  2. Here's my 4 door 58 Pontiac starchief. I bought this AND another 58 Chieftan 4 door parts car for $800. Aside from always having to special order basic replacement parts (it still has the 370 in it...wasn't a very popular motor apparently ) I love this car. If I wanted to turn this into a 2 door it really wouldn't be that difficult. And these 58 pontiacs are rare as it is..So, all you haters keep on hatin! :)

here is what I don't understand and maybe someone can explain it to me. All these guys are talking about a four door is all that they could "afford", but last time I checked motors, trans, paint and upolstrey cost the same if not more for a two door or four door. So why get cheap in the purchase price in the car when you are going to dump the same money for the other stuff on it, all the rest of the shit on the car cost the same. Why not wait till you have enough money to buy a two door? It seems like the cycle is getting worse and worse as time goes on, a guy buys a car that he can "afford" not quite the model he wants with two extra doors, dumps money and time in it then realizes that the car sucks and he wants a two door instead of the crew cab he just dump 12k into and it still is not cool. Then he tries to unload it to some one who just doesn't get it. CHEAP CARS ARE OUT THERE STILL YOU DON'T HAVE TO SETTLE FOR THE CREW CAB BECAUSE IT WAS ALL YOU COULD AFFORD AT THE TIME!

  11. I just picked up a 1946 Chevy Fleetline two door for $2000. The deals are still out there if you're looking!

Here is my 66 chrysler 300, 4 dr hard top. I bought it very cheap $250.00. It still had the paperwork in the glove box from when it was bought new by a doctor in New Iberia, LA. It was worn out and I put the engine, trans. and rear axel from a toatled 69 dodge polara. I put the rims and wheel covers form a 69 chrysler on it since the others were missing. I have other 2 drs. and 4 drs.and a wagon but this is my favorite. I know it is not really HAMB material but I have been driving it since 2000. Alot of peoplle like it it, yes even girls.:D

Hate to burst your bubble but Fourdoors have always been around, always been made into hotrods, always been made into customs.
Just because the magazines and other media ignore them for the most part doesn't mean there aren't thousands of guys out there modifying and driving them right now.
In the 50s there were more fourdoors shown in magazines than in the years following. See the reader's rods/rides/cars and letters sections of most magazines.
People buy and build what they find even it is fourdoors. Heck in some other countries they didn't even have anything but fourdoors in most years!
The young folks now getting interested in OLD cars don't give a hoot if the car has 8 doors. What matters is that it is old, is cool, is rebuildable, is running, is here, is affordable, and will be fun.
The 2door prejudice will always be among us but in the long run all that matters is that old cars are bought, fixed, driven and enjoyed.

    Four door craze?
I think a lot has to do with the under 30 crowd that grew up with nothing but four doors. Shit, I wouldn't have been caught dead owning a four door in the day. Now, my son thinks anything from the fifties and older is cool. He just doesn't notice the extra doors the way us old farts do. He has a whole different perspective that I think is shared with the younger crowd. He certainly knows the difference. It just doesn't matter as much as it does to to me. So, when a young kid looks for a project, the affordable four door doesn't look so bad, does it?

  19. Here's my 60 Electra. Owned when 19, sold for 150. 13 years pass, found and repurchased from scrap dealer for 100. Built this for 5-6k. Cut roof off and airbagged. Interior covered with old concert shirts. Sold over 1k of extra parts off it, a.c., trim etc. Everyone loves it, especially when I dump the air. Went for a rough look, turned out somewhere in between. just bought another 4 door invicta complete minus dash clock for 400.

I tell ya what ....id rather see any old 4 door than these fucking riceburners that are runing wild everywhere....i mean shit....even if it is a cost thing compared to style thing...would you rather see a young kid getting into all these jap pieces of shit with rivit on body kits and 50 gallons of bondo and a sticker that says Team Herra Fast
instead of some thing that is truely american?.... and something they should be proud to build.....In my book tradition is an american thing...
and i build old cars because its what my dad handed down to me (2 door or 4 door) a new project excites me and him both and in the end of all this hard work it truely pays off.

It worrys me all this talk isnt promoting, for what some is a hobby but for me is a way of life, but is dicouraging alot of young guys from buying that 250 dollar four door thats probably a way better start, because he cant aford that 2500 dollar piece of shit 2 door.
so instead of him getting to experience the love for something truely american...and get a feel for this hotrod/custom thing of ours...he then decides he can buy that piece of shit honda on his 8 dollar an hour job and pay payments to start fixing that up....
please fellas get over yourselfs....some of us guys are poor men in a rich mans game obviously....and work with what we got.....
some are just getting started....if you think posers are the oly ones driving 4 doors than your just sabotaging this thing of ours and
    YOUR THE POSER.

I love my 38 plymouth four door, I got it really cheap, it has family history and it's in great shape with real low miles. I would prefer a two door coupe, but, it didn't work out that way. I'm having a ton of fun doing little things to make the car more fun to drive like, lowering it, dual exhaust with a split manifold, aluminum head, maybe some new radials. I think we have more fun with it being a four door. We used it in our wedding, we take friends and family out for dinner and on wine tours. My buddy decided he had to get something to cruise around in that was family friendly so he picked up a 48 chevy four door for dirt cheap. It's been lots of fun and very inexpensive. Neither of us would have old cars in good shape if we bought a two door.

The only cool 4 doors in my book are the Lincolns. Just my opinion

  28. Four doors never grabbed me much when I was a kid, because they sort of seemed like what "somebody's mom" drove. But now I have a new appreciation for a lot of the old 4 doors, and even some of the cars I used to think were kind of homely, look fantastic compared to the boring econoboxes and Prius's (Pious) and crap on the road today. I love to see some young people fixing up old 4 doors to preserve them for future generations. It sure beats sending them to the crusher!!!!!! A guy in my neighborhood bought a really nice '60 Mercury 4-door and I slow down to check it out every time I drive by it. It never was considered a popular car before, but it's lowered and looks really nice, and I didn't even notice it was a 4-door at first. I say forget those old stuck up snotty anti-four-door attitudes and let's save those old 4-doors from the crusher. Would you rather have young guys fixing up cars like these, or fixing up ten year old Nissans with plastic snap-on accessories? These old 4-doors are still in a young guy's price range, but they'll never buy them if they keep hearing arrogant "auto enthusiast" snobs cutting them down over and over.

Here's a couple of cars that look pretty good as 4 doors. Picture the Mercury sitting low with some Astro Supremes. If you roll the windows down on some of the hardtop 4-doors, they look really nice and you almost forget they're a 4 door. If they keep crushing them, they'll all be gone, and that would be a huge shame.

It can be bought for 2000.00. It's got the factory skirts, original engine with the air-cleaner that looks like the one on a Caddy, complete inside and out. I believe with a hot battery, clean gas and some new plugs, it will run. It's been settin outside for a while, but man, this thing is pretty cool!!
