Well guys I may have stumbled upon what I think should be a great find. A friend knows a guy who has an exstensive collection of Olds parts ranging from the 40's - the mid 70's that he wants to sell, all-or-nothing!
I'm not as Olds-friendly as some of you so I would love to know what to look for engine wise, axles or any other important info that could be valuable.
I haven't seen anything but what I've been told this could be fantastic. We will see everything on saturday and would love to make an educated descision.

Pics, number locations or whatever you guys could share would be greatly appreciated. Most of this stuff will end up here in the cl***ified so if there is something I should know let me know please!!

    Thanks,

    ******Knuckles

Anything with Horne/Cragar, Fenton, or Edmunds scribbled on it is worth snagging!

  4. General rule of thumb for unknown collections is to figure what it would bring as s****, then get the asking price. If it's close to it, or less, or you see individual pieces you know will bring the asking pretty quick... buy the sum*****. If you're not sure, ask if you can think it over for a day, and hit eBay and see what you can sort out.

Factory J-2 intakes figure about $100, I've seen bare ones go pretty cheap.. the more parts with it, the higher it goes. Performance stuff, aluminum intakes, valve covers and so on, always do well. Manual trans setups also worth a good penny. And the stamped "Rocket" valve covers in nice shape bring $50 a set pretty easy. Beyond that, someone else will have to chime in.

One of the things that I thought was cool is that one of the engines is a 1924 Durant.
I'm really looking forward to saturday.

    Here's a Pontiac engine and a bunch of stainless;

most of what I have seen *so far* is a bunch of factory style take off's.
for example, those weird looking carbs in the first photos are stockers- but they can fetch a pretty penny to the right guys. the 6 with the funky intake baffles me. I am not even sure it's oldsmobile.

The Poncho motor has potential. that is a fairly rare motor (think early super duty.)

    Keep the photos coming!

That little V-4 in the second picture is an air-cooled Wisconson.
Neat little flathead used extensively to power farm equipment in the '40s

Was a bear to start when hot.........

Good thing s**** iron prices are high, you'll be taking alot of that stuff to the local recycler for weight. The load had better be cheap.

All the pics I've shown were not taken by me, they were sent to me by my friend who knows nothing about old cars.
I'll take some when we get there on saturday.

  26. well, a lot of guys here are going to see just old rusty stock type junk.. ignore them, post up some pictures on the AACA web board. I'm sure you can do better than s**** on most everything there, but the early stuff needs to go in Hemmings or other cl***ified ads to find the guys that dig it.. not many of them on the internet.

'55 Pontiac motor, the valve covers are good pieces, but those look pretty rough; save the tags on them though. Should be a slant-pan Hydro with it, those are good pieces. Black car in front of it looks interesting too.

A lot of the really rough stuff is going to be pretty much just s****, though, I'll give them that.. some of it looks like it came out of parts cars that sat in the dirt for years, or sat outside loose.

Things like Generators are useless unless you get some old catalogs to ID them... I got $50 for one on eBay a while back running it in an eBay store listing, but it took a while. But it's worth checking numbers, in case a Corvette one or some other odd application turns up.

Those Olds wagons are pretty tough to find, the frames rot out in them. I'd look it over good.

    Good luck -

I see a '51-'63 Olds selector three speed in one picture--that probably means that you'll find at least one standard shift flywheel to go along with it. Take all of them you can get.
