Why sir would you "Order" S/S Cragers? :)

Bwa, ba, waa, waa, wow, wow.... just like the 70's...he he he

  3. Not sure if they are still available but I have a set on my 57 Safari that were made circa 1966.Fronts are 6x14 and rears are 8x14.Car is raised slightly all around so rear wheels clear wheel wells.Tires are E-70x14 and H-70x14 Goodyear Wide Ovals.

Also found a Cragar G/T wheel in the trash once.Looks like an S/S but has a 3-bar spinner.Think it fits a Ford Mustang(mid 80's).Never saw one before.I use it for a stand for one of my trash barrel in the shop.

The ones I've owned have all been slotted, but I was told by a wheel shop that you could get specific patterns.

Cragar GT's are at least as old as the SS wheels. They've been discontinued for a very long time. I have a full set on 14x6 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern wheels with regular round caps with G/T in the middle (look similar SS centers). The rim design is different that the SS too....steel rim but the outside-outer edge of the rim is also aluminum....similar looking to the SS but different. I'm pretty sure they were discontinued well before the 80's 4 lug equipped Fox-stangs were on the road.

Cragar SS wheels can (or at least could have been) be found with standard bolt patterns......I've seen more with holes rather than slots, actually.

Although as common as the SBC powered hotrod and belly*****on, Cragar SS wheels were introduced in 1964.....so they would be acceptable for anything built for the mid-sixties era or after.....and on-topic here.

I'd be guessin the man likes his SS cragars and the colour black. I'd definitely agree with the black. Looks good to me on any vehicle worth talking about.

Can you still get them in custom backspacing? I've always loved that deep offset look that the old lowriders used.

they are all uni-lug, with the exception of the 5-5.5 bolt pattern it is direct fit. also some of the real early wheels are also direct bolt.

For most sizes, they offer a normal backspacing and a "reverse" wheel with very little backspacing.

Sorry, but they are NOT all Uni-lug!!!

I have 17x8's on my 83 El-Camino that are NOT Uni-lug. The new Crager SS uses a Special Conical?? lug nut. I have a set of lug nuts for My 57 sedan also.

I'm talking the older***** here, not the new 16" and bigger sizes that your order from summit. 5-5.5 are direct bolt. some of the earlier stuff is direct bolt, with the majority of them being uni-lug. and yes your new style 17x8 wheels are now direct fit.

  17. Hmmmm, 1971 Monte Carlo, Crager SS's, a bag of good weed and a blonde in the middle of the front seat changing the Led Zeppelin 8 track. Its all coming back now. The fun I had before responsibilities kicked in....

When I was a kid in '76, if you didnt have Cragers, you wasnt da*****...

Thanks for the walk down memory lane...

Unilug or not, something about a steel rim with an aluminum center just seems wrong to me...

Maybe that's why they rust three days after they are mounted?

If you can, stay away from the unilug. They loosen up easier than when the wheels had the fixed bolt pattern-just my experience. I had one wheel that kept almost coming off no matter how tight I made it. The early crager ss were not unilug.

Hey guy's, thanks for the input. I just picked up a car that I had intended on buying over the summer.... long story anyway its a 64' chevy belair.. 327/4spd factory... its been killing me because the guy who owned it had it for over 40yrs! plus not to mention live less than 2 miles from me and I would see it all the time in his driveway/garage.. anyway he added some cool stuff back in the day.. a sun tach, stewart warner guages, and I thought it would pretty cool to just add a set of S/S cragers and redlines like back in the day.. but I surely don't want the uni-lug stuff. I was told by another guy that they are now offered in both uni and direct sizes...
    Thanks Jason

My dad has an old b/w photo of his 57 Ford (at the Sebring races) with Cragar SS on it with skinny white walls. I think the photo was from about '68. I wish I had the photo to scan, but it is 3000 miles away. I think they can look good if implemented well, but so often they are not.

I went through this same problem, I called and e-mailed them (For some reason theyre affiliated with Carisle) and they said they only make them in uni-lug in the typical 14-15 inch sizes, they wont make them in custom offsets or backspacings anymore and they wont sell direct.. You cant even find them @ Pep Boys either. You have to get them through the 1-800 Mullet catalogs.
