Ex wife hated old cars, we split up 7 years ago. Last girlfriend hated garage time along with old cars, we split up. Never met a woman yet who had it like I do, you guys are lucky.

My wifes great about it..she is not involved, but she allows me the time and the crative liberty, to spend the time to hunt parts work for hours on the projects and spend the money i need to get it done.
She enjoys the finished product and loves to go for rides. My 9 year old daughter is probably more involved but only to a point. I keep my prioraties with my family needs first, and my hobby second. That keeps the strain to a minimum.

My wife tells me I don't have a car hobby;.....I have an obsession! It might have something to do with the years and years of dragging junk home. I do wish she were more enthusiastic. Oh well.

My wife loves the cars, but I'd say just tolerates the mess while I'm working on the truck. I think she likes having me out of her hair when I'm working on it. :D

I don't think she is one to really get out and turn a wrench, but she wanted to try welding (that lasted about twenty minutes), and between her and my daughter are very involved in making sure it has the right wheels and tires (bias-ply white walls on steel wheels, thank you), and the right paint color.

We just had our first anniversary, and she "forced" me to get a new welder when mine broke... gotta love her! :)

  10. When I met Margueritte in 1992, my daily and only car was a '65 Corvair conv. with no top fabric.... She knew what she was getting into.

As long as I keep my home chores up to date, she's OK with me going to the barn (it's 2 miles away from the house) til 10-11 at night.

My wife and I have "his and hers" concours cars. The Porsche is hers. She has been a judge at several shows and know more about mid-'60 Mopar than the majority of men I know.

    I'm a lucky man!!!

22 years ago when my wife and I were going together she work the Lake Phalan Ice race with me. The actual high temp that day was -36 plus the windchill. Two weeks later she flagged the Forest Lake ice race and the weather was even colder. Four road racing cars ans lot of dollars latter we celebrated our 20 anversary last may.
She has crewd on every race car- evend a track engine rebuild ( that is a story you have to ask about ).

We have since sold all of the road racing stuff and are building two hot rods the 54F100 - hers and the 38pickup mine. We also work at streetrod and hotrod events together.
Hopefully we can cruise for another 20 years and celebrate our 40th at the 2027 HAMB drags or Pileup.

My wife is not that interested in cars and the culture around it, but I find her reading car magazines more often now. She's cool with my interest and says nothing when I want to go to a show or meet my buddies. Her daugther are real cool with old cars, actually it's on her wish list for Santa (I want an old car) My ex helped me crewing on drag race cars, but I couldn't stand her for other reasons...

WOW ! What a thread ! Sort of like OPRAH ...with wheels

I have been with my girlfriend for 17 years. She has one daughter and I have two daughters..all three are grown and married. We have decided that we are waiting for the kids to die off and then we will get married.
My honey knows Wednesday night is hotrod night and please don't make any plans for Saturday because I will be at the garage. She does the all the Ravens home games ( this year, I don't understand going at all...they suck !)along with tailgating...3 hour game...15 hours of drinking and talking football. Thats ok by me. She could care less about cars. When I came home and told her that I was buying Clark Bate's T coupe, she never said a word. I guess that is support to the highest power. Love her...love my car..love my hobby..and when she walks in and I am looking at pics from the internet, she knows they will be cars...not the 19 year old webcam chick named linda who lives in Philadelphia................sorry

There is a flip side to this as well, finding a guy that digs cars as much as I do.
I have lost a few of guys because of my car obsession. I know you guys probably find it hard to believe, a guy not really into cars, but they are out there.
I'm sure I've heard a lot of the complaints you guys hear from your girlfriends/wives; why do you spend all your money on those old heaps? do we have to go to another car show? are you really going to work in the garage again tonight? why are you going to a car show in California..there are ones downtown every week! and so forth....

I've learned to be happy with the people in my life. People enter and exit for a reason. BUT I don't think I could ever even consider marrying a non-car guy!

I'm confused....but then again, I don't spend much time in the "real" world, LOL !!!

My wife and daughter are with me 100%. Rosie helped me grind out rust spots in my old Jeep, she's walked Carlisle and Englishtown with me multiple times and doesn't resent my hobbies because I don't put my hobbies before my wife or daughter.

Men that put their hobbies before their wives and families aren't real men in my opinion. And if your wife resents your hobbies either you are putting them before her or you married the wrong gal.

The first wife threw my but out because I wouldnt "grow up". The next lady I dated was told on the first date that if she didnt like old cars, to not bother calling. She called, we have been married twenty years next April.

It's all new to her, but she loves it! Even racing on a 32 degree day.

Mine will help when I ask, but for the most part its just a piece of steel to her. I was suprised at a car show once when she said I would love to have one of those ( was a 50's chopped delivery sedan )

If it wan't for mine, I couldn't afford to play with these toys.
She actually offered to help fund my very first project which gave me enough to continue on other projects.
I remember a time when we first were married she said she would love to have a whole garage full of old cars.
That changed after she realized building or buying them is only the beginning. They are always a drain out of the funds.
She has always been very supportive and loves to ride around with me in them. She even asked one time if it was possible to install an automatic in one of them if I would ever die and leave them to her. :)
Ying and yang in some respect. I would be out of control building and buying if I didnt have her keeping my priorities in line.
She's been great with understanding my obsession.

  28. My Girl, soon to be wife, is also super supportive of my hobbies and work. She is just getting her feet wet in the whole automotive thing but wants to learn more. She wants to restore her own car, with my guidance. She is a wonderful inspiration for me and has helped me in figuring out difficult problems in fabricating.

I really feel that the right girl for you or anyone is the one that is supportive in every part of your life, but remember that goes both ways, you need to support the things that she loves as well. And never ignore her for a car or work or whatever. whether she is into your hobby or not if you communicate with her about it she will at least learn to appreciate why it matters to you a therefore you both will be happier. just my $.02

My girl... soon to be my fiance... just mentioned to me that she'd like to have my 46 in our wedding.

    I think that's pretty cool.
