I made another trip to Gambino Kustoms yesterday to lay out the panels for real. I got there at 10:00am and left at almost 4:00am this morning. We got it all laid out and taped off.

We had hoped to spray at least the top, but it gave us the finger at about 3:00am when we couldn't get a crease out of the lace. It was probably for the better considering we could hardly move from the cold.

So, once the lace is ironed Alex should be laying on the color in the next couple of days and hopefully add shots to this post so I can see them (hint, hint).

Then I got to sleep in the parking lot at work. It was a balmy 27 degrees. Luckily today is our work Xmas party, so it's kind of a half day.

Thanks Alex for putting in the extra effort!!!!

Back to the fresh canvas. Alex laid on more clear since my last visit. It was sanded and ready to go.

We made a guide to keep our line spacing consistent.

Finding the center of the roof. Of course we had to do the same thing for the hood and trunk.

We transfered the hood lines to the roof scallops.

2:42am. Just before we laid out the lace. We thought we were going to get some color on it, but the lace gave us the finger and we couldn't get it completely flat because of the crease from where it was folded and rolled.

Unfortunately this is where we had to stop. I really really wanted to see some color, but that's just the way it works sometimes.

    Awesome! Great layout.

Always neat to see a car all taped off like that. Kind of like "paint goes here"!

Ever notice how panel paint jobs started out good and got better and then took a big fat dump in the 70's? It has a lot to do with the layout. In the beginning, guys would follow the styling lines and major panels on the car (like you and Alex are doing), later, towards the downfall, folks would panel off EVERYTHING, cut lines, like door edges, and other unnecessary borders. That's not to say you couldn't mask off some looser free form design, but it should still flow. In the end, the later panel jobs only broke a car up, they were HIDEOUS!

Keep going, what's a little cold?!

If the crease won't iron completely out, hand wash it (just water) and lay it out flat and let it air dry. Before I did my wagon i had wet lace stretch over my kitchen floor with books laying all over it to keep it down. It seems goofy having to iron & wash lace, but whats a guy to do?
Layout looks good, I'm ready to see the panels though! Did you guys figure out how you were going to tackle the blue on blue?

  21. I don't know if anyone's said this already? BUT, it looks good with the tan tape and blue outlines on the white paint.

  27. Blue's my favorite color, and your prior images in that color look amazing. But, I couldn't help notice the tan/blue tape do give a certain "look". Toss a gallon of clear on the bitch and rock it. haha:rolleyes:
