Disappointing is a gross understatement. My first visit to the turkey run will be the last. I walked non stop for three and a half hours....then gave up. Inspiring???....well maybe humorous.
Its an OPEN show. Sometimes you have to turn the chanel if you are offended. Learn how to walk past them and look for the cool stuff. OR..do what I do, walk the swapmeet. Or stay home.
Did you read my post?....I walked for hours....turned the channel(won't return)....hit every isle in the swapmeet......I give up......and will stay home next time. If I need to look at new cars, there are plenty of new car dealers two blocks from my house. It's called a "Rod Run"....?????....wtf
Hmmm...I thought they didn't let the clown cars in until Sunday? Nevertheless, you should have been able to find the HAMB,Poor Boys, DragLinks, Rumblers guys out by the lake. I'm heading over there tomorrow myself. Mike
Yup that's the problem with Open shows, your gonna get a hell of a cross section of cars, and since it was a rainy day I bet some cars stayed home. Up here a good show in the U.P. has turned into a monster truck cruise at night....
That's why I only go for the swapmeet....and that has sucked the last few years as well. Everyone admits that they jack their prices up for that event. I hardly ever end up buying any actual parts there...I've had way better luck at the monthly swap at Sumpter County. I always wonder why some people put down the NSRA show in Tampa, but act like the TRR is the ultimate car show. There are a lot of cool cars at Daytona...those same cool cars are at the NSRA show, only you don't have to walk past the PT Cruiser club, the ricers/corvette/miata/Zcar/VW/whatever club...etc. to get to them.
That's what you get for leaving the balmy north country. We just had our first snow fall. Ice on the roads and heavy coats/gloves/hats. Guess you know where you can stick your "poor me" posts don't you? Frank
Just scrolled back up. I think I've figured it out. You bought the "'57" Tahoe with the 26" 6 spokes and couldn't turn it for a profit at the swap didn't you? That's sure to leave a bad taste in your mouth. Frank
It is SAD that a event that once was so good has really went so sorry ... I went every year for 20 years ... and I have not went now for 3 years. The event was GREAT ... back when it was @ the Sea Breeze High School and the headquarters was @ the LaPlaya. But things change ... and folks got greedy ... The traffic on I-95 is also MURDER ...
there must have been some good stuff among the shit. There is always about a 100 good rides.. and 500 WTF rides.. but I always had fun.. maybe it was the swap, maybe it was seeing friends or just hanging out by the beach at night and checking out the rides in the parking lot across from the hotel
Seeing friends is always COOL ... but I read where they have the Bel-Air Plaza parking lot blocked to the rodders .. and that was the BEST PART of the weekend ... involving cars IMHO
usually the weekend is better than the week days i didnt go with the 36.but i am goin for the swap on Saturday
Actually I traded the Tahoe for a deuce three window.....it doesn't run, but it came with a basket case ardun motor, and a quickchange, so I guess I'll be OK.
I'll trade places with you!! I'm in the cold here in PA and wish I was there. Sure there's a bunch of stupid shit there....But it's warm and I've found a lot of ccol shit at that swapmeet. Not to mention the good people I usually get to see. Greg goes out of his way to make sure everybody is well taken care of! Clark
Actually the show this year is very good. When you go to a show that fill's up a 2 1/2 mi speedway your gonna do a lot of walking duhhhhhhhh. There was a large number of our type cars in the HAMB,SGP,Poorboys ,Rumbler parking spots.I do agree that there are alot of cars that make you wonder what the fuck were they thinking when they built it.There are also alot of car's that look like daily driver's.You tell me another show where for a 35$ registration you get a 4 day show with as many people as you can fit in your car .The swap meet this year is the best it's been in years, there was more bodys there than I have seen in year's .While you might be able to get a better bargain at local swap meet you wont get the volume of choices. Most of them will deal and the ones that wont FUCK EM.While the pic's you posted showed the wort of the show I bet that when people start posting show pic's you will see a ton of good car's GREGG
(It's called a "Rod Run"....?????....wtf) One more thing acually it's not called the turkey rod run .It's called the Turkey Run<!-- / message -->
Quit yer bitchin'Steve;after all,it IS called the TURKEY RUN.You just happened to run into the featured Turkeys..Three and one half hours straight? You know you're supposed to pace yourself at your age. As for the 57 BURB;it could have been worse:it could have been DONKED! You mid Michigan hooligans just don't have any sense of humor.
OK....I stand corrected. As a first time attendee, and after having heard it referred to as the Turkey rod run, I claim misinformed. And if we are going to compare it to other events, lets talk about Goodguys Indy. Three days of non stop nostalgia drags, killer cars everywhere, easy cruising in the area....but you cant take a carful in for 35 bucks. Maybe someday I will take a carful to a car show...but I hope not with the type of cars I prefer. But if I had a 2007 Nomad, I could take at least five people!!!
You should have traded the "Bel-AirHO" for the bad ass Lincoln Limo kit car mess. Therefore, next year you could take Frank, Rich, Me, and all the other available mid Michigan rif-raf down there. None the less, Sweet pics Steve!
never been, planning for a while to go. i love swap meets, is this one full of repo camaro/chevelle parts? any vintage tin/parts?
I'm with Clark, I think the weather is the big plus side for us here in the north. This time of year it starts to gets cold and sucks. I don't mind the mix of cars there. If it was full of the same stuff I'd be bored there. Also I love to cruise down by the beach. Even if I can't screw around because of the cops its still fun. I haven't been in a couple of years, I can't wait to go back.
i was there and wish i hadnt left. had to catch the train with the buick on friday and got home this mornin.only realy got to see the show on thursday and a little friday mornin till i had to head off for the train station. it was my first time and from what i saw there were alot of musclecars and junk like the tahoe thing. however there were some really cool cars, i did finally see the hamb parking on my way out friday and the silver rpu is what really caught my eye. the weather was awesome as well. 80 degrees most of the week except for the rain thursday afternoon but it didnt last to long. i will be back and will be staying the whole weekend. i arrived monday but was at disney world mon-wed since my girlfriend has never been and she surprised me with the richard petty driving experience in orlando so my trip was well worth but next time i will see the whole show.
