I always thought a little model t lakes modified would be fun to have with a five speed tranny and a V8-60... nice looking motor there! Jordan
I hope this thread doesn't die. I've managed to aquire 5 of these little critters since I took a liking to them. 2 are complete but stuck and 3 are partial assemblies. I've been watching that dreaded auction site and have managed to find an Edelbrock 2 duece manifold and a choice pair of Edelbrock finned heads. I've also got a high performance cam I'm trying to find the specs for and an assortment of bearings, valves, rings, retainers, gaskets, 2 Stromberg 81 carbs, and a real cool ignition system, etc. I'm Thinking a modified or a Model A pickup might be a good home if I ever get one assembled and running. I was lucky to buy the truck with the "60". would love to hear some ideas on making more power. It is single stromberg 81 and a 6volt system. We should start are own "60" club ha ha
I have 2 more, one is stuck and the other I believe will run with ign. gone through. Then there is a Simca that is made on the 60 pattend. Been told they used their parts to make stroker motors.
Do you use a oil filter and do you use a generator. if you have mor pic would love to see them will post more of mine later .
WOW!!! That is waaaay cool!!! It sure sounds crisp with great throttle response. I WANT ONE!!! Actually I have a block and most of the parts to put it together with the stock aluminum heads, an Edelbrock manifold and some Stromberg 81's but then that would be another project far into the future. Does anyone know if anyone is currently running one of these in any of the vintage classes at Bonneville? I would love to see one out there next year.
They were made in France 1935 to 1981. This engine was in a 1959. Some parts will interchange, the block, oil pan, and pan are different. Dizzy is on front like 49-53 flathead. Uses one water pump. Heads look like they will interchange, but have freeze plugs. Exhaust manifolds look to interchange and are a better design, might try them on mine.
There is a V8-60 Vintage Midget class that runs at Bonneville. The record set in '06 is 131.150 MPH. Pretty fast.
It doesn't have the whine and grind I thought the early ones would have. Granted it grinds going into 1st, like all of them do.
I think the commercial 60 trans uses big V8 guts...but I'm far from an expert on the 3/4-scale version of the ol' flatty!
There is also a version of the V8-60 in a 60s Simca from Brasil called the Emi-Sol which is a OHV hemi-head setup similar to the ARDUN. There are videos of this engine on the Yahoo Flathead ford V8 site and perhaps uTube. There was an older man in Houston with a 26-27 T roadster with a 40 full cast block V8-60 and trans hooked up to a Model A rearend, Model A front end and steering with wire wheels and hydraulic brakes. I've always wondered what happened to that car.
I have read that the V8-60 transmission was the same bolt pattern as the 100hp 239" Flattie transmission. ie..the big engine trans should bolt up to the V8-60 bell. If true, the popular T5 swap would make an aweful lot of sense if you really intend to drive it. I have always wondered how much a V8-60 weighed? Anyone know?
No pics of speedway midgets? ,Allard also made finned heads for the4 v8 60 for use on midget racers. This the late great Satan Brewer tuning his V8 60 powered midget. http://www.speedwayroyale.homestead.com/Satan.html
37-39 V8-60s have sheet metal water jackets welded to the open sides of the block. Only the 40 V8-60s have a full cast block as well as bigger crank and rods. The best V8-60 to get and to modify.
