The picture below was posted in the recent "Super Shops" thread.
Personaly, I love the look of the early to late 70's funny cars. You could actualy still tell what kind of car they were, but with a cartoonish bend on reality. My favorites were the Plymouth Cuda's and Plymouth Arrows driven by Don "The Snake" Prudohme.
Anyone else want to share some pictures?

Gas Ronda began drag racing as a hobby. Ronda’s doctor told him to find something to do in his spare time. I don’t believe drag racing is what the doctor ordered. Ronda made his way through the Super Stock ranks until he got his first funny car in 1966. The Russ Davis Ford Mustang makes in our list in number nine. The famed shop of Holman-Moody built the first Russ Davis Ford. That car was replaced by a new West Coast built car in 1967, the one that makes our list.

Gas had a very professional approach to drag racing that made him popular with fans and the press alike. He won many races with the poppy red Mustang, including the ‘67 Manufacturers Race at Orange County. The car ran times of 7.90, 184.04 with an injected engine, despite the stock style body with removable front end and opening doors. By 1969, the car was outdated and was replaced by a newer Mustang.

Here is a Challenger Funny Car my Dad used to bracket race in the late 70's. This photo was taken in Edmonton AB. When they bought it they were told it was the old Diamond Jim Annin car shown above. It was sold to someone in Prince George BC.
Anyone know where it is now?

the '65 ford galaxie was built by the owner of the service center speed shops, sheldon konblatt. his cars were always out of left field, but thats what made the '60's funny cars interesting. imho

  26. Sheldon Kornblatt got the body from Ford after they'd created it for a TV comercial. I think there's something about it on the 60s Funny Cars site.

This is from the "Wild World of Funny Cars" of Dec, 1966.

    Hey Wannabe,
On your post #16 look closely at Lew Arington's Brutus F/C on the lower right corner of the pic. It looks like a glare but,the windshield is fogged up and you can't see through the side window opening.
At about half track the old goggles used to fog up also.
    Have fun,Smokey

  28. '70s cars, huh?

I'll get off the Flying Dutchman-fest shortly, but in the mean-time...

The Charger-III was rebodied as a Maverick after people complained about the "non-production" body, and Al went even faster with the new body! This would have been '71-'72.

    Attached Files:

  29. Al's last two funny cars. He ran the big Mustang in '73 and '74. He only made a couple of passes in '75 in the Mustang II and caught fire, then decided that going fast on water was more safe! The Mustang II, by the way, was on eBay a couple of years ago and surfaced at the FCR as the "Boneshaker".
