Your Dad rasied you RIGHT. It's the thieves that weren't raised right.....I had a feeling that would happen when I found out they were selling from a tent across the street.

That's really a shame that stuff went to hell. We were thinkin' about going but even the pictures were bad looking. We have a farm out in western nebraska we've been getting things out of, it's a mini version of this, the cars are a little nicer but the good stuff got taken years ago. Hope all the guys that went there made out good.

Lot 97 School bus was the place that the guy was trying to get the 32 grille shell out of before it was sold. I don't know if he was able to get the door open or not.

That's the problem for guys waiting honestly to buy the lots and then the good stuff already pilferred. That grille shell would have made $800 a decent deal. No rust on it, but a few bars were bent.

Have a question for you. If you were raised right WHY didn't you report the thieves? They can't get away with it if their reported. They even announced at the begining of the auction that a cop was on site to take care of any problems like this

One cop couldn't babysit that place. Heck, I got turned around walking through it on Friday the way the trails zig-zagged all over the place.

I guess I didn't dig deep enough into the piles. I never saw anything worth bidding on.

No it couldn't be patroled constantly but instead of WHINING about thievery DO something about it and report it. To come in here patting himself on the back for not stealing himself is bull when he didn't have enough balls to report it.

When I was looking in that bus there was a really cool grill shell with a blue and white enamel star on it leaning up against the back...almost drove all the way back for that piece, but didn't think it would make it to auction. There seemed to be quite a few good items in that lot.

    To Phat, and Charlie:

Were you at the auction??? Did you personally *witness* what was going on? If yes, then I could pose the same question: Why didn't you turn in the thieves?? Re: Why I didn't 'turn anybody in,': there was *no* constubalary there to turn them in to that I could see.

My commentary was in no way/shape/form meant to be one of self righteousness, rather one of disappointment/dismay. Perhaps there are some folks on here with a guilty conscience?!?!?!

Yes we were there, but we left at noon yesterday. No I didn't witness this going on or I would have reported it. You say there was no one to report it to. Were you there at the beginning? They announced that a cop was there plus a couple of staff that would be watching things and I saw the cruiser. Even if you didn't hear that you could have reported it to any of the auctioneers people. So your excuse is bull. It doesn't seem to matter where you are anymore there are thieves and unless people speak up they will continue and the more they get away with the bolder they get.

  12. The Star grille made it over to the auction tent where it brought around $300 if I remember correctly. They had a bunch of parts on the ground in lots and started to auction by selling that stuff. I bought a lot of 2 "32 light bars and 6 '32 headlight buckets with some innards.

As for the issue of theft of parts I didn't witness any, but I'm not surprised. I'm with Phat Rat on the particular incident you (kats ass) reported though. If someone had a Deuce shell in hand and was walking off with it then they probably got away with it, because there wasn't one auctioned off, at the start anyway. You can make all the justification you want for doing nothing...but you could have taken some action to prevent it. Not saying you should have confronted the guy but you could have gotten his license plate number and given it to the auction officials.

On a more general note we - the guys in this hobby for life - need to watch each others back. I think all of us have had more than one item sprout legs at our swap space or whatever. If our partners turn a blind eye what the hell good are they?

I heard that George Poteet bought the Coupe body for 15,000 and Jesse James finally got a 32 Vicky for 20,000. Also, Dirty32 missed his sedan so much he called in a bid of 5,000 for the Tudor there. I don't know any of this for certain and could be wrong, but it is just what I overheard........

Hamber Dick Sparado got the Sedan and a Tudor body. Danny (Dirty32) is a Hamber as well.....

Also, just as the Muntz was about to come up for bid, a helicopter landed and Jay Leno got out to bid on it (I guess there is a writer's strike or something so he had some time to kill). I think it went for a half mil, but I am not sure if Jay got it or not. I heard the pope was looking for a new popemobile and wanted to add a big lexan pod to the top of it. Did you know only 50 of 399 Muntz's are left????

I thought Jay had sworn you to secrecy that he was there. No he didn't get it, the Pope did.
Well actually Jay won the bidding but made a deal with the Pope that if the Pope would kiss Jays hand he would give him the car. So the Pope now has it.

The pope wanted to kiss my hand too, but I was afraid that I would spontaneously self combust if I let him.

As for thievery and stuff, I thought is was funny that people were moving shit around and hiding it in "Their" pile. They had 32 firewalls stashed under piles of Junk and whatnot. Well it WAS funny until Clark and I went to check on "our" studded leather thongs that we hid under some BLC headlights in a panel truck and someone had swiped them, we thought that we were the only kinky bastards there. Junior will have to post the pictures, my camera broke and I didn't get a single shot of the whole event.

Sanford and Son did well but I will let them elaborate on that, we are all glad that everyone got into the mindset that everything was junk. For those that didn't come back on Saturday, Thanks! I was sure that everything I bought would have gone for twice what I paid.

Now that the auction is over we will let you in on a little secret, you can BUY all the patch panels to fix a model A or a 32 Ford for the most part. It doesn't matter if the rust is 2 inches high or 5 inches high, the patch panels are 6 inches high and it takes the same amount of work to fix either of them. Were you going to buy a cherry body for 500 bucks, hell no, but the stuff all went for less than the ever popular e-bay prices. Junior got a complete Model A 2 door sedan that is easily fixable with the available panels for 800 bucks, not to mention the slew of roadsters and parts they got.

As for not being able to get anything out of there, BULLSHIT. Two cool kids were in there making 20 bucks a car to pull them down the hill. I don't know of any cars that actually had to have a tree cut down out of them to get them out. Relatively painless if you ask me.

This sale was the most fun I have had in a long time, well since the pileup I guess. I got to hang with my homies, drink beer, spoon with Johnny Sparkle, look at junk, and digging through the piles was like Christmas a month early without the snow......

I am surprised no one said anything yet about the guy that bought a 30 foot stretch of real estate for 1800 bucks and there was a 32 Cabriolet on a complete chassis in there. Yep it was rough, but yes it was buried back in there! Super Cool if you ask me.

    Hey Guys,
I'm a newby here. I would really like to know where some of these cars went or are going. Ya I'm nosey. Anyway, the old caddy camper belonged to my grandparents. Been to Florida a few times in it. Also the old 51 Plymouth #176 came from our farm. It was listed as wrecked but it really set on its side for around 40 years. Also the 57 Fairlane #178 my uncle had bought new. There were a few more cars we used to own 37 dodge #177 and the 37 chevy truck #179. Ole Georgie bought these from my grandmothers auction in 95" they were in really bad shape then. Dont know why anyone would want to buy these just to park and look at. I do know where the caddy camper went, and may try and purchse after the camper is removed. Dont know why, just kinda like it. Enjoyed the day at the sale saturday. Thought some or it brought way to much, and some wasnt to bad. I'm sure you guys that bought the roped of scrap piles will find some really cool stuff. May even be some more cars in the rubble. After saturday, I have kinda got bit by the old car bug, must have sniffed to must rust that day.

Can I let the cat out of the bag and let everyone know who really bought the Muntz?

It was a fun day, until I saw all of bullshit taking place in the woods.. two duece firewalls that would disappear and then magically reappear, then disappear again.

I asked a guy carrying a duece grill how he purchased it when no parts had been sold yet, he said that he found it in a car that had already been sold, and purchased it from the new owner, bullshit.

The parts in there were worth more than the cars.

What a crappy way to run an auction.
