The local guy runnin his 240sx is dragging it. It was an imported used one from Japan, stock on the street. He did a bunch of stuff to it but still has the smog equipment since he drives it. I think he is still under 300hp with the legal stuff. The SOHC are a little stronger for longevity just because it has a single timing chain, but the DOHC still is a good one. They made all sorts of changes each year, many other parts are 1 year only. So that is a minor down side.
Oh... That is a different engine.. He pulled the 2.4 Liter and put in the 2 liter turbo engine (SR20DET)... No thanks.. They never sold that engine in the USA, so try to find parts on a Sunday afternoon.. I am not the turbo kind of guy, Normally aspirated engines sound cooler.
I always wanted to build a rod around a the ole ka24, I felt with the torque they made, coupled with a light car, it would make a quick little car for fun around town or on the highway and still get good mileage. Have you shown your itb set-up off to the 240sx community? they'd be all over your nuts like a squirrel a week before hibernation. Anyway I like what you are doing..having owned an old 240sx with ka and sr power I miss the turbo spool and bov, but the ka sounds nice when winding it out. Also good choice with the e85 btw, other than raising comp. what else are you changing to be able to run it? And to answer your original question, I like the valve cover alot..looks much better than stock..just don't paint it pink like many drift 240 people do, for a good oil cap, I ran an hks cap like shown below because it had a kinda maybe industrial look to it, just don't put the logo sticker on it, and it would look fine. Anyway good luck with your project.. Gray
That is the plan, mainly because I already have the engine, and after owning my 240SX for 10 years, I know the engine well. Nope, I don't want to hear all the: A. build me one B. it is a total waste of time, you can't spin a KA fast enough to make power with those etc. C. general negative crap that the young dudes have who's ideas about modification are what ever the magazines are doing (SR swap or a turbo).. I have non-flip up headlights from Japan on my 240sx, but I never post photos of the front end on the internet, I don't want to play 20,000 questions with a bunch of idiots Bigger fuel injectors. I run E85 in my 240sx now. the only thing I changed was the fuel injectors. (I switch from the stock 270cc units to SR20DET 370cc units).. It runs like a raped ape... Gray[/quote] Thanks man. I'll keep hunting for a oil cap.. I have a chrome one on my 240sx now....
I have a stock 2.4 in front of an automatic in my '90 Nissan Pick up and have been really impressed with it. I paid $1450 for it to use a as beater around town hauling parts last year and I drive it everywhere. The truck has over 200K miles runs great. I was really doubtful about the four banger especially in front of the automatic but I wouldn't trade it now for a standard. Mine has multi port fuel injection, gets great milage and passes most other cars and trucks in its class/size range easily.
Also, you have made me want to pull the cover off my engine and head to my friends shop to use the mill.
Hell Yeah! Damn glad to hear it! The Valve Cover on my 240sx is powder-coated black with the letters bare Aluminum... Yes, the SOHC version is a work horse as well! My truck is a '98 Frontier (DOHC) and I'm at 214,000 miles.. I commute 100 miles a day with it, and it is on the original clutch.
Cool motors, and a damn good job on your valve cover!!!! (Betchya most folks will think it's a Quad4 when you're done if you don't tell 'em it's actually a Nissan!!)
Huh? What? You must have mistaken me for someone who gives a shit... That is the greatest thing about the HAMB.. everybody is cool and political correctness is highly overrated
Hot damn, that looks good. Nice job! I wish I could make a center cover like yours, but the spark plug wires go in there...
Thanks Hack! My intent was to make people ask what it is and not let them judge the book by its cover...
I understand totally...I don't miss the 240sx community either, so many dipshits who think that if its not SR then its crap..and thats coming from a person who used to drive an sr 240. the turbo was nice, but the sr itself isn't as tough as a good ole ka. If I ever got another one the first thing i'd do now is stick an ls1 in it and drive it daily picking on ricers. I also got tired of being asked if I drifted it..I hate drifting, I too did the non pop-up front end on mine and stopped posting pics because I kept getting comments about my wheels not being flush enough for everyone else..but they were fine for me.. anyway once again good luck with the rod build and kudos for running the ka on e85 Gray
