Just wondering how much support fellow HAMBers get from their wives or girlfriends regarding their automotive related hobbies. I know my wife takes about as much interest in my automotive interests as I take in what color she thinks the curtains in the bathroom should be.

    Anbody have anything to share?

  2. My wife digs old cars but not in the same way as I do. She loves driving HER 54 Chevy. She likes that it keeps my brain working on new ideas. She likes seeing rusty shit turn into a car.

My girl split the cost of my powder coating with me. She knows nothing about cars, much less hot rods. She still thinks I'm restoring a classic, but she supports me because she knows this stuff makes me happy.

Now, if I could just convince her that a body for my hot rod would make the perfect gift.

I think my gf views my 56 as a threat, since I really do spend more of my time with the car than with her.

But then again, the car was there before her, and it will be there after she is gone. lol i have been through so many bad relationships I just don't care anymore.

You guys with gf's or wives that are into this hobby are truly lucky.

My wife rule nothing older that a 40 & No Trailer Queen.. Best advise don't tell them how it cost and hide the ck book.

"please get a bigger car I have no room for the antiques"

  7. I'd say she puts up with it. She never gives me shit about the stuff I have in the yard, unless I leave stuff in front of the garage.
She enjoys going to cruise ins and to El Mirage. she doesn't really like swap meets.
She drives a 55 Ford every day. Hell, when I met her, I had a 69 Torino fender in my closet, along with other stuff in my apartment.
I think I had 5 cars then. So she knew what she was getting into, and did not try to change me.

In 1958 my girl friend helped me put a clutch in my 50 Merc, so we could go out that night. We are still together (married 43 years) and loving rodding. We drove our 40 pickup to Lake George this summer, and had a great time. I hope everyone has the support I have in our hobby.

We picked out the curtains for the whole house together, as well as the 50s esq furniture. Plus she helps me make decisions on the crap I'm building. It also helps that every now and again, I make a buck or two from my hobby.

my girl is super supportive of it all. she loves it when i come in smelling of sweat, old gas and oil. she lets me build carburetors and cylinder heads in the living room. she doesn't mind when i do burn outs, though she waits in the car until the smoke is gone to get out. on top of all this, she's the only girl who can keep up with my libido ;) all this and more is why she's going to be my wife soon :D

My girl sits outside in the cold November weather in a garage with no heat just to hang around and learn some car stuff. Definitely a supportive girl, love her to death.

  15. my wife is totally on board till i ask her to come out to the shop to lift or help out with something. i can actually say shes a bit more understanding than i could expect her to be. a good bit of my time is out there with my builds going on and customers cars. she does seem to not like it when we are trying to have a conversation and 15 cars drive up the drive to see whats going on. guess i lucky that way. dont tell her i said that though!!!!

My wife doesn't like anything lowered or chopped or channeled or...but she knows it makes me happy and I spend time with my kids doing it. She bought me my welder, a/c, and most of my tools. She rocks.

    :)

My wife knew I was a Harley riding, Hot Rod wrench twisting, knucklebusting type when we got married. She never tried to change me. She likes going to the events and cruises. She does not really WORK on the cars but has input into some things. Her biggest request was " Build me a 32 3W "

My wife is awsome. She's a real proper lady, very artistic and proper. Really freaked her family out when she married me and we were racing my turbo funny bike; she started it, put it in gear in the bleach box, backed me up after the burnout, etc etc.
She doesn't know terminology and makes and models, she's just into it to be with me. I am Blessed, big time.

My girl is great. right now she is making me a drink for desert after the amazing dinner she made me, to feed me after I spent the only day we have both had off out in the garage playing with the 29 chevy. I did help put up the xmas tree with her between welding on the fenders. She helps me fund my projects and wants me to teach her to weld and fabricate so that when I am done with the 29 she can build all but the chassis for HER 37 chevy pickup

My wife totaly supports my addiction, She may not understand it but she supports it.I am very lucky anything I need a hand with she is always there. Hell my 8 yr old daughter even knows how to weld.

  25. I got lucky when I found my wife. She worked with me on nitro and alcohol funny cars. Now our oldest son works full time for NHRA funny car racer Tim Wilkerson. This past fall when I spent the last 3 months assembling our latest front engine dragster, She sat in it when we fired it for the first time! Been happily married for 24 years and can't wait for the next 24.

yeah my gf is supportive. she dosnt like the occasional allnighters or the pretty consistent all weekenders but as long as i spend some time with her shes kewl with it. she loves the cars but i guess she dosnt understand the work ethic it takes to turn one out yourself. she has been asking me to teach her to mig weld. she says "teach me to weld with the one that has the button". she dont like the tig welder.

My wife of 45 years has been a great help. Her 2 older brothers were gearheads back in the day, but haven't stuck with it. She's had a little grease under those pretty nails more than a tine or two. The times I've been discouraged and wanted to sell the Merc she's been the one who snapped me out of it.
