There was a guy with a boattail speedster in an early issue of Old skool rodz that had a killer crown shift knob. Turned out it was a candle holder from Pier one Imports, I found this one at a garage sale about a month after the magazine came out. Shot at 2007-12-02
No skulls and gargoyles for me. I know most won't like this but some old farts might. I found the shift knob for 3 bucks at the Turkey run. It's probably a generic one for tractors and such. The guy had 6 or 7. I just liked the old shape. Later in the day I found this medallion. They passed them out in the 1934 Exposition. They looked like a match to me. I turned a flat and made a recess for it on my lathe. A big stretch of my very limited lathe skills. I glued it in and hit it with some rattle can clear coat. I love the fact that it was dated. My bullshit story for the masses will be that my 34 pickup was a display model at the exposition and only the display models got these super rare shift knobs. Don't tell anybody. I don't want to be thought of as a bullshit artist.
These knobs are sweet....bought one from Leadsleadolds this year and it was worth every penny... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=217708 Bryan
Here is a couple I have. The shiny ones my buddy got when he worked for the a hobby store chain, actually parts off broken lamps. The other one I have had so long I cant remember where it came from but it does fit the hand nice, need to put a thread insert in it though to use it, stripped out. Oh, and a neat but junk knob from the zone.
Tommy..that's cool! I think they had a shift knob for the world's fair in the early 30's. It looks a lot like what you did. Clark
