Hey Guys I got this distributor with a 265 SBC. Duel coil, duel point. The gentleman I got it from said it was super cool and super rare. What do you know?
I have one in my 331 cad motor in my 51 f1 ford. well built gm type mech advance . points mid 50s ford 6. napa. your cap and rotor look new. if you dont use it let me know how much.
I ran one on an early Olds a while back good hot predictable spark cap and rotor can cost as much as the whole distributor if you can find them
Anything you want to know about a DuCoil, ask Matt Werksman at Fox Valley Hot Rods. He's on here but his web site is foxvalleyhotrods.com.
The unit consists of two complete but separate 4 cyl ign. systems. one coil and 1 set of points feeds one end of the rotor that feeds 4 cyls and the others feed the other end and the rest of the cylinders. This may change the firing order. It does on some other dual coil systems. You can figure it out but it might take some pencil and paper. Just remember that each set of points only fires 4 cylinders. Trace each set of points and you will have the firing order. It's a cool piece!
Hey DuCoil guys, I've got a tough question for ya. I recently bought a nice rotor at a swap ($2) that looks exactly like the DuCoil plastic casting, except the mount on the bottom is different. Anybody know if they had a design change in the top of the shafts, or did these originally come from some production car? 1928 Marmon-Schwartz straight 8? I know the caps are available from Werksman, but last I heard he couldn't get rotors yet. Would be nice to have an extra.
The '30s-'40s Nash dual coil distributor used a rotor of similar design; maybe that's what you picked up.
if I remember correctly... this is the order I placed mine in the 394 it worked out that one side of the cap fed one bank of cylinders and the other side fed the opposite bank made for a clean plug wire layout at least with my motor edit: might help see what's going on if I include the firing order 18736542 counter clockwise
Early DuCoil used converted stock cap and rotor, at least for Fords. Book I have here says that on newer ones (this is 1960...) "DuCoil now designs and manufactures most components from scratch". What this actually means is unclear. Housings and adapter ring clearly special, I think points were Ford... Cap looks smaller than most of the 1930's big car caps...could it have been special for DuCoil?
IN THE 60-70S WERE SOLD TO MR GASKET CO. IT WAS CALLED D-C DIST. they used GM shaft dia and weight L-R ROTATION. in all . a few different houseings. I made the 331 cad from a FE ford unit . machined it down in the lathe . it is exactly the same. also made one for a 8-BA out of chevy unit .
