The NYTimes just did a write up on this car. It was built and designed by a catholic priest in the mid-fifties. They billed it as one of the ugliest cars of all time. The story's kind of interesting. Here's the link:

Theres a guy named Dewitt Powell from Va who used a 67 Ford station wagon roof on a 51 Merc coupe.It was candy red and silver with big blue curly graphics on it.He built that after he had a chopped 51 merc with a 75 Camaro back window in it.I have pics of about 100 of em that would make you want to shoot up.

 

When I was a kid,there were these series of books in the Library that all had different subjects:Slot Cars,Mini-bikes,Custom Cars,Motorcycles,Drag Racing,etc. I know some of you guys remember these. I'll see if I can find mine. Anyways,on the cover of the Custom Cars one was a Merc with Gull-wing doors. I'll post a pick. Hang on...

 

I bet if you took a hammer to the rear quarters you could knock off all the bondo and fiberglass and bolt in the original tail lights.

 

Sorry,I was incorrect. No Gull-wing doors. But i'll post the books just cause I found them. I've had these since I was 9yrs old. I've been looking for the rest of the series.

 

I'm sure somebody has a pic of that red Merc with the chopped roof,tilt front,Lambo doors,tubbed,and blown motor,that was at Paso last year. I didn't take a pic of it because it was so.....wrong! Anybody remember it? Pic's?
