Why have Astro Supreme Wheels become so Damn Expensive??

Trying to order a set of Supremes for my 64 Riviera, so I call Esajian, like I have done several times before... and no dice... he doesn't sell them anymore. For what reason, I dont know. (maybe b/c they are so damn expensive now :D)

So I call the guy he recommends and that guy don't speaka the English so well, so he has me call their midwest division. They are now $600 for a set of 4 15x7"s w/ no lug nuts
(Esajian was like $450 w/ caps, lugs, shipped to my door!)

Well then I do a search on the HAMB and find out that Coy's Wheels has them for $110 each... good enough, I'll order them there.... Welp, now Allied Wheel has quit making them and they have to get them from another supplier... $650 shipped w/ caps and lugs

Convinced I can find them cheaper somewhere, I go to Summit Racing.com and find them there for $129 each... not bad w/ free shipping... Fine and dandy but they are back ordered and probably wont be in until after the new year! But they come w/ the dumb plastic center caps, so I have to add another $35 or so for a set of bullets off ebay!

What happened to the days of cheap Supremes shipped in a few days? Anyone know of a source?

Under $175 a wheel is still cheap... metal is expensive...

I'll tell ya what happened. Everyone realized that they look great on damn near any vehicle. It could also be hot rodder hoarding again like everyone does with the metalflake steering wheels.

From what I've heard regarding wheels is that aluminum prices have gotten much higher, add to that the environmental impact of Chrome plating and the EPA requirements that follow... prices are therefore higher now.

Well... maybe, but when they were $450 a set w/ caps, lugs, and shipping from CA to St. Louis just a year ago, I gotta wonder whats up. Especially when a larger wheel company like Allied has quit making them. The Allied ones were a composite wheel (alum center w/ steel hoop like a Cragar SS), so I can see where alum prices could affect them, but what about the ones I used to get from Esajian? They were all steel.

And why are they all back ordered from Summit? Is US wheel (summits supplier) phasing this design out also?

What the heck is going on here?

Lucky me... i payed $225.00 i believe for a set of 14x6" standards this year right before Paso at the Long Beach Swap (brand new)!!!:D i had called Esajian and he had already stopped carrying them and the best price i found anywhere was something like $450 a set for wheels only no caps or lugs. The wheels got popular thats why they cost $$$$. :p :p

The baby blue cars just kinda grew on me... I hated the color at first, but I sure seem to attract them.

Had a 68 Caddy in that shade as well :)

Here is a link to an album w/ pictures of the 62 Impala... lots of pics there:

As far as colors go, you just cant go wrong w/ black w/ a red gut on a 62 Impala... overdone?... yes, but for a reason

the US wheel version is WEAK!!!!! they tend to leak(thats why moon got rid of them) and they will crack/break in the spoke area. yes i've seen it with my own two eyes more than once.

i wasn't aware Allied wasn't doing any more. i'm guessing thats a recent thing.

the guy from Imperial Wheel Co in NY owns all the original molds and stuff. thats who i got the ones on my buick from many years ago. Allied was doing them for him and in turn they did them for themselves to. his are nicer. maybe contact him(ad in the back of rod and custom usually)..

i'd trade my 15x7s for a set of cragar wires. they are about 8-9 years old but the car has probably only been driven 5-10k in that time. wrapped in the NICE Cooper Trensetters 205/70/15s that they don't make anymore either. maybe i'm under valuing my wheels hahaha...ken....

Ok guys... I will check on prices and I give a HAMB discount. Crager is making them. I have seen what is involved in making these wheels and there is a reason they are a little pricey.. Yes, they are made in the US...You can Pm me if serious.... Jason.

I placed an order for them w/ Coys, then they called back 20 mins later and said Allied quit making them. The could get them from another supplier but they were quite a bit more $$$

Looks like I just need to quit being a cheapskate and buy a set
