i built a 232 up for my brothers mail jeep its got a crower beast cam ,offenhauser intake ,850 cfm thermoquad carb ,roller rockers, and split header,i did all that for him and then he beat my 82 mustang so i will never build another straight 6 again theres nothing worse than getting your ass spanked by a right hand drive mail jeep but my mustang was better on gas!

I got a noisy '59 Edsel with a 223 and dual 2" straight pipes out under the rear - it's stupid loud, and scrapes tips everywhere, and I love it.

my next project is a 47 Studebaker pickup, and I'm going to be putting a 250 in it with either a 5 speed or a 700R4...that part I haven't decided, but I'm leaning towards the 5 speed. The motor has a lot of work done to it, and I may acutally pull the cam out of it that is currently in it and go with something a little more road friendly. Why am I going with the 6? Because I like to be different and I've had the motor sitting here waiting for something to put it in for a couple of years since I pulled it out on my Nova

Just bought a rebuilt Hudson 232 6 for dirt cheap, $76.00 on that auction? website. It's a 51 so it has insert bearings. Of course, the motor is going in a Hudson, a 46 Big Boy Pickup. I dig the 308 twin H motors, wish I could get one of those for $76 bucks, rightttttt.

I am going to use two SU carbs on the crossflow head. See my other post related to this.

I have a bunch of inline six powered cars - gassers, altereds, roadsters mostly. Someday I will post them.

How much power are you guys getting out of the chevy inline 6? I've got a chance to buy a full race engine but my car is already setup for a small block. Wondering if I'd be wasting my time or not? The six sounds really evil to listen to though. I'm betting it's not a slouch?

I've got a complete and nice Tattersfield 2x2 intake and carbs for you mopar guys.

The only official dyno data available for the 261 was done by Frank McGurk in 1955 in his article for the Hot Rod magazine.

In my configuration it gets about 150 hp.
A race 261 can go up to 200 hp and a stroker with turbo can go even higher.
There are also 12-port heads available...!

Dang FTF, that header is great! Did you make the 'megaphone' (divergent) portion of the collector, or is that one for a 'limefire' kit?

Even more impressive is it's on a 300 I6 Ford with an ultra-rare cross flow head.......

I figured those weren't real common, (I've never seen one before). Are they for the later model injected engines?

No all Ford trucks and vans had the normal non-cross flow setup. The cross flow heads were reportedly developed and used on some delivery trucks, but they are rare like hens teeth. May have been developed for an off shore export thing, but never really used.

FTF can tell you all about them. He has talked about them on the fordsix.com/forum baord before. if we ask nice maybe he will post up the pics and info on his 300 I6, dual carb powered '33 Willy's hot rod. He has some cool shit.

    Re my champ car project:

I made the megaphone - rolled up .078 stainless steel. What a bear to fab. Used darn near every tool in my shop to shape it.

THE CROSSFLOW HEAD WAS AN EXPERIMENTAL PIECE - NEVER PUT INTO PRODUCTION IN UPS OR ANYTHING ELSE. I got mine through contacts i had when I was an engineer in the Engine Performance Development Group at Ford.

I have several 300 powered hot rods. I really get a kick out of seeing what others have done with this engine. I think it is vastly under-rated by the hot rodding world.

Thanks for all the encouragement. Check out www.fordsix.com.

Not sure if I posted already, oh well here's mine, stroked 261 to 285 cubes, 848 head, big valves, vertex mag, cyclone intake, 3 - 97's, fenton vc, what else can I tell you, oh yeah it's hooked to a packard trans. and its in a 31 chevy coupe. best thing I ever did was leave an inline in this car.

Gear Jammer, so that's the so called 'Cadillac 261'? Been lookin' at gathering parts for one. How do you like it?

What benefit is there to the Packard trans (or did you already have one)? Just tryin' to learn here.

BTW, how do you find the trans??? My coupe is far from finished, so I won't find out what they are like for some time yet.

Packard trans is cool, just dontexpect to speed shift it, syncros arent that good, theres a few tricks I can clue you in on these trans, 1st one I tried was noisey, so I rebuilt the one in the car now, Its pretty much perfect, you will like it, has a great gear ratio, you can wind up 2nd forever, haha

yes cadillac 261, if you want to call it that, runs good, lots of torque, I had questions about cutting the crank like that, and using a narrow connecting rod, but my engine holds good oil presure, and I did a 7000 mile trip this past summer with this car and had no break downs, used no oil, and got 20 mpg on the road. the packard trans has a good gear ratio, and the stick comes out in the middle of the floor like it should, I ran a chev od trans for a year, but like the packard better, My cars are built correct for the period, besides, I dont like the new stuff anyway, by the way I have an extra set of 292 rods if you need them for the 285 build, see ya

  24. With the price of gas now there is nothing wrong with a six. I would run one, in something.

Running a 6 does not automatically equal better mpg's. People like to think it does, but it isn't always true.
