Hey guys hows it going. i have a 30 coupe and have already chopped it. i would like to get it alot lower, so im gonna channel it. i have already cut out what was left of the subframe. i just need some advice on tubing size, where to brace, and basically how to lay it out. Do you just weld right to the frame? If you have some pics that would be great to. thanks

I don't know if it will help any, or is even the approved way but mine is done with 2" channel and 1" square tubing. I don't know if you can make it out but there is an angle piece at the firewall which attaches it up there. The channel is laying over the frame open side down. At the back end of the frame is another peice of 2" channel facing out board atached to the frame that the long piece sits on top of. The pillars are tied into the angle with the square tubing. I hope the pics are good enough to give ya better idea than I can discribe.

Here's one thread: The black art of channeling a car properly...
Use as many combinations including the word subframe in your search, there's some great pics in several threads.

do not use any tubbing it`s a waste of space ! leave the body off and with your motor set up as high as you can !
and bottom out the rear end ! take the springs out.
I use poster board to make a pattern from the out side of the frame ,
to where the trans , and the drive shaft hump need to be .
then fab a trans tunnel and drive shaft hump , and weld a skirt to the new floor that go`s down the outside of the frame then you tack weld that to the bottom of the coupe . it`s easy make sure the doors line up before any solid welding ! good luck Casey.

    1. Cut the floor out

    2. Raise floor desired heighth

    3. Reconnect subfloor braces

    4. fill in gaps with sheet metal

    5. place body back on frame

    6. go cruisin'

wisdom from Rusthunter....cut out the floor where you want it....then get 4 tire jacks from the junkyard.... put them at each corner and then play around with the look till your happy. Rexrods used to have some great progress pic's of Ryans A coupe being channeled... Can't find them on there now.

  11. Hey im realy keen to find more info and pics regarding the channeling of a model A. Im going to be giving mine a 4" channel and im tossing up between using square tubing or all sheet metal. Could you all mabie shed some light on the benifits or shortfalls of the different techniques.
    Regards
