Hey guys im new on here, Im starting to make patterns for 50's engines, Im in the process of making finned valley pans for olds, Nailhead, caddy etc. Im planning on making a set of Olds valve covers for early olds 303 324 371 and 394. What kind of style would you like to see on the market. No name finned? Smooth? I hope to do others than just the olds. Id also like to hear what other kinds of parts you would like to see get cast. I'll get some pics of the valley pans when theyre ready for casting. Thanks -andrew

  2. How about a 4-in-a-row (4 2bbl) intake for a sbc - like the Inglese DNCF Weber setup that they used to sell - needs an offset distributor though (or run a front mount setup). They retailed for $650 US - don't know what kind of $$ you could build patterns for and cast a few but I'd buy one or two.

will you make patterns, own the patterns then cast the item? or do you make the patterns as contract work? Tell me how your system operates.

How about a 4 in a row 2 barrel setup for a 324 Olds. Would also like to see some finned valve covers for the same motor. And old style cast Frogmouth scoops for the Strombergs. Flatheaded

We've been saying for years that MEL series Lincoln 430 stuff would be huge. Everybody has dabbled into getting it done but no one has. Valve covers would be huge but I don't know that there is a big enough market for intakes.

348/409 Aluminum 3x2. Love the look but hate the performance of the restrictive stock iron. Nobody makes one to my knowledge.

couple of things, how about a blower manifold for the 394 olds? I had heard of people modifying 2x4 manifolds to make it work, maybe a 2 piece manifold that would work either as a 2x4 or blower, so you have a bigger market.
what about a horning or wayne 12 port gmc/chevy 6 head? If you could do it for the right price, you could sell quite a few. sometimes it is hard to justify a part, when you could build a more powerful motor for the same price.
I say no name finned, or put your name with a nice 50's font on 'em, for the valve covers.
64 and up finned pontiac valve covers would be a hot ticket if you could get the price around $75.00

No name plate finned aluminum pushrod cover for chevy 235 with matching valve cover could make a few of us smile.

ANY newly cast goodies for a 394 Olds is a great idea in my book!

Here's a few other things I'd really like to see someday...

*Aluminum single 4v intake for 348 Chevy engines (std Holley pattern)

*Plain (no name) finned aluminum valve covers for B/RB Mopar

    *4x2 (Man-a-Fre style) intake for AMC V8

*Low/Medium rise dual quad intake for 351W Ford (Carter style carbs)

    *Tri-power for 351W Ford (Holley 94 style)

A 6-2 intake log type for Big Block Mopars, make it a 2 piece so it will work on B and RB engines. Now that would be cool easy also no water jackets to mess with.

The old Frank Burrell aluminum 2x2 intake for flathead Caddy motors is now being reproduced and sold once more. The intake was originall designed by Frank for use in tanks and was made of cast iron, but after the War he got the rights to cast his design in aluminum and sell it to hot rodders, according to a blurb in the latest issue of STREET RODDER. From the picture in the mag, it looks like a nice piece...mounts a couple of 2v carbs and says "Frank Burrell - DETROIT" in the center.

Ha Ha...looks like Christmas came a little early for De Soto this year?! :D

I think that would be pretty cool, i thought about that for nailhead as well, 4 in a row like the old weiands and cragars for early hemi. And i will definately be doing a couple of air cleaners. And i will be doing a crossover for 6x2 olds as well. -andrew

The lincoln valve covers sound like they could be worth doing. Its alot of work to make valve covers, i agree with you on the intake, not enough people to make it worth while.

Early chevy 6 stuff, huge following. Wold that be 235 stuff or 216 or gmc? which would be best?

Dont they make a 348/409 Tripower? They must.

I am neck deep into making some model A stuff of my own, it takes a lot of work and smarts manufacturing a finished project. You got my respect! Someday I will post pics of all the failed pours and worthless patterns it took to make one useable part (which I have yet to do). Charlie Yapp made the pay up front (deposit) and get your parts later, system work for his early runs of riley two ports. I would only consider doing anything but the most common/popular stuff without pre - payment. What people want and what they are willing to pay for are two very different things.

I wouldn't bother with the Olds Valley cover, there must be 3 or so different ones avail, valve covers are a better choice, other then the smetimes avail Offy ones its used stuff only...
Other then that, Offy again do early olds 3x2 still, as someone was saying above there is a shortage of decent stuff for the SBF and a chunk of engines about.

Chebby inline six 250 side plates and intake pluss valvecovers, this is a exalant motor for the freeway and revs high with good torq, the valve cover would fit the 292 as well but you would have to make dif side covers...Roach.
