but I wouldn't even touch the stuff there. It is all way past too gone to save. I am sure there are some very few treasures there but not worth me waisting my day on I won't be going back tomorrow. My cudos to their photographer usually you say the picture didn't do it Justice not this time just the opposite! Sad but True. Good luck to those who go hope you find a treasure!

We abandoned the idea of going tomorrow too. We took a look at everything and it is just not worth our time. The 33 truck (that looks decent in pics) was so thin you could push it over and it would easily collapse. I dont know how you could drag that stuff through a football field sized forrest and end up with much besides an overpriced headache! The 5 window looked like it might be a decent one since it could actually be carried out by a few guys. It is bare no frame no floor or firewall. it does have decent 1/4 window garnish too. Good luck to all that brave the forrest. I have talked to alot of people who drove 4-8 hours and more to turn around today and do something better with their weekend. Post up the results when they come in.

What a waste, really a gut wrenching site.It will be total chaos everybody trying to get this stuff out. I overheard the owners talking to a lady from the newspaper, she said she told him to sell it several times over the years, he'd just laugh. Even if there were 10 cars in there that he really wanted to drive , he could have sold the rest of it and had enough money to pay somebody to restore whatever he wanted in this mess. Alot of termite infested wood and barn tin laying around, poison ivy out the wazoo. What a sin this is to hoard all this stuff make and a mess of it. Good luck if you go.

Kustombuilder, if the lights and other parts are inside the Ghia you could probably buy both and have the Oval for free. Early Ghias are pretty hot right now, looks to be pre-59.
