the worst thing anyone could ever wake up to is the sight of their passion destroyed by the carelessness of a drunk driver. sunday morning i felt this pain. after my morning coffee i was on my way out the door to hit the pomona car swap meet. excited because i was on my mission to find hidden treasures to make my truck unique. to my dismay i found my truck parked half on the sidewalk and half in the street. hit and run. my truck destroyed, my holidays ruined. its bullshit that some fuck decides to drink a little to much and get behind the wheel. the fact that he felt he was sober enough to navigate the streets while he probably couldnt see past his vomit makes me so angry. what if it was a human being and not a big hunk of metal. what makes it worse, is that he was a coward and bolted from the seen before anyone saw. you know what sucks... i actually feel partly at fault because i parked on the street. unfortunately that was the only place for me to park since i was staying the night at my girls house. i have been into cars my entire life but i was never lucky enough to have a family that supported me and my obsession. so this truck was my first project/daily driver. i have had more fun learning (sometimes through trial and error) about what makes my truck tick, than i have had learning about anything else in my life. i have to apologize because this is not meant to be a sob story. im just venting because all i wanted to do was enjoy my holidays in the garage. here are a couple pics. before and after.
That's a pretty solid hit but your truck certainly looks very fixable. I know it sucks though. I got a hit and run in my truck but I was rearended and had a big hitch on the back. It poked out his radiator. I chased him down when I saw the antifreeze and knew he wouldn't get far. When it finally stopped, the doors opened and a bunch of foreign guys got out running. The car was not plated or insured and I'm pretty sure none of them were legal so nothing happened except for the police impounding the Grand Prix. I hope it at least cost them a lot of money. It didn't do shit to my truck except leave a little bit of Grand Prix on the hitch.
2 separate people walked out to see a man stumbling around picking up the pieces of his mutilated mazda miata (and of course they didnt get a license plate number). both agreed he had to have been drunk. obviously i can only assume but that would be my only thought since it was a straight road that dude was driving on.
That sucks, but a couple of fenders, a running board and a wheel and it'll be good as new. Look at it as a chance to do some more personalization to your ride. Sorry to see it wrecked though
Drunk driving is nothing short of pathetic..and that's not even getting started on the danger's it involve's. If the guy was drunk i just hope he didn't hurt anyone but himself with his lack of responsibility.. ALSO, drunk or not..a hit and run is a cowards move..the guy should have his ass handed to him the old fashioned way. Suck's about your truck man.. I like it a lot. Could have been a loved one, then that wouldnt seem so bad. Sorry about your truck, but destroyed it certainly isnt. Good luck with the rebuild and keep the lookout for the Miata. If it did that much damage to your truck, you should know the car when you see it.
Years ago I had my 50 chevy parked in front of my house on the street and one of the neighbors came home from one of her drinking stunts and hit it in the ass,pushed it up the drivway hit my 40 chevy 2 door sedan and then pushed both though a fence, she told the cops she was turning into her driveway,results: no insurance,on welfare,3 kids. total 3 cars, she had a new car 2 days later, cost me $356.00 court cost, she lost licence for 6 months, still drove. Didn"t get 1 penny for my loss. In a case as these I think justifiable homicide is a good cause.
That sucks dude. My '66 Galaxie was hit by a drunk in my driveway a few years ago. Dude had a guilty conscience though - he knocked on my door a few days later, told me he had a few too many, hit my car, got scared and ran. He paid a body shop 800 bucks to fix the damage to my car.
im definitely on the look out for a mangled miata. unfortunately if i find the guy i dont think i will hold back. maybe ill use my running board to give my truck some vindication. kidding... violence isnt the answer (usually). according to the insurance adjuster and the shop it is currently at, the frame is bent in the rear pretty bad. i know he sheared off the mounts for the leaf springs as well as the shocks. but you guys are right, if i can get the frame fixed then everything else should be fairly easy. luckily the next step was to c-notch the rear end. now is the time since AAA insurance is going to pay for it.

That sucks. I'd call every autobody place in the area and offer a $100 dollar reward if a mazda miata showed up that could be linked to the dmage on your truck.
I would bet the first place the fucker will head will be a local wrecking yard. I,d be letting them in on what took place.Lots of blue paint will be left on it.
God damn, man. I'm still driving my first truck as well ... and I know if I found my truck in that state, I would go nuts. Here's hoping that guy gets his, without you having to do anything irresponsible ... And if he was inebriated enough to rail it that hard on a straight road, I hope he didn't hurt anyone else either.
that really blows, yrs ago I had a new 67 Nova SS. while parked in a shopping center ( no malls yet) someone hit the front end hard. had to call a tow truck & nobody seen anything
Wow! thats a very solid swipe! for a miata..mmmm? me thinks he wouldnt get very far..did the spectators get a description of the jerk? its hard to tell but it must have been a white or silver miata..(if it was a miata) it does look like a low hit. Is there any way you can scrounge about in the area that your truck was parked and get any remnants of the suspect car? Did you make a police report? I would be totally amazed if that car would be drivable..check the local body shops. or keep an eye out in the local bars for that guy , who knows maybe after he gets it fixed he will drive by again..seems to me a head on with a truck of that size would ruin his day! If you get what i mean?

I'm sorry to hear that. We had the same thing happen earlier this year, it's tough, and our insurance wasn't a big help. It's such a frustrating feeling, knowing that the guy/girl that hit you doesn't give two shits about themselves or their car, but they hit something that means a hell of a lot to you. Good luck with that, at least it looks like it won't be too bad to fix. You're safe, though, which is what really matters. Good luck
That SUX!! I had some drunk ass hole throw a bottle at my 31 coupe, missed the car but hit my headlight at about 70mph. Thank God I did not see the dumb ass do it, but I hope to meet him someday. Robert
DRUNK DRIVERS ARE TOTAL ASSHOLE FUCKFACES. I hate drunk drivers. Theres no reason anyone at any time needs to drive drunk, theres cabs, designated drivers, and your Lamborfeeties. No excuse. Get buzzed, get drunk, send your liver into a coma for all I care. Just don't get behind the wheel!! The day one of those assholes hurts one of my kids or something is the day I go to prison. definatly sucks , at least its repairable and no one got hurt, well not yet anyway..i felt your pain myself back in the 80s , i parked my 71 cuda on the street and it got smoked in a hit and run..
That does suck, but could have been a lot worse. Looks like your cab is miraculously ok and just need a couple of new fenders and a wheel. Hopefully the frame didn't get tweaked. Might have a bent axle, but still pretty fixable. I am guessing that you probably didn't have it insured for damage, but even if you did, you might want to just fix that and not let them know to keep the premiums from going up. Glad you weren't hurt and hopefully you'll have it back together soon. That is a pretty nice looking truck - nice colors. I like the idea of offering some lookout cash to parts and salvage places. But, even if you find him, it is unlikely the police will be of any help at this point. Keep your eye on Craigslist too for some joker looking for Miata parts.
