My Model A Build Pictures

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by INLAW MODEL A, Nov 24, 2007.

  1. So I Wanted To Build A Traditional Style Looking Hot Rod, But I Wanted To Use Readily Available Stuff From My Shop, And Run A Sbc/th350. The Rusted Out Shell Was In The Woods At My In-laws. They Were Driving The Car While They Dated In The Late 1950's. It Was Parked Around 1960. He Gave The Shell To My Kids And I To Hot Rod.
I Built The Frame From 2x3 Tubing, Bought A Speedway Front End, Used A Ford Explorer Rear 8.8, And A Used Chevy 350/th350. I Bought New Stuff When Safety Was An Issue, Otherwise I Am Trying To Save As Much Money As Possible By Going Used. The Car Is Not Yet Running Or Driving, But I Couldn't Resist Posting Some Pic's. The Last One Is From Last Night.
I Wish I Could Just Work On It Full Time, But All I Get Is A Few Hours Per Week. My Damn Job Gets In The Way All The Time!:d

Nice, a car with family history and already available parts at hand. What is not to love? Good luck, I am really enjoying all these recent A builds.

Looks good, looks like we are in about the same spot in our builds

  9. HI, I JUST MEASURED IT AND THE BOTTOM OF THE COWL IS 13.5" FROM THE FLOOR. THANKS FOR ASKING!

  10. Just make sure you lean the grille shell forward. They don't look good laid back like that. Otherwise it's nice. Dean

Grille down a bit more also - hood lines run downhill.

I second the comment about the grille shell going forward. Otherwise it all looks great.

  15. Hi guys, Thanks for the comments. The grille shell is just balanced on the radiator. It would only stay put if I tipped it back a little. It is getting there slow but sure. I hope to get the floor done this comming week. I can't wait to hear those pipes!

Looks good as it sits, great job. I was getting tired of bagged sedans with a 9 inch chop, 7 inch section, channeled 5 inches, blah, blah, blah...

    Looks great!
I always liked a useable car that didn't have built in compromises in the name of coolness.
LOW is great to a point...but if it causes drivability issues it needs rethinking.
The "scrub" limit is as low as something ever needs to be...unless its a bagged or otherwise adjustable height Custom of course. ;)

Regardless....YOU have a very cool build going on!!!

very tasty! nice story to boot...

  23. I just found my interior today. I stumbled on this 1970's coke sign for cheap. So my plan is to make door panels out of it!

  24. I found this on ebay. It is a little cluttered, but I thought it was cool.

I'd trim it a little and use it on my garage wall!

Personally, i think those type door panels, floor boards...whatever, are right up there with spiderweb grilles and iron crosses.
The first few were really cool but the effect has been severely diluted...

    Thats a sweet ride...

  28. So what else should i consider for door and interior panels? The floor is old rust diamond plate. I don't want shiny aluminum. My buddy does race car interiors and I want something more traditional.

Oh and here is my car. Hopefully this is the last time the body has to come off. I need to run brake lines and modify the firewall while I have access. I also need to weld in the floor.

  29. Well, I made more progress today and I actually drove the car! Granted it was just around the driveway through the snow, but I did drive it! I still need to wire it and weld the roof on, add gl***, and some other minor details, but it is coming along good. Tommorrow I hope to make a movie driving it a little.

What are you using for a gas tank and where is it located?
Nice build, I hope I will be there one day.
